San Diego Saltmines (Weekly Tournaments & Casuals)

I talked things over with my roommate after seeing this thread, and we decided we want to try to come whenever we can to help support you guys. Between us we have 2 PS3s, 3 fightsticks, 1 ASUS monitor, and I think 2 disc copies of UMVC3, and 1 copy of AE. Both PS3s also have Skullgirls, and I have BlazBlue CSE, SFxT, and KOFXIII I can bring if people want to play those.

Right on bro! I look forward to meeting you, and thanks for being so generous in bringing your equipment.

Keep spreading the word everyone!

PLEASE READ THE TOURNAMENT STRUCTURE IN THE FIRST POST!!! -Updated 8/6/12

Very different than what you might be used to!

Big announcement about the grand opening coming soon!

You should hold a pre tourney to determine Tiers maybe anytime you hold casuals you can work a system where people can play in a tournament style comp to move up in tier (not down as people do have bad nights). This way new people can get a sense of progression and it gives people something to work toward in this particular community.

Just a thought.

im telling you if you throw a tourney the same day as a ttf tourney
you might not get a lot of people
i mean a lot of the good mvc players live in southeast
if you want like dios, crisco, and others we can all mob deep up there
but i understand your locked on your day
and i wish you luck

Actually you broke into my mind already, once you reach a certain level, you cannot go back down (forces people to improve + prevents sandbagging)

and I was considering the pre tourney, but that would take too much time, so the first tournament will be the “pre-tourney” just the awards will be based on your performance as a whole. I appreciate your progressive thoughts and contributions though, I look forward to meeting you!

actually sir that was the other announcement I had to make, I actually just haven’t been able to confirm it with the venue yet so I didn’t want to update the first post.

my crew and I have labored and rearranged everything so we can move the events to wednesdays. upon confirmation with the venue (if they cant change the date i think we will have to run a tuesday event for the time being), we will be running wednesdays as our day. if that poses a problem for a majority of non-ttf players, please message me and let me know, as the goal is to bring more people into the fold, not create another event for the existing players.

if this all works out, i look forward to meeting all the ttf crew, and hopefully a whole host of new players.

once again, thanks for all your input, everything you say is seriously taken under consideration by all of us here at SDFGC.

nice

Im not feeling the tournament tier system structure.

Id go if it was just traditional tournament rules with 70/20/10 split down the board.

You think the stream station can be on an ASUS monitor and just have the 37" TV be a viewer screen. Lag be a problem with setting up just a PVR to a TV.

With due respect, this structure is not made to favor you, so I can understand your distaste for it. The idea is to give beginners and intermediate players something to fight for. Where’s the motivation in entering a weekly tournament when we all know Dios-X is just going to win it. The idea is not to create a bigger pool for the best 3 players of San Diego, but rather to encourage and create interest in the lower and intermediate tiers. With time, they will become the fighting scene that San Diego deserves. I hope you can understand that and support it all the same.

Yea I can set up the monitor to be the stream station, we can figure it out, I have component splitter for one side to the tv/monitor then the other side to the PVR.

the stream machine may need to be an xbox for now, since it takes more to stream high quality ps3 feed.

Ill be able to make it to this quite often if this picks up off the ground. What venues have you been able to look at besides your pad?

keep it tuesdays! i work wednesdays…

Thanks for the input, it looks like a majority of new MM players can’t make Wednesdays. Can you guys make Mondays? First day will more than likely be a Tuesday, as the venue has still not responded to my request for a time slot change.

We actually have secured (unofficially) a venue. I prefer not to have it at my house, kind of detracts from the whole feel, and puts a lot of stress on my roommates. I will announce it here/facebook/twitter once I have 100% confirmed it and papers are signed. Stay tuned, and thanks again for your input and support!

if you guys have a garage, we could set up in there if no one minds. it’s really awesome of you to be hosting anyway!

Unfortunately, being a automotive fanatic, my garage is my sanctuary, and full of cars, parts, solvents, and lots of things that make it not a pleasant place to be for hours.

No fear! Venue will be announced before the weekend, waiting for some paperwork to clear tomorrow. Keep the feed back coming guys! Let us know how we can better serve you.

Hello everybody, I’m moving back to SoCal, from Tennessee, at the end of the month(Aug 31st) and I have a place arranged for me in orange county. But I am really looking to room with a gamer since I have been living with one for the past 3 years. I am a 23 year old college student and I plan on enrolling in a school out there once I’m settled. I already have a job lined up for me and I am financially stable. All I need now is a roommate. I can afford about 600$ a month right now. If you have any questions please email me at danno2nd@yahoo.com

Bump!

VENUE HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED! Sorry for the change guys, originally the venue was supposed to be the Holiday Inn right off Mira Mesa Boulevard, but their property manager tried to rip me off today when I went in to seal the deal with sudden contract changes (change of size of room, raising of prices), so I went with our backup venue in Kearny Mesa. Parking is a bit tight, but the owners are really nice people and they cut us a deal. PLEASE READ the first paragraph of the first post for more details, and SPREAD THE WORD.

WE ARE STARTING ON THIS COMING MONDAY THE 13TH. Because of the new venue, I am able to move it to Mondays. Hope to see you all there! Do not hesitate to message me with questions.

Great. I’m very happy to see you so committed. This could be a very good thing to happen for those around Kearny/Mira Mesa. I will be there Monday to show my support and I hope other will do the same. I can bring an asus monitor, xbox with ae and marvel.
