I think most people would rather just see the best people on the same team. The possible advantages in ‘quantity’ depend a ton on bracketing, character selection, and things that are out of anyones control. With the quality team, there will be less wondering “could this have been done better” etc… 3 of the best players, the 3 best chars, how can you improve on that?
Actually, a lot of top players here say that a team of all top tiers is bound to not do well. For example, all American players expected “Team Royal Straight Flush” to win the 5th Co-op cup, and granted they didn’t have Daigo but MOV almost eliminated the whole team by himself. No one seemed to be surprised that the Straight Flush team didn’t do better.
Although SBO doesn’t have the same character problem, the concensus here seems to be that most teams would rather not have a Ken on the team if there is a Chun, and vice versa. Since everyone knows the matchups against the top 3 characters so well, I think a lot of teams are looking for at least one off-character specialist on their team.
Having said that, I also think that Justin/Ricky/Pyro would be USA’s best bet, but this is because they are the best three 3rd Strike players in the US without taking characters into consideration. To do well at SBO, they will simply have to outplay their opponents since everyone knows Chun/Ken/Yun matches by heart.
Either way, I am looking forward to see how the US qualifiers turn out, good luck to all planning on attending!

Andy: If you can can you talk to the SBO coordinator about the last chance qualifiers? To my understanding they all have hold a last chance qualifier every year before or on the day of SBO? I dunno but Im not interested in 3S but moreso NGBC and KOF. Thakns in advance!
I had my final meeting with the SBO staff and unfortunately I can’t say anything until the West Coast Location makes the public announcement.

I guess I have to address each of your statements separately.
#1. What has the Empire done? Our site is there for a reason. You have a estimate of how much money the Empire has put into the community both for individual players and events. Don’t give me you don’t know to my knowledge crap. There is a reason why the event that we were suppose to set for M4 called FEC2, is the second tournament. I guess you forgot when the first FEC was at. Typical! To show my “pointless” humility I am not going to say again for who and what. You have the site to go to and find out what we’ve done.
#2. Oh, I get it, because we took the responsibility to inform you that we had to cancel a tournament that would turn into a disaster if we continue to go on makes us the bad guy. Opps…let me put a damper burn on this community?s reality. Hmm…From what I know, MLG just got there new 2006 promotional endorsed campaign ready. Oh crap! Didn’t they work with EVO to have their largest turn out in terms of tournament entry combination? So how come they went forward and SRK is…lol, I’ll leave the rest for you to figure out. I guess the Empire should have followed suit, you know, keep the tournament going. Have all of you to come down and then when you guys win, give you the MLG bit and work it out for the next 1 year to pay you guys off. That would have been better than simply saying “We apologize for the inconvenience, however due to issues we will have to reschedule later in 2006.” You make a whole lot of sense.
#3. Fuck you Elitist Fighting game assholes. Don’t ask if I mean any of you. If the shoe fits then wear it. Oh so puzzle games and shit isn’t your cup of tea so you look down on it right? You guys deserve each other. You?re such a hypocrite; you work so hard to be that guy to rep the east in Super Turbo a old ass game. You beat Watson and then he tries to put you down and then you talk all this, “oh people don’t want to give credit and shit to who this and that” now here you are putting down players who play puzzle games. Fuck you punk bitch! That?s why your community has these problems. Fucking Smash Brothers eats this community “FREE”. #4. What other tournaments we host are for other communities. I guess you miss the part where I, the site and other members of the Empire say “The Greater Gaming Community” I understand. Its just about fighting games, and if not, fuck everyone right. I know. You know something funny; Saturday night Dec 17th we had a gamer Christmas party where we hosted some fighting games along with Mario Kart DS. We bought Pizza, cakes, chocolates sponsored from Neuhaus, Drinks sponsored from Vitamin Water, buffalo wings and other treats like chips and cookies. We shared it with all the communities that were at Anarchcade. VF, CTF, some Tekken, Capcom and some Nintendo guys. Why? Oh because we do for the “GREATER GAMING COMMUNITY”. We did the same at Neutral Grounds. I guess if we don’t pour hundreds of thousands into a tournament or give you cheap bastards anything free what we do is either forgotten or just ignored. Kiss my ass then.
#5. Ahhh…I see, what I look like determines if anyone takes me serious. I guess if I was a cool looking Asian, with hair like Advent Children and the combined skills of Ricky, Justin and Choi I’d be taken seriously. Oh I see, the prejudice shit your talking about. You completely missed my entire point. We’ve made several attempts throughout the last 3 years to try and do something for this community. For what we have done, I guess it is not enough for you guys. Fine, I can accept that. In fact the Empire has accepted that. Most of you want to forget, block out or just plain ignore what we do. A prime example is SBO 2005. I can’t understand how the hell does the Empire go to JP and put “TEAM EMPIRE ARCADIA” to rep USA and know one knew but the Empire, yet you guys talk about SBO in the same breathe as EVO. That simply means one thing…you guys do not regard the Empire. A little bit before that…actually when we got screwed from dropping 10k for evo and just decided to go to Canada instead that is when we just came to the conclusion, “Yo, we are just going to do what we do for this community recognized or not and make sure that we hold true to our goal in the other communities.” We are not trying to please you guys really. Its just do what we do and keep it moving. Do what you have to do to win your little 10 year old fighting game. No one cares…other than those in this community…and that is if they even care.

East Coast heads should be very respectful for his contribution and sacrifice because like myself he has taken a major hit for this community…however he is not the only one in the Empire to have taken a hit like that. You know we were just going to put up 15K for M4 coming out of the Empire’s pocket. HOWEVER…like a certain EC MAJOR, several other local and regional tournaments and promotional and endorsed regional and nationals throughout the United States and other nations that the Empire has hosted throughout the years that seems to go unnoticed… which brings you guys to ask the 64 million dollar question “What has the Empire done for the FGC?” On careful review we just decided that instead of us sponsoring it would be in the best interest of the company to just find a financial backer or just come up with a revenue model that would raise the money. Then when we did come up with a model to do that…oh shit…DSP you of all people was quoted on saying…“Wow only $125 for a 3 night 4 day room, now all I have to do is find someone to share the room with me so I can save more money” Cheap ass mo fo.
That is the major reason why this community doesn’t get very far. Its own patrons are “CHEAP!” SRK won’t tell you that, but I will. You guys spend so much money on … well so I don’t incriminate this site’s members… You know what you guys spend your money on “AT TOURNAMENTS”. Funny thing is, you have no problems spending 60 to 100 dollars on that, but to put up 20 for a tournament is a problem. That very same reason is why we just couldn’t do FEC2. That and the fact that the other party involved who has direct control over the convention…because you must remember; it is our event but not our venue. For that reason we could not “Guarantee” your money so it was better that we cancel now and work with stronger sponsors to set up something better for you later in 2006. OHHHH but what do we get in return? You guys shitting on us. Especially you. We should have just held the tournament gave you all checks that bounced or some MLG excuse and call it a day. Run with your money and use it to help other communities that would have appreciate what we do.
In the end, kiss my ass and love it. We are here to complete our mission, and no we don’t care what you think. This post goes out to all the Empire haters out there. Not the FGC as a whole. That is what I meant by “If the shoe fits wear it”
Now on to the reason why I even came to post on this board. Andy and the TGA crew, after holding a meeting at the Xmas gamer party that we had at Anarchcade we discussed some promotional ways that we could help out with the SBO event that will be held at TGA in RI. This is just an idea.
How about holding 3 regional Third Strike tournaments from now until the last week of Feb.
Locations: NJ, NYC and PHI.
*NJ - the break
*NYC - Anarchcade or CTF (allow a vote for this if interested)
*PHI - University Pinball
The tournaments serves two purposes, and the Empire will be more than happy to find the staff to host the events and any other elements that needs to be added to give the event a great experience. The two purposes that this serves is “ONE” give the players here on the east coast some serious practice. All the “srubs” that are hated need training so that they can get better and solves the problem on SRK guys hating on scrubs. The second purpose is it will revive the East Coast 3rd Strike players that Justin tried to wake up last month but failed in that attempt. Tell me what you think of the idea. It would obviously involve that we speak to Break, Anarchcade, Henry and U.P. administrators. However lets see if we can come to a decision on this matter before the end of the year so that we can set up early, while we have the time.
