Wow, if they do teams then I might be SOL. Damnit, but it’s all good. Theres always next time.
Yea, I thought it was jap sticks at SBO, so why switch it just for the qualifiers? Especially if whom ever wins will have to goto SBO and play on jap sticks anyway.
Just to calm folks down about the controls. I heard basically that SBO staff is taking completel control of evertyhing all the way down to even how americans qualify and what they play on. So i think its SBO staff making it a requirment that Americans have to qualify on a head to head jab cabinet.
Yes in every other SBO since the beggining they have switched out the controls and put american sticks on a jap cabinet. They are probably tired of us half ass’n our qualifiers and want it to be organized. Every year SBO turns into an all out forum war in america til the last day and even AFTER. Just shows so much disrespect towards their tournament the way we handle our spots. Kind of glad they are stepping in, get things done right for a change.

mad bitching in this thread.
Wow, people really can’t read in this thread. For those just jumping on, here are the nuggets of info you SHOULD have read before posting:
- There will be an East Coast SBO qualifier to be held at Tokyo Game Action arcade in Rhode Island during the first weekend of March. It will be on Japanese head-to-head cabinets.
- The tournament format has NOT been decided yet, because this year, it is the SBO staff in Japan that are trying to have more control over our qualifiers and designate the tournament style. Undoubtedly this is because for the past 2-3 years SRK staff have botched this by attempting to organize things on their own and causing massive confusion, controversy, and disagreement within the community.
- The tournament WILL be held on Japanese controls, NOT because Andy of TGA is designating that, but because SBO staff actually sat down and talked with him and TOLD HIM they wanted quals to be held on that kind of controls.
- Andy is NOT trying to get fame for his arcade, in fact he is putting his wedding plans in jeopardy by sacrificing his time and effort to get this SBO qualifier off the ground.
and last but not least…
- DSP has no chance of qualifying for SBO because he sucks at 3s and has nobody to play.
That’s all for now, folks! See you all at Clash in 3 weeks!
I think the sbo quals should be teams too because it prevents same char drama since SBO tourney allows one char per team.
Will Pyro/Ricky/Justin be getting their tickets in advance or after the tournament is over with?
Hey i’m down for that then, someone should have told me, i would have supported the team format then.
And of course noone is considering that the reason SBO is taking more control is because SBO tends to cause mass confusion and drama around their own tourney (possibly on purpose? to some people any advertising is good advertising I guess).
Not posting anything helpful on their site (wow, i can see the button config for third strike, clears a lot up for me), not replying to emails, not existing at all, yet somehow getting all these props cause they put together a team tourney with less players than ECC with 100x the budget, and are like 3 years later saying that they wanted a certain format and setup for their qualifiers.
In their defense i’m not saying they are assholes are anything for it, i’m sure they do what they can and are trying to help just like everyone else here. Just that to me i’m more impressed that people can pull off NEC, ECC and EVO every year than SBO, and I question why everyone is so quick to downplay those tournaments and build up a scene that ultimately won’t give a damn if our players all dropped off the face of the earth tommorow.
The best thing that can come of SBO is that we send the best team, and win it all. We will have banners all over srk and tga declaring victory and forever will be known as the year wc, ec, and a guy that moves around a lot came together and won the big one.
?Are you even coming to this?
You just crushed your chances at ever hooking up with a Japanese chick after this post…
…but seriously, I wish that Team USA could actually have a chance against these Japanese players. IF there were a guarantee we could actually kick ass over there, I would be in Japan, talking crazy shit, waving a fucking american flag the whole time! But we need to see some serious 3s skills before that will happen…
Ofcourse, it’s a major event in the area. I’ll come and compete and scrub shit up but I’m not expecting anything out of it. Just hoping I do better than every other time…
Heheh We can Dream can’t we?
J-Cole
Last time we had the “dream team” in 3s was last year at Evo for the 5 on 5, and we know all of the contraversy that was caused then.
No offense to you, but it coulda been done a lot better.
am i the only person left who thinks that random people can beat the japs…that’s sad.
