I`ve saw different customers using the Sega Saturn and SLG3000 via an Upscaler (like my upscaler on arcadeforge.de). Have in mind that SLG3000 is designed to work with VGA.

Sorry I was asking about the sync strike not the slg3000 can it accept the PAL or NTSC cable and do I have to do the mod to the sega saturn

Right, so we’re talking:
NTSC Sega Saturn (without 9v SCART splice) -> UK SCART cable -> Sync Strike -> Upscaler -> SLG3000 -> HDTV

I’m curious to know this as well, as it would save some trouble.

exactly I’m confused I took apart my model 2 last night and the whole board is different from the model 1 pictured in the mod so I have no clue how to do it

Hey,
this is the chain I´ve tested out so far.
Saturn is already tested and reported as working

since some people got issues connecting their RGB SCART modded SNES consoles to my DIY scaler kit I`ve put some work into a solution.

Here`s the scaler chain in combination with the scanline generator SLG 3000

The used scaler PCB is the gbs8220.

First of all, thanks to Florian who sents me his whole SNES equipment for testing. I`ve put up the chain and got the well known “No Signal” error. Nevertheless I know that my stuff is working properly, so I was quite sure that there must something with the scaler. But after a little chat with Fudoh (thanks man!) he pointed out that the XRGB-3 has same issues with SNES. So I focused on the SNES RGB cable.

It turns out that SNES signal level are far to high from a RGB point of view. So I made a attentuation circuit and put it into the RGB Cable, where it should placed imho.

I`ve included here my sclaer settings. The scaler tend to quit work if the picture is not centred. So relax, take your time and configure your scaler properly for your LCD.

It gives just Scanlines to RGB SCART consoles without any need of additional scaler or sync stripper. It`s easy to install and to configure.

Installation:

  • Step 1 : Connect it inbetween Your RGB Scart Console and your LCD with Scart input.
  • Step 2 : Plug in Power Supply Unit

That’s all. Turn on and off the scanlines, adjust the scanlines level, just as you want.

Features:

  • Scart in
  • Scart out
  • PSU Jack
  • Scanlines on / off switch
  • Scanlines intensity adjustement via knob
  • LED on / off
  • 4 pcs Mounting holes M4

This project gives scanlines by only connecting it between your SCART RGB console and LCD . No need for additional scaler pcb or sync stripper circuit.

This is a new project. For the first two weeks ArcadeForge is offering a price of 29€, after that final price will 35€ (01.11.2011).

Quick question, what is the resolution to that game?

standard raster, 240lines, 15Khz

I heard you mentioned from Shmups the SLG was covered in Retro Gamer recently? I tried checking the stands and didn’t find it. Can you point out the page and issue number?

Hey, I have a question. My SLG3000 came with the knob missing from the potentiometer, could you give me a part number for it?

it`s this one

it was in the german retro magazine. In UK it was published in the GAMES tm. If you`re used to dutch, then check this out http://www.teamhww.nl/2011/10/review-slg3000-scanline-generator-kicking-it-old-school/

I’m in america, so I have to find out which country they import mine from.

Hi. I have slg3000 and works amazing in xbox360, and pc via emulator, and mame horizontal games. But on vertical mame games it creates some annoying artifacts. Like is not uniform, or there arre blurry “waves”. As i said is pc through nvidia-vga- 640x480 resolution.

Any idea?

Long story short The SLG is intended for and built for Horizontal Displays.
Vertical or Tate Displays with a Vertical game really needs something intended for the Vertical axis.
It’s why the more modern stuff that emulates the SLG effects on HDMI often have separate Vertical or Tate settings.

You can try to adjust between Thin and Thick lines, and Even and Odd lines to see if there any difference. If nether looks good to you, you might of the wall for what the SLG does for you.

I don’t know enough about your setup to tell you anything else. You ether have to turn off the Scan lines or put up with the visual artifacts.

Thank you for the help. Finally was so easy to solve. It happens only in a few games. I just went into inside mame slider options and strech a little the image verticalli. Maybe is just to find a compatible size that fits. Now is ok

OH Shoot, I did not even think of that.
Yes if you don’t have the image scalled right you will get some image artifacts
Like in example with Emulation and old NES games, if you don’t have the Width set right, you see the image “crawl” as the pixles are misaligned, the NES didn’t have perfectly square pixels.

Its really amazing how natural and real look the games now. Very big difference.
Only one last thing to fix kega fusion with genesis games and epsex with playstation is show 16:9 aspect in my widescreen. I have try many options in settings but i cannot get the 4:3 aspect.
