Sanwa JLF shorter throw add-on

How did the Home Depot tubing work out?

Bought some of that home depot tubing the other day and it works great. It takes a bit of elbow grease to get it on but it will fit. After i put it on i noticed that some of the switches weren’t activating. I re-did the post it mod from the ultimate mod on the switches and now all the buttons register. much better than heatshrink imo

now how do you make the engage (part A) shorter?

Im down too. shoot me a pm or I’ll send you one later.

Been working on it off and on for the past few weeks. Trying to sand the thing by hand damn near drove me insane, so I grabbed a dremel and 2 different bits from a co worker. The dremel was MUCH more effective than trying to sand it by hand… maybe the polyethylene is just harder to cut into than whatever tubing MKL was using?

Once I got the internal diameter large enough to fit over the actuator, I tested it out. I use an octagon gate, and was consistently missing diagonals. It appears the outer diameter (12.7mm) of the 1/2" tubing is too great to hit corners on the octagon. I did not test with a square gate. I sanded down the external diameter some more with a grindstone bit on the dremel, and tested it out for the 2nd time. I could hit the corners sometimes- it just needs a bit more sanding of the external diameter to make it work. Once I get it consistently hitting I’ll report back.

There are numerous custom tubing shops online, and I’m wondering if PVC or some other material would work even better. The polyethylene is fairly hard, and feels pretty close to the original actuator, but I bet it could be improved upon further. It has a bit of flex to it, especially when you have it sanded down so thin.

For what its worth, it feels good and the throw feels right around the same distance as my LS-56! :lovin: Almost there…

can someone help me understand distance b? how does that affect anything when it has no contact with the microswitches? or anything pretty much

It touches the Restrictor Gate.

On the JLF, the Throw is determined by the Restictor Gate.
Throw is the distance the movement goes until stop.
If make the B thicker, the Throw is smaller.

Godfather have you had any success with that method and an octo gate? I did the tape mod on mine and I kept missing diagonal inputs.

Where to find these in the usa…

thanks that really helped me understand. so simple. LOL and if anyones interested i discovered a sharpie cap thats been cut fits there perfectly.

I have a JLF with an octogate, like the previous poster, I used a sharpie cap to fit and decrease the throw. That caused me to miss diagonals, so I took the tops covers off of my micro switches and folded small pieces of paper in between the red button part and the actual metal switch internally. The only other mod to it is a stretched jlf spring, and it is very tight, with a short throw and very responsive. It never misses diagonals and has a firm feeling when riding the gate (unlike tape)
