I don’t know how many of those people actually play for more than a few months.
No because the games could end up becoming shit.
A game could become shit for ANY number of reasons. It sure as fuck wouldn’t solely be because of “Waifus”.
The roster is very important and something that can’t be easily corrected. A game with bad gameplay, balance or graphics can improve in the next installment. If you introduce stupid waifu characters like Iroha, the new fandom will keep on demanding them to be in the next games; it’s terrible.
The original fans are replaced by new, more “casual” fans, and the series becomes deformed and tarnished for years to come.
If a fandom gets so easily replaced it didn’t deserve to exist in the first place.
I completely disagree.
That’s some whack ass gatekeeping right there.
A series can’t continue to survive if new blood doesn’t keep coming in. If you want SamSho and its specific style of gameplay to continue to live on, then you’re going to have to keep drawing players to it.
Is there a true reason why characters like Iroha spoils the game? Or you just want your favorite character in?
If mizuki was at the top would we still be complaining about waifus?
Who am I kidding anyways. They’d give her a ponytail and trim away fabric to make it less janky to animate.
To be serious I don’t really care about mina or iroha being top of the list. I’m on the side of more characters is better.
Isn’t that usually the case?
“Wahh wahh, this other character is getting in and my favourite isn’t, wahh wahh, game is ruined, wahh wahh.”
it depends. the lure of SS traditionally was samurai action, not anime waifu action. i know i’d lose interest in the game if it’s just waifus but they’d still sell the game.
there’s a point where you sacrifice too much just for the sake of new blood. it becomes a different game and less of the core fans like it. a good example is SFV. you can’t change too much core aspects (in this case macho samurai/ninja characters for girly ecchi characters) or you end up making a different game that appeals to a totally different audience.
you can’t please everybody so they should just concentrate on what made SamSho great in the first place. a waifu here and there is ok but they shouldn’t go crazy with it just to attract more short term players.
This is a horrible example because SFV actually changes the series core gameplay, while from what we’ve seen, SamSho 7 doesn’t.
Which they 100% are. SamSho 7 is still focused on the three most important aspects of SamSho: Footsies FOOTSIES FOOTSIES
Adding a “waifu” here and there doesn’t hurt that at all. Heck, Mina actually helps emphasize that since it takes actual fundamentals to beat her, regardless of her tier placement.
If Samurai action was the core, then you might as well just be playing the Last Blade or SBX.
I’ll always complain about waifu bullshit. Those people inevitably behave like those people.
Waifu people are better than furries because they at least like humans. But sometimes its hard to tell if they arent equally as wack.
This is a lot of debate for a character that’s not even confirmed to be coming to the game.
I don’t have a problem with tits and ass in video games, my only Iroha complaint is that the ‘breaking the fourth wall just to offer up relentless streams of submissive pandering’ thing feels hugely out of place. Save that shit for games built around it.
Stupid titty idol dressed like a maid that doesn’t fit into the ‘medieval-like’ background of the game whatsoever.
Mina way too skimpy for its own good, and that “Amazon” aspect is just a stupid excuse, she comes with her own kawaii pet that looks more like it belongs to a Magical Princess anime or something.
SS was supposed to be based on either ancient Japanese culture or old samurai movies and novels, not your saturday morning anime. Many of the post-SSⅢ fit in the series (Yoshitora may be flashy but he’s still similar to guys like Jubei in style, and Rimururu I take her as an extension to Nakoruru), but some others like Kazuki and Sogetsu are pretty much bad anime stereotype.
I didn’t like how the game focused more on Indian mysticism/mythology in later games either.
As for Iroha and Mina (to a lesser extent) are not worthy of the game, not even to Last Blade II (which was a very consistent series BTW). At least Nakoruru, Cham Cham and Shiki are some savage ruthless SOBs.
Has anyone played the Xbox One port of SSVS? Are the ACA Neo Geo ports worth my time?
I already have it setup on Fightcade but sometimes I don’t want to play on my PC.
SS is more samurai than Last Blade. LB is more combo friendly and low damage. the tension of sword combat isn’t there like it is for SamSho.
a waifu here and there, no. but if there’s a lot more because they see that it sells more copies (DOA), then yeah. it won’t feel like SS anymore even if the core combat is there. that’s what i was getting at.
And that has nothing to do with “waifus”, or any other character design trends people like to criticize.
Pretty much this. Since the new game was announced, the discord has seen an influx of taste cancer having waifu people. If those types of people become a significant enough part of the fanbase, they’re going to be listened to by snk when it comes to future characters.
Full disclosure: I’m still a bit on the sour grapes that my main main, Amakusa, isn’t in the game (yet) even though my secondary (Yoshitora) is. But even if Amak were in, there are still much more deserving characters than Iroha imo. Rera would be a good one even.
My main source of bias in this is that one of the archetypes I like is pixie characters so the agility + lower health combo tends to come in a waifu envelope.
That said, it’s easy to choose a side between waifu players and waifu haters. Put a waifu or two and those fans buy the game, pick them, play them and don’t bother if there are other characters in the game. The OG zealots not only have to have every single character from their beloved past game (and then don’t actually play them) to be satisfied, but also they need to not be any other characters that hurt their sensibilities like waifus or guests or the game will be ruined forever and they’ll drop it.
If Mina and Iroha players happen to become a big portion of the playerbase, it’s further confirmation than the original SamSho followers weren’t many to begin with, so good riddance.
