anyone up for some 3s at nickel or vista boomers tonight?
alright guys i know the sd 3s scene is kind of dead, but i was playing down at the boomers in vista today and there were actually some players down there, and i brought up the suggestion of weekly or bi-weekly tournaments for like 2 or 3 bucks and most of them said they would be down. okay now i’m pretty sure most of the people that check these forums live in the downtown sd/mira mesa area, but would any of you guys be down for this? i know it’s a little bit of a drive, but the 3s machine is pretty decent now and the game is only 50 cents with 25 cent continues, but there is a possibility the machine can be put on free play for tournaments. i’m thinking these would happen on a wednesday or thursday around 6 or 7pm whatever is best. if your interested post up, just say what day and what time works best for you and we can go from there. lets try and have a 3s scene worth talking about.

Abom - The only thing I would recommend if you plan to aim for a huge turn out is to give a huge advance notice. The longer ahead of time the better that way for people with work or school they can try to plan a way to show up. I usually get tied down to a lot of random stuff at work but if you give me two or three week notice it usually makes things a lot easier for me to plan around. Just a suggestion.
while this is true with big monthly or even regional tournaments, I would suggest make the tournies like every friday, or every other friday and people will start showing. That way people will know not to have plans until 10 or 11 pm on the designated friday.

i just moved to SD a few months ago and ive been looking for some people to play 3S. my friend recently told me about nickel city so im gonna start playing out there more often.
so when do people usually show up at nickel city? i’ll go if there’s competition.
Comp at nickel has been shit for about 4 years now. The last game I remember being big there was MvC2. But then again, I haven’t frequented that place in years.
Nickel ? i’ll cruise by but if the cab is wack as fuck then gonna wait till the 3s cab from plaza gets relocated and hit that spot up. I’m down for 3s at nickel, plaza, mudd, and kaillera…
ok i have 3s and dont play it,so im thinking about taking that game up can some one tell what the most basic and effective character to use.
i would say ken
Ken is the most vanilla and effective, but do you really wanna join the horde of Ken players? Just avoid the bottem tier and you will be fine. If you don’t know the tiers or don’t wanna look them up, just avoid Sean, Hugo, Twelve, Q, Remy, and Necro. Everyone is perfectly playable and able to win. If you wanna get specific and go for top characters, yun, chun, ken, dudley, makoto.
Personally I think playing top 3 or maybe even top 5 is for pussies. If you are new to the game and wanna do well while not whoring the top tier, you have a good selection of like 10 characters right in the middle. Suggested characters are Ryu, Akuma, Elena, Oro, Alex, Urien, Ibuki, Yun, and others I might be forgetting.
If you mean Basic as in an easy way to win, go with Chun. But if your speaking as basic as in easy to learn I would go with Ryu or Ken, but Ryu going first IMO. By most effective you would just have to choose the top tier characters: Yun, Chun, Ken. But I think all of the characters are effective just some more than others.
