Samurai Showdown 2 vs Samurai Showdown 4

Is the difference between B and S good and evil? I mean aside from the movesets.

No. check this page http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Arena/9305/ and go to the Facts section, and look under Samurai Spirits and Buddhist Terms. Slash is Shura in Japanese and Bust is Rasetsu. Basically Shura is someone fond of fighting Rasetsu is more demonic or sadistic I guess you can say. By the way, Asura is the same as Shura.

I think the reason they put these 14-hit combos in SS4 was to make it so it wasn’t as easy to charge up your Super bar like in SS3? So by doing the C+D into the chain you had to first be able to connect, instead of doing the easy way by holding ABC like in the older KOF games. Not to mention having a full or powered up bar would also enhance one of the characters special moves, which made a few of the moves pretty brutal, like Hanzo’s projectile and Sogetsu’s water pillar (slash) and his projectile (bust).:looney:

I guess to each their own. SS2 did have some of the best looking sprites in the series! SS2 had some pretty wicked and brutal combos as well. My only gripe with 2 was that they took out Tam Tam. Alright, they didn’t actually take him out, as he was in there as Cham’s monkey, but still…

So does anyone know if any of the designers who worked on any of the first 4 Shodowns did any work or help design V, SP, or TK? I was just curious.:wonder:

To me, SS4 kinda has a Killer Instinct feel:

-Combos
-Fatalities
-Combos with Fatality finish

Also, you can do some insane stuff during Rage Explosion and ABC move (but the insane combos happen if you’re low on life during that).

ss2 is the true OG

SamSho2 is my preference. It’s not so much that 4 is a bad game, but it’s focus on combos and longer life bars make it feel less like a samsho game to me.

I think the longer life bars were in 4 because of how insane the damage level was in 3, which in some cases just doing 2-3 power slashes and you’re dead 4 seconds into a round. Although this was actually pretty common once you got raged up in the first three Shodowns.

I’ve been playing ss4 a lot these days, it has become my favortie samsho. It’s simply so much faster and more demanding; it’s like the mvc2 of samsho. I also found that it is suprisingly balanced, and not as ‘broken’ as I previously thought. It’s broken in a good way. The only issue is infinites have to be banned, some are too easy and they really don’t add to the game like they do for mvc2 or other games.

I’ve been playing alot more SS4 as well. While the graphics aren’t as clean or polished as 2’s, the overall play mechanics do feel more balanced between the characters. Unlike SS2, where a few of the characters have more advantages over the others.

The one thing I do miss about SS3 is the amount of moves the characters had per persona.

As much as i love ss 4 is a bit of a joke it’s a good game to discover bullshit because it has SOOO much most characters had an infinent or good 90% Bust hoahmaru was just TOO funny, i agree with cygnus it does play alot faster than the others and i guess yeah you could call it the mvc of SS, as for 2 great game in fact it’s a timeless classic but it’s eclipsed by 5 special

all this ss4 talk makes me wanna dust it off and play it again i wonder how many infinents i can remember

Yeah, the infinites kinda suck, but the Korean community has had success just banning the infinites. After playing ss4, i cant go back to 5 sp. All the pokes/fireballs are just too slow. I still like Tenka for what it is, though…I like the new engine.

BTW if anyone wants to play ss4 on kaillera, hit me up on AIM.

The infinities, mainly the rechains, just take too long to kill someone and also, someone could just Rage Explode out of them. But you can only Rage Explode once.

@Vic Viper
They don’t talk just about the rage infs, there are a lot real ones and some kill very fast … I love Bust Galfords unarmed inf, muhaha and people think you get weaker with losing your weapon … But hell, Bust Galford owns anyway 80% of the Cast.^^ But so does Bust Amakusa, bah …:looney:

Anyway, SS2 is good in a classic way, but well SSVSP replaced it just fine. You got more options there, less slowdowns, less BS (yup SS2 had stupid stuff too), a bigger line up and it is maybe the best balanced game SNK ever made in terms of tourney worthy fighters. The speed in both games is kinda the same so SSVSP is the superior game. But Tenka is on the same level as Special, it is a bit more streetfighterish:sweat: and seems just all around solid.

Well SSIV is different, somehow it is so complex and fast …, well it is like MVC2 compared to all the other SS games. Because the system is so unique, even if pretty broken, the game has a huge following in some parts of the world. So it won’t die anyway soon.

for me …

SSVSP -> Tenka -> SS2 -> SSIV

Samsho 2 sucks…Samsho only gets better as it goes on. I can’t play samsho 1 or 2 they are too bad as fighters.

wtf?, ur nuts

ss2 is the true OG

ss2 and ss4 are both broken by capcom standards tho.

I am not against this nor am I for it but, I don’t agree with what you say however, they ARE entirely diffrent games

thank you

SS2 will always be my favorite, unbalanced or not, due to the art style and most importantly the CONTROL SCHEME. I loved the SF-style 6-attack gameplay and hate the SS3 and beyond systems.

SS2 for sure…Ukyo and Nicotine all day.

Nic does have a rather easy infinite in 2? Alright it’s stupid, but hearing someone call you cheap or say “Is all your going to F-ing do?” is kinda priceless.

So the Koreans still play SS4? I havn’t seen or found ANY match vids of them playing. And if you go on youtube, there’s quite a bit of Korean SSVSp tournament vids.

I’ll see if I can get my kaillera working! :wgrin:

Yeah, it was hook chain into standing AB cancel into hook chain, repeat I believe. I never abused it too much, maybe 2 loops then the reverse spell which REALLY pissed people off. I also love his smokers breath throw…PWUAHHHHHHH!

There are no (or close to no) videos of Koreans playing ss5sp on youtube. Maybe you are thinking of the Japanese or Chinese tourney video? There are a lot of Koreans playing on Poporu.

Here are a couple Korean ss4 matchs on youtube

Thanks for the vids. Just for vid watching, I’d MUCH rather watch SS4 vids. SS5 and Tenka are snore-fests
