$25 each game/entry?
i.e. If I wanted to play SSF4 and MVC3 singles and doubles, would I be paying $100?
And whatever happened to that hall you guys were looking at?

I remember hearing that the entry fee was going to be $15.
Involve Hi-Tech and it nearly doubles! Sounds about right. Wasn’t this one of the main problems last time?
How can you have 3 games with both single and team tournaments and just say “The entry fee is 25$”
Is that $25 per game? Is it really going to cost me $75 (or would it be $100?) to play a few rounds of SSF4 and MvC3? Maybe that is $25 to play whatever I want? Then there will be no prize pool and I’m only going to get $6 for 1st in MK9. Doesn’t seem very reasonable either way. Hopefully I’m thinking too hard and it is something really obvious and wonderful.
edit: Aw, Chao, you beat me to it
Not going. $25 is nothing less than tyrannical.
This isn’t the same tournament that me and Jayson are hosting which is with the 15$ entry fee and at the hall. This is one that me and charles are doing which I announced a few weeks ago. Anyhow sorry I might not have explain things that well so I be more clear this time:
The 25$ covers the entire cost, which means all 3 games so you only pay once for the whole tournament.
The prize money is cash which is divided between 1st,2nd and 3rd.
We might drop the doubles tournament in order to make the pot bigger for the singles. The money divided between singles and doubles and 1st.2nd and 3rd would make the prize amount too small unless people pay a seperate entry for doubles. Therefore I think we will just stick to singles compeition for a bigger pot.
Well if it’s at 5pm on a friday it’s kind of difficult for out of towners to show up due to shit like I don’t know, jobs.
Also, I’m not sure how it takes you until exactly a week before this tournament is scheduled to actually announce the venue, and then inform us it’s $25 to enter.
Sounds like Ric is scared we’re gonna come snatch up all the money and his bish.
Its the good friday weekend so the friday is off, also we had called before but had to wait till Bob got back to us. I would have announced sooner but had to wait till Bob gave us the green light.
So let me do the math here …
At a minimum, there will need to be at least 10 people, so the pot, assuming that Hi-Tech doesn’t take a cut of the entry fees, will be $250. Now, split this up for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for MK, MVC, and SF, and just for simplicity, I will assume each placement gets an equal cut. $250/9 = $27.78 for each placement. Seems pretty pitiful.
Now granted you get the 25 people max, total pot size would be $625. $625/9 = $69.44 for each placement. Works out a little better, I suppose.
Needless to say, these numbers are horrible as they are, and if doubles were included, 1st place would lose money just from entering. Also, Hi-Tech probably isn’t doing this for free, so in the event that only 10 people show up, that pitiful $27.78 is going to be even more pitiful. If 25 people show up, the $69.44 is going to shrink to something pitiful.
And my final gripe: Why would my $25 entrance fee go towards the pot of MK9, a game which I have had no interest in. Just by going by this thread, the only person who seems to have a real interest in playing this game here in Saskatoon is Ric. I’m sure there may be others such as your friends from Calgary, but I would much rather see my money invested in the pots of the games I was playing.
The main reason I threw in MK9 was to attract players since I wasn’t sure if we would be able to get 25 players. In the event we dont attract more then 10 people, we would need to add in a additional game to get more attention…remember this event will be cancelled if its only 10 players. However I want community feedback on this and so Im going to offer another idea and I want to know what you guys think?
We could drop MK9 and simply run single competition for SF4 and MVC3 which would mean each placement gets over 100$ or we could just forget about MVC3 and make this soley a SF4 event with a huge pot for each placement. Between these 2 ideas what do you guys prefer?
If we go with SF4 having a huge pot for each placement, we could still easily run a side tournament for MVC3…just that there wouldnt be any prizes unless people want to dish out money for it.
Wow, sounds like there was a lot of thought put into this tournament…
Shouldn’t everything be finalized one week before the tournament?..
I dont see anyone else going out of there way for a tournament, and like I mentioned before this venue isnt owned by either me or charles but the hi-tech staff so were on there schedule. We can only call so many times and meet them in person so many times, but in the end they are the ones who have to call us back and let us know what they were willing to do and when we can do this.
Futhermore everything is finalized, I just need to know who from the community plans to show up. The plan was always just for SF4 and MVC3 but I decided to throw in MK9 in the event not enough people from the community showed and we needed to get more exposure…cause otherwise having only 10 people show up would be a waste of our time. In conclusion me or charles cannot control the tournament being announced so late because we were waiting on the call back from hi-tech, but the information is out now and the players know whats going on.
As much as I would like a huge pot, I have been essentially beenplaying MvC3 strictly, so if that game is dropped, then this tournament would be a no go for sure. Also, if you insist on just playing SF4, no way in hell I’ll be paying $25 just for street fighter.
Now here’s how I see it.
Yes, I know you’re investing you’re own time into planning this tournament, but if you really wanted the community’s input, you should’ve asked earlier during the “planning” phase instead of 1 week prior to the tournament when everything is “finalized.”
P.S. What the hell happened to the tournament you and Jayson were planning then? Where’s Jayson?
Ya didnt he have a venue and everything planned? this high teck came completly outta left feild. Also if you were only gonna have 1 game for a big pot, wouldnt mvc3 be the best choice? From what i can tell most of the local group is laying MVC3 over SF.
The last tournament we had (was awsome) i think nobody was really playing ssf4 at all. I like having both but am just saying if you are only gonna have 1 game, ssf4 wouldnt really work.
im here man.i have a venue and all is good on my part but rick and his buddy wanted to do this tourny first.i have nothing to do with the hi tech tourny just to let you know.im still gonna go with my ideas of the tourny but it will be delayed for the time being.im sorry i just didnt want to rush it.
My facebook and msn are now hacked NO BULLSHIT! anyone who wishes to speak to me can do it through here or my cell phone.if i find out who it is i will break their fucking heads open no joke!!
I dont control that.
What?..its 25$ for the whole tournament not 25$ for every single game lol.
:wtf:
I dont think your thinking hard enough, but how you came to this conclusion is beyond me.
Im not the procrastinating type, I called a week after marvel madness and got told I would be called back. I followed up but the staff at hi tech are a busy bunch and I cant help when they decide to green light me.
I dont get it?
Again…I dont get it?
Chao: I wasn’t sure if the tournament would even happen, I literally found out a few days ago that they were playing around with the idea and just got confirmation yesterday that it was a go. I didnt want to promise anything and considering how hi-tech has flaked before on me, I didnt think it was worth advertising a tournament from them that had a good chance of falling through again.
Josh: I dont mind including MVC3 for a few guys here but I would never base a tournament around it.
Jayson: Yeah man this is just a test to see how things will go with our big tournament, hopefully you can make it out.
This isnt a complicated issue guys, were trying to make this work for people so all I need is a simple yes or no if you plan to attend that way we can know what to expect.
Hey everyone in Saskatoon (and surrounding land).
I have been the one (Ric’s bud) trying to quickly put something of a small tourney together for the long weekend. I know it is a rush, and I as I do not live in Saskatoon (and work on the road) it has been difficult.
To quickly go over the plan:
I have been in contact with a few places in Saskatoon to host. Now as I do not know what players would be willing to bring setup’s, my choices where limited. I know Bob from back in the day at Hi-Tech, and of the 8th St. locations games room. He is willing to Give us night there (approx. 7-8hrs), for $300.00 which I plan on covering up front.
Now I was hoping to have around 10+ minimum people who would like to compete in the Tourney. I was aiming for $25 a head for entry, which covers every game played, and type (Singles/Teams). I would like to do MvC3 and SSF4. I read over the previous post, and I ok with the $10 a game, and $5 for the venue. Whatever works for ppl, I just want to play some games (that’s what it is really about).
Now for the prizes, I hoping to put up a min. $100 Cash per game, but it really comes down to the number of ppl enter. Would prefer if the pot was sizably bigger, but who knows. Standard splitting of the pot per game would apply (70/20/10, 1st/2nd/3rd) now matter what the amount, but I will do everything I can to make sure the minimum is met (even if it comes out of my pocket).
If this doesn’t work for ppl, that’s cool. It happens; cost, short notice, all that crap adds up. Even if we can put something together in some house, garage, tool shed, bar, anything, etc. Bring are own setups, and just get some games in. Feel free to follow up with me, and all that jazz.
I need to touch base with Hi-Tech by 5pm today, for YES/NO on using their space. Like I said I do not care where we play, but would like the opportunity to get some solid game time in over the Easter long weekend.
Thanks for posting, I’m glad someone was able to actually be logical about this for once and not sound like Ric.
But it just seems like Ric is bein bitchmade and wants to cover up the fact that the game which will probably be getting the most entries (MVC3) is the one he is a total scrub at. Looks like he’s pullin some combined pot bs so he can try to get that money via ssf4 and maybe mk9. Sounds pretty fishy to me there Ricky.
And yes I can understand that you guys just wanna throw a small tourney for the long weekend and I can understand the short notice in that regard. However, if it’s just a small local tourney, then the entry fee should be no where near $25.
Ric, you’ve been to enough tournaments now to know what is stupid and what isn’t when planning one. It’s pretty clear through your little last minute dates/details/prize money lumping that you are basically trying to hustle some money from some locals and eliminate any threats that will prevent you from doing so. You damn sure wouldn’t want to focus the tourney on MVC3 cause then you couldn’t go around claiming yourself as “King of the Prairies” wilst tounging your own prostate.
Stop it, it’s disgusting.
Well that last post wasn’t too constructive no was it.
I quickly understanding that Ric may not have the best rep, but so what. That is besides the point. This a game, and it is suppose to be fun. Looks like no one is having any of that.
I understand it is a small local tourney as well. It appears a lot a replies where ppl are hung up is the cost. $25, may seem like a lot. As mentioned before, let’s do $5 for the venue, $10 a game, it works out to the same amount. Look at it how you want, I’m just trying to cove the cost of having a place to play some fighting games and have (hopefully) some fun.
I myself have been to many tourney’s across Canada, and I know a poorly planned one, which indeed this is. But why can’t the ppl who want to play, PLAY, and leave at that. If we have 10 ppl, we are good to go. Venue is covered. I’ll throw some cash in for winners pot’s, and let’s game. If not, well at least someone tried.
Ric had nothing to really do with planning this small event other posting on Sask Thread, and directing me to it. He is just one of the few Saskatoon players that are consistently in my neck of the woods, and I got thinking ‘Why not’. Throw a small tourney, meet some more good players in the Saskatoon area, and try to give to the scene.
Once again, I just want to see some YES’s or NO’s for who would be willing to come out next Friday, or Saturday night, pay a bit and game. I do not mind covering the venue as mentioned above, but I do not want to be sitting their gaming by myself. I scan the form again at the Hi-Tech confirmation deadline to see if it is worth dropping my coin on.
