I’ve been to 4 different communties and for the most part its somewhere public in either a bar,university room or some rented out space like a hall or gaming store. In all of the communites Ive been to, they all have weekly gatherings. The purpose of these gatherings varies from scene to scene, but most have some established league that keeps track of rankings and status.
As long as the post are constructive and productive I dont think anyone will mind who post. For myself personally, I dont mind talking to anyone as long as the conversation has some direction or purpose. Even with someone like Glow who hates me, as long as the coversation has some good ideas and suggestions then im all for it.

Im glad to hear someone else is putting time into this and like I mentioned before Ill help out in anyway I can. Like I mentioned before the only options im aware of outside players home is the hi tech game room and the cove. We could also do something at the education building which I personally think is the ideal venue untill we confirm something, At any rate its a work in progress and will take time…but im confident we will find something.
Anyhow if you happen to be free anytime this weekend you should give me a shout,maybe we can get some games in and combine our efforts.

Again, I see there’s lots of venom floating around… I just want to meet some people and play some Fighting games is all…So forgive my ever present ignorance.
Maybe this all just comes with the territory of high level competition or whatever, who knows, I’ve never been involved in any community like this before.
Anyways… Assuming my brain doesn’t implode from playing too much damn SSFIV in the last couple of days, it’d be nice to get involved and help you guys organize things here.

lol dont worry man, if any vemon is being thrown its all at me since im the hated one so its cool. Im in the same boat man, I just want to play some games and have a good time so were on a good path already.
Its no sweat man trust me, its a very calm and chill community so you will fit right in. We have a lot of people from different ranges of skill and experience so its no issue for newcomers. Were still growing so in a lot of ways the community is always going to be"new"for a lot of us untill we become more official.

If you’re wanting to get involved in the community, and not just play with ric while he belittles you, you’re going to want to avoid him. Anything you set up with him is just going to be a party of 2 since no one else in the ‘scene’ wants to be in the same room with him. Its unfortunate, but thats how it is. After reading whats going on here I feel like you’re falling victim to some sort of bait and switch. I highly suggest you read more of this thread and talk to more people about what this guy does/has done before hanging around with him.

At this point, I don’t think it’s really important to go back and get myself embroiled into whatever banana drama this whole thing has turned into. Maybe it’s the whole competitive mindset that causes this? I’ve no friends who enjoy playing these types of games and I’ve ran the CoD course and just can’t play them competitively anymore because, well… Frankly, CoD is the same old boring thing time after time. So I’m left playing SSFIV online, which, as I’m sure you are all aware, can be an infuriating process with some iffy netcode or bad connections.
I imagine there’s probably scores of more Sask gamers like me who would like be involved with a more personal fighting community but this, right here? It’s in shambles and to be quite frank it’s not very inviting. Ric may be the devil himself… I don’t know, but so far he’s the only one I’ve seen who made even the semblance of an effort to recruit some people into this dying community (AGAIN, I want to reiterate my greenhorn position, and how things appear from a completely outsider perspective) and what other option is there? Perhaps he’s made some transgressions in the past, but maybe he’s changed (as people are apt to do) and if, for no other reason, he’s the only one who seems to be making the attempt to get something formed to invite new people (although, again, I don’t know ANYONE in the existing scene, or how it’s currently operating).
I guess I liken it to playing SSFIV online. Sometimes you get trolls who think they are Gods gift to SF and taunt like they’re untouchable, and then are swiftly destroyed by the Legendary Jaguar, whose mighty Jaguar Tooth tears their souls asunder from their very bodies! And then you have the guys who utterly obliterate you, but remove their ego from the game, and take a few minutes to let you know how you could improve your game. If everyone could do that once and awhile, I think it would be a lot nicer experience than it currently is.
All in all, this seems like it’s being made out to be a lot harder than it really is.

I think you should take the advice of a poster with a handle like “trollthissrk” with a grain of salt. I’ve met Ric and he’s a good guy and I never had any issues with him. I suggest you meet him and play him yourself and go from there.
I think its pretty clear at this point in time that certain accounts on here are obvious troll accounts run by certain people. The fact that he and that other account dont have online tags, or are willing to meet up with me or ANYONE in the city in spite of claiming to live in Sask is a clear enough indication that these accounts are not be trusted and are false. Untill a mod becomes involved and bans these accounts I highly suggest to ignore them and not pay them any attention.
I propose to you and anyone else this simple concept, were in the process of trying to build a community and we need as much help as possible. If any remarks on this board are not to the benefit of this aim then these remarks are quite simply a waste of time. We need to focus on the community and ways to build it and to do that we need to be productive and positive. If certain accounts (regardless of being real or fake) decide to hinder that process then thats there own cross to bare, but it isnt something we need to waste time thinking over.
This is just my suggestion of course but I personally feel that we need to stay on topic when it comes to this community. In the end your opinion of everything will be based off the experiences you have and I hope you (and anyone else new) will come to your own conclusions based off this as opposed to word of mouth. Anyhow Im gonna go see thor now so Ill catch up with ya laterz!

lol at ric, still thinking that if someone doesn’t have an online handle, doesn’t wanna hang out with him, and says the truth, it’s gotta be me.
ric is constantly putting ideas out, like hi tech and the “education building”… whatever that means. but he never actually makes anything happen. it would probably be quite possible to walk into almost any chosen vanue, make a deal, and hold casuals there regularly. he just talks and doesn’t actually do anything.
oh wait, he recruits other people, has them do the work, and then calls it his.
anyways, whatever you do, new to the scene, there is a group of guys who like to play casually and semi competitively and are welcoming and friendly. if you choose to play with a single person only, rather that that group because you would rather be super ultra competitive and holier than thou, ric is your guy.
the saskatoon community doesn’t really hang out on srk, save for a few, because most of them just don’t care enough/aren’t competitive enough to want to be here.
when we have get togethers they are fun, relaxed, and drama free. i

i have one account only. there is a friendly mostly casual scene in saskatoon. you can play with ric or play with the scene or you can even do both, just not likely at the same time.
I’m entitled to think what I want over these troll accounts, and for the record anyone willing to make bold claims and retreat upon a challenge to defend them is someone you should never take seriously. Ad far as me never getting anything done, well like I said its all a one man effort and there is only so much a sinlge guy can do. Finding a venue takes time and money and itd quite unreasonable for a single player to should the full brunt of that responsibility. Every successful community is a group effort and as long as I’m the only one doing anything we won’t see immediate results.
Also I don’t want anyone to get the false impression that we have a scene, what we have is a player base and nothing more. We could potentially have a small scene but due to how this small player base is organized it essentially amounts to nothing. That’s the reason the majority of the players are inactive, there isn’t anyy incentive to become involved in something that doesn’t exist.
My intention since day 1 has been to help organize a legitimate community with a sense of motive and purpose. If Allison wants to continue with her hang outs then fine and I have no issue with that. Like I said base your opinion off your own experiences but if you do want to become a better player that can only happen with me.

Also I have no issues attending the gatherings Allison throws until a scene is formed. I’m not the one with the problem and drama and am all about having a good time.
Hey guys. I’m a player from Cape Breton Nova Scotia who just moved here for work about a month ago. I’m currently working 60 hrs a week so I don’t have much free time right now but we’re switching to 48hrs the week after next. I play SSFIV mainly and dabble in MvC3 but I haven’t had much time to practice it. I was wondering if there are any players in Regina who get together to play. I’m starting to get rusty from not playing so I figured this would be a good time to see what you guys have going out here.
