You know, I try not to be a dick, but people just love to put me in that position.
Aren’t you the person who praised every console version of ST pre-EVO, and then shit all over them directly afterwards? When asked why the abysmally bad PS1 version of ST was used at EVO 2k5 (where supers don’t even come out), the reply was “NKI playtested it and said it was great. Of course he got 5th, so Chun is probably really good in that version!” Then fast forward to EVO 2k6, where you were onstage demoing CCC2 (no idea why you got that chance) and you said it was excellent. The game came out that fall, and was used at EVO, yet it took you until AFTER it was used at EVO to find it had input lag?
I said it in another thread and I’ll repeat since you obviously didn’t read: there is no console version of ST that is good. They all have their subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) differences from the arcade version. Even emulators like GGPO have certain issues, it’s inescapable. In fact, there are NO console ports of games that are exactly the same as the arcade - 3s, CvS2 and MvC2 all have noticeable differences. However, those communities have just collectively said “fuck it, we’re using one certain version and that’s it.” The problem is that every year, someone like YOU speaks up and says “hey, this new version is better than all the others and THAT is what we should be using!” And then everyone jumps on the bandwagon and EVO says shit, we have to use what the players want.
Let’s recap: EVO 2k4 was DC, EVO 2k5 was PS1, EVO 2k6 said fuck it and used AE, and then EVO 2k7 used PS2. Now it looks like STHD won’t be out in time, so EVO 2k8 is going to be DC (with dipswitches changed), and then at EVO 2k9 we can only assume it will be STHD. So that’s SIX DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF THE SAME GAME BACK TO BACK. Yeah, I’m sure it’s easy to practice and get used to a game that is completely different every time you go to a tournament for it.
When is someone going to speak up and call bullshit? My question is, why do we listen to NKI and other people year after year, instead of doing what makes plain sense? How about this one: I can GUARANTEE that after EVO this year, people will complain that the DC version of ST, dipswitches or not, has problems. What should have fucking been done years ago, was EVO putting their foot down and saying “Fuck you, we’re using this ONE version and not switching, it’s in the best interests of EVO and the community, and that’s that. You can now practice on this one version and know exactly what to expect from now on, without surprises, and we can keep using the same equipment instead of buying totally new versions of the game every year. If you don’t like it, don’t come, go fuck yourself, thanks.”
So in conclusion NKI, although I’m sure you think that your “research” is in the best interests of the community, it is not. Sure, you may have proved there is some input lag on CCC2, but now everyone who adopted that version for last year’s EVO needs to completely throw it out, get a DC with this dipswitch save, buy a new DC stick they can use (because all converters add input lag, which just brings back the problems from CCC2)…and then THROW IT ALL FUCKING OUT AFTER THIS EVO since they’ll be using STHD next year. Great idea! Thanks buddy! How about this: the next time you have a bright idea, keep it to yourself.
…so now to get this thread back on track, I again have to praise Jason Wilson for holding MWC every year and being a stickler about using arcade cabinets. The controls might be foreign to many (including me), but at least we’re playing the ACTUAL VERSION OF THE GAME THAT WE KNOW IS CORRECT. Someone needs to invent a cheaper version of a Jamma board so that we can hook up our ST boards to it, with any version of joystick we choose, and use THAT at EVO. But until that happens, at least I know where to go once a year to play real ST.
