Saskatchewan Thread 2011

I’ve had nothing but stable people in my life so I know what a stable person looks like, and from my experience a unstable person will usually never admit to being unstable. I also fail to see how I dont understand emotion and I think the people in my life would disagree…well the objective people who aren’t hateful that is, its quite sad what you turned into.

Its true but whenever anyone tries to turn the tides it seems like people dont want it to improve. All I did was mention that V and I are going to start hosting…dont see what the issue is personally?

I havent read the whole thread and dont know any of you personally, so im not gonna judge anyone.

you’re nothing to me

Well its a non issue the way I see it, its about the games and thats all it should be about IMO. We shouldnt let the remarks of 2-4 users ruin a entire thread or speak for the community. Im trying to build something and just want to play the game.

I think this is pretty inaccurate, to be honest. I think one of the best ways to improve as a SF player is to play multiple characters. To say all his previous work in learning Viper is now “to waste” is just patently false.

it is one of the best ways to improve on your bad matchups as you begin to understand how other characters play and their strategies, but picking up alts when your barely competent with your main is quite foolish. I dont know the guy who mained viper before, thats just my opinion.

I personally find playing multiple characters takes away from the core strength of the main character though which results in a situation of"jack of all trades but master of none".When your only playing as a single character you learn how to deal with every situation that character has against the entire cast, and by avoiding the temptation in finding a"alternate"to deal with bad situations it improves your ability at your main’s bad matches.

In this situation, dustin had been using viper since he first started playing SF4. If he had stayed as her he would have eventually build enough experience over the last 2 years to "master"her and IMO become a stronger player as a result. Everyone has different strats to improve though and I always just liked the idea of using a single character untill I fully master them.

Playing the same character for that long would be so boring…

Ricardo, unless you can find some way to make up with your old crew, you’re never going to be part of a Saskatoon fighting game community. Starting a new community from scratch every other month isn’t gonna get you anywhere. Just swallow your pride and apologize. Buy them McDonalds or something…

In my opinion, I’m probably one of the better SSF4 players in Saskatoon. I finish near the top at our little tourneys, I even used to body you when SF4 first came out. I think if I had continued to play with you on a regular basis I would easily be at a similar skill level as you. However, you put yourself in a situation where I can’t really associate myself with you. And I 'aint even talking about Allison and them. It’s the hazing I’d get from all my other friends that know who you are. Do you know how difficult it is to justify hanging out with you!

Just be a nicer person and stop taking the game so seriously. We all know you’re good, stop rubbing it in our face. How would you like it if I got all up in your face about how much more educated I am than you? It’s ignorant…

It builds consistency though which I think in the long run will help out more in the long run.

There is general misconception over the amount of people I have a "beef"with. Like I said outside just 2-3 users on here no one else in the community has a problem with me. Even with these 2-3 users I dont really have anything against them, but if they attack me I defend…its quite simple really. The simple solution is to stop attacking so I dont have to defend.

For me It isnt about starting a new community but instead about just having a community to begin with. Like I said before we have the players, we have a communtiy fourm and this thread but its not a real "scene"or “community”. We have nothing to show for this so called community, and look I dont mind the TTF gatherings or what allie and dustin have done but me and V just want something different from our gatherings. I mentioned that what me and V are starting isnt about replacing or competing agaisnt the gatherings allie has but rather just a alternative for people who are competitive and want to improve.

Also I dont have to apologize to anyone on here because I didnt say or do anything that they didnt ask for…all I did was mention me and V had plans to host and they started with a shitstorm that was uncalled for and had nothing to do with anything. With that said I dont old any hosility or anger towards anyone here because im not a angry of hateful kind of guy. Its as simple as treating people the way you want to be treated so if you show me respect ill do the same but if you disrespect me ill defend myself. Hopefully now that people got it out of there systems and we can move forward and start acting like adults.

If we had continued to play I dont doubt we would be the same, but with the experience I have now it would take long time before that can happen which IMO is very unfortunate. I also never made myself elusive for anyone to meet up with and in fact I always offered everyone the chance for games whenever I could spare the time. I also cant help this hazing effect you speak of but what i will say (not just to you but everyone) is to look to your own experiences with me let those instances be what determines your opinion. In the end of the day you dont need to justify yourself to anyone because if your having fun and were having a great time thats all that matters.

What I do with my ex gf and her friends is a compelely unrelated to us chilling to play games, and any objective person will see how stupid it is to appy 1 situation to the other. I hope in the future you dont let the situation between me and allie affect any potential gatherings in the future, because my relationship with her has no say in how ill be with people in general and to be honest its nothing people should even be thinking about in the first place lol.

Id like that, it might make me wanna prove myself to try to get the better of you lol. Seriously though people need to stop taking the shit talk so seriously, its a competitive game and shit talk is apart of it. In the end of the day its all in good fun though and just to make the matches more exciting…this is something people should have figured out by now. Like honestly why would I shit talk someone then when I meet them in person crack jokes and enjoy my time with them…its because while were competitive and enemies in the context of the game the essential element of the whole game is to enjoy myself and have fun.

If people take it to heart or as some personal offense then thats a issue they have of taking the game to seriously. I take it serious in a competitive sense but not as something who defines me as a person…and if certain people do that then I cant really offer much help. When its all said and done though, I just wanna play the game and get better and have fun and if people wanna join they are more then welcomed to. That in the end is all me and V are doing with this community…its all very simple.

I understand if you just picked up the game and are trying to play 5 characters, it’s a bad idea. I guess I’m talking more along the lines of after you’ve gotten “good” with one character. Playing alternates can actually help you break through stagnation with your main much faster, IMO.

I kind of disagree with this… I find playing multiple characters allows you to see more easily what can counter various things. For example, if you’re a Ryu (or Fei ) player, you probably have a tendency to reversal more than people who play, say, Abel. I would imagine that Abel players are better blockers than Ryu players. Ryu mainers become better players when they play non-reversal-happy characters because it teaches them to block more… it teaches them to appraise situations more than just reversaling and hoping for the best. This is just one example, but it can be applied all the way down to the minutiae of specific normals in footsies.

In general, you just understand the game more. It can help you bring the best out of your main character because you might begin to recognize situations you didn’t even realize were there if you had only played your main.

Is this really true? Maybe the better solution is you trying not to be a person who is easily attacked? Or, perhaps, NOT vehemently defending yourself over and over again and instead apologizing/being nice to people who attack you? There’s a rift between you and the community, clearly, and I don’t think saying “I say the things I do because you come at me” is a good way to fix it. :\

I think it’s phrases like this that rub people the wrong way. Even if you think it’s true in your head (and even if the guy you were talking to knows it’s true), just seems like something that’s better left unsaid. shrug

To summarize the sask thread for the last 2 years:

Ricardo finally found a group of people to play fighting games with, and also made friends and found love in the process. (Wow, this is fun, I really like these guys!)

Following an altercation that made his crew of players no longer want to associate themselves with him, he began doing everything he could to save face.(Fuck those scrubs, I don’t need em, I’m Ric!)

Doing anything in his power to discredit their skills, make disrespectful personal remarks and justify his actions while doing so.(Fuck those pill poppin junkies, I’m the man bitch!)

Instead of pushing and motivating his local crew to get better and travel to other places that actually have a legit competitive tourney scene, he would rather sit there and complain about not having a scene or tournaments.(Our city is so lame, there’s no ranking system to show my Fei Long is number 1!)

After promising 400 tournaments and scene reboots with hidden players that did not exist, he continued to make more excuses as to why there was a lack of local scene. Rather than accept that people were straight bored with SSF4 and are now playing other games, he would make bold claims of being at a skill level they could never reach, and how he did not need those bozos. Even went as far as implying it would be a privilege for people to pay to get into a venue to play against a top player such as himself. (I can beat Mike Ross and I only play 2 hours a week, you guys are ass! I don’t need to play with you losers!)

In conclusion, Ricardo has now realized the errors in his ways. He misses the social aspect of playing fighting games with a group of friends and the competitive aspect of everyone trying to get better. Rather than just stfu and apologize, he will continue trying to find this new pool of unknown and non existing saskatoon hardcore fighting game players.(We’re starting a new scene, not to make friends, but for competition bitches!)

For just 1 dollar a day, you can help Ricardo make some friends to play games with. Just pm me your paypal email address. YOU can make a difference in his life.

Neither style is better than the other. Specialist or mastering multiple characters, it all depends on your preference.

Hey guys, go back to talking about eachothers moms. That shit was 5 stars.

Sometimes it can but usually when I start to fall into predictable patterns Ill take a week or 2 off from the game to refresh my approach.

In theory it sounds like a good idea but the key point to remember is that a good player will build there game around good habbits regardless of the character. Proper defense and offense come through the experiences of playing good opponents and its through this experience that you build consistency. I find that if you have multiple characters it can take away from consistency, or at least thats how it is in my situation.

In some situations it can, but it depends on the character your maining IMO. If its someone with good universal tools for every situation (like fei) the chances of learning anything from other characters isnt high.

The thing to keep in mind is that the same 2-3 people who attack me arent people who IMO are worth a damn in the context of the community or just as people in general. I dont have to apologize to people who consistency make a issue with me over trivial matters or who bring up personal shit to provoke a reaction from me.

These people do not represent the community and if anything have little interest in the community outside “how I react”. For the last few pages these 2-3 people talked shit about me to V and told him to avoid me, yet at no point in time did they offer to meet him or refer him to the community site…I had to do that.

stop trying to relate everything to me

as for that whole situation, that was incredibly minor and was resolved very quickly because i’m not a sociopath when it comes to ironing misunderstandings out

It didnt seem that quickly resolved but whatever you say James:coffee:

But…you are the chosen one Joz… you must bring balance to the force.

^ Thanks Genesis

I bet you rik wishes he was the chosen one. instead he’s just some grovelling pod-racer mechanic in debt to Jabba the Hutt on Tattooine

I AM the physical manifestation of the force, I am power itself!

The only thing you’re ‘chosen’ for is to lose at Marvel Jamie.
