SBO Results Thread

Like I said in the last thread…

Dashiooooooooo.

iyo is probably the best out there, i see his team taking home the cake.

I expected this. Just like 3S SBO. It’s just too much dedication in Japan. They put 20-40 hours a week at the arcades. If we ever going to compete with Japan, we need that type of dedication.

I also disagree with Sanford. The problem is Justin Wong is the only person who puts in the work to be at the level he is, in fact, I think Justin Wong is at a wall. No one in the states is challenging him or even putting in the work he does. Like Tomohiro said at EVO, if you want to be great you need to be fully dedicated to the game. Micheal Jordan didn’t play basketball as a side gig.

i play 20 hours a week and i suck balls  its not just time, its talent too.

Yeah I agree, despite of talent, you need practise. Maybe it will be good for Justin to stay in Jap for a while to train himself.

How is that impressive really? Justin has never been a threat to Japan.

need talent, practice(dedication) and great competition.

Justin has talent and dedication, but he almost never lose in US, when you don’t lose, you can’t improve that much.

American player’s tournament all results in Japan

7.3 TRF justin&marn lost their first match.
7.5 sega3on3 justin&marn lost their first match.
7.10 TRF marn lost his first match.
8.7 GodsGarden marn?ricky?other american lost first match
8.13 shiozawa cup USA team lost their first match.
8.14 SBO_09 justin&marn,Jonio&fubarduck,Alex&ComboFiend, All usa team lost their first match.

hahahahahahahahahaha

It’s not even about how much time you play, it’s about how you practice too. The titans like Mago and Daigo and Iyo are ALWAYS going at it at Big Box, EVERYDAY. There’s a reason Japan is called the hyperbolic time chamber.

So what if U.S players are playing 20 hours a week, they still aren’t practicing against the top players in the world. You keep on playing the 2nd tier, the best you’ll ever be is top of the 2nd tier.

I think its also a matter of money. Not only does it cost a non-trivial amount of money to play 20-40 hrs at the arcades on a weekly basis. You’re talking travel costs to get to the tournaments with the quality players. You’d need to hit up places on both coasts and many places in between just to get the necessary tournament experience to train yourself to perform under pressure. Flights/hotels/car rentals/food costs during trips is quite high here, especially if you’re traveling from non-major transportation hubs. These dwarf the cost to play the game at the arcades for 20-40 hrs a week.

Now consider Japan. Tokyo alone houses many arcades with lots of tournaments that attract top flight competition. Getting around in tokyo and the nearby areas is relatively cheap and fast especially since they have no travel lengths as far as going NY to CA. Nor do they have to worry about 3 hr timezone differences when traveling between coasts. Hell, look at the Nagoya tournaments, its only a 2.5hr train ride away from Tokyo. You could go, compete and be back home within a day. No hotels, no flights.

TLDR: Being able to compete on a national level in the US is cost prohibitive unless you are a) filthy rich, b) sponsored.

NY or CA has more people than Tokyo. if they want, they can have a place where all the top players can train everyday.

you should learn how to talk to each other and have baby’s to stop your country’s population from ceasing to exist. Maybe the tentacle porn is enough for you guys. Possibly the men in your country just have no balls, they certainly didn’t have the balls to lose to Arturo.

But the sad thing is, even if players do that, they still won’t be as good as Japan, because they aren’t PLAYING against Japan, who right now are clearly the top dogs at SFIV.

Take Mahvel for instance, we have the top players hands down, and no matter what Japan is never gonna catch up. Just look at the beatdowns they got at Evo. They played against each other a lot, but because they didn’t get a chance to practice against the top dogs like Yipes and Sanford, they got their ass handed to them come tourney time.

Another example is Heartnana just absolutely raping face at BB in Evo. Why? Cuz he got to play the top players in the world every weekend.

You are only as good as your competition!

Maybe yes, but the pan-Tokyo urban area alone holds 50m people… Still much lower traveling cost there

Good luck to the final four teams.

Any results for the final 4 yet?

In this TRF, that’s a french player (Camo) who beat Marn

good points. the MvC2 example too. i bet Heartnana can atleast win the first rounds. maybe in deeper with a lucky draw. here is the question, why are we so go a mvc2, but not other fighters. Those NY players got good at mvc2 playing against eachothers too.

Well, we don’t know how good at MvC2 jpn would be if they had taken it seriously long-term. If they had they might beast us just like they do in everything else. Probably would.

They’re still doing tekken so nothing yet
