Samurai Shodown Anthology

GGS to Aki, great Jap player.

Maybe my controller is dying but I have a new problem with Gaoh. Half the time I hit toward or away CD to grab, I get his (blockable command grab). I don’t know why this is just now happening. Then again, I was using him on a J player, so maybe lag figured into that? There were some significant roll back on display.

Still have another combo to perfect for Evil Ryu. I know B slash (at almost halfscreen distance) can be followed up with headbutt then Super or qcf+C. I’ve never pulled this off in actual match, most times the other guy is spamming Dodge, jumping, or blocks the slash and the headbutt.

such combos should work with Rasetsumaru

-closeB,dp+Slash,u+BC/qcf+C
-closeB,dp+C,u+BC/qcf+C/qcf+CD
-farB,dp+C,u+BC/qcf+C/qcf+CD
-closeAB,dp+C,u+BC/qcf+C/qcf+CD
-closeAB,dp+C,qcf+CD
-qcf+Slash,dp+Slash,u+BC/qcf+C
-qcf+Slash,jumpAB/u+BC/dp+C/qcf+CD/qcb+CD
-qcf+Slash,d+AB(with timing upward slash hits twice for double damage)
-qcf+Slash,closeAB,dp+C,u+BC/qcf+C/qcf+CD
-qcf+Slash,closeAB,dp+C,qcf+CD
-qcf+B,crossupdashAB
-qcf+AB,crossupdashB
-qcf+AB,crossupdash,dp+AB,u+BC

the list isnt complete, but should give a food for thought

What’s the best time to show up in GGPO? Because I’ve noticed there’s slightly more players between 10-2PM Eastern time. But last night there were about a handful of Jap players at midnight my time, and late afternoon is a joke.

I want to know this as well.

Most of people are on GGPO either in early morning or late afternoon for me (GMT+2); and during the day I only see asians there, and sometimes few europeans

anyone interested in teaching SS5sp to new people? Always wanted to learn a samsho game seriously and now that 5sp is on ggpo, it seems like a good time. I’ve played some japanese players on there, but the bar is so high against them I don’t even feel like I’m learning that much.

Select Haohmaru and spam qcf+A on long distance, AB on mid distance, and f+CD~slash on short distance. If qcf+A connects, follow with u+BC. If AB is blocked, guard cancel into dp+A for example.
Hold D button to meditate once you have energy in Rage gauge
When you have blue life, press BCD, then attack opponent with [Jump C,d+C,BC,BCD]

with this you should survive online

Don’t listen to Shroud, when he’s not using Suija I rape him free. First you should know the basics of the game: AB= Hard Slash, CD+ Toward/Away= Command Grab. When you’re raged out qcf+CD=Super. BC= Hop Attack. You can use U+BC or D+BC when you have knocked down an opponent for a follow up attack (like in Last Blade or a 3D fighter), but d+BC is quicker and safer but doesn’t do as much damage as U+BC. Another thing, get used to Dodging. There’s a lot of tricks you can use to mind fuck people such as jump at them and attack, then when you land Dodge away, down, or toward them and grab or do whatever.

The combos in this game are really, really simple. For the most part they’re Jump B, stand B, whatever (special move, super, etc). Very easy to pick up. The Ryu character is pretty easy to pick up, but just spamming AB isn’t wise. Don’t just throw it out there, do it when they’re left wide the fuck open.

Aside from Ryu/hahomaru, I’d recommend Yoshitora, he’s got some sweet combos and an answer to everything. Then there’s Galford who’s got some interesting setups. Ukyo is pretty good, but he takes a shit load of damage. If you know how to play as Goro Daimon from KOF, Gaira would be your best choice. You might want to check out Tam Tam. He doesn’t really have much in the way of combos, but his jumping slashes have REALLY good priority, he can play keep away very well, and he can get in your face and mind fuck you.

Cool

I think if he has downloadable guide, he knows this already; if not, its better to link him to guide instead

yeah, i’ve been reading that guide. Learning Shizumaru stuff. I always played him in SSIV when I was younger because of his giant bloody pinwheel. I know I can do stuff like close B into pinwheel or the shoryu. It looks like jump B should go into close B but I haven’t gotten them to connect yet. Other than that I haven’t been able to figure out much with him.

Japanese play on the weekends at night time where they live> so friday, saturday at 10 am are time is 10 pm thier time.

So I’m going to go out on a limb and assume that Samurai Shodown 5 Special, the good one, wasn’t included in the Wii version of Samurai Shodown Anthology. If there IS some way to access it, please tell me because I don’t have the slightest idea how!

SS V SP is a Neo Geo exclusive. It was never ported to any system. Definitely not in the anthology. Again, you can play it on GGPO, and this is the totally uncensored version.

This has always bugged me, so maybe someone can help out a bit. A particular strategy I’ve noticed is the enemy will jump in slash (any slash), I try to punish with a grab, and before the grab can connect they immediately jump again and do AB slash. They never use dodge, it’s almost always jump straight up and AB slash. It could just be online play and you’re allowed to do that, or it’s the random nature of the grabs in this game. What do you guys do in that situation? Do you go for an AA, or just block, or dash away?

Edit: Normally I would do an AA (like Genjuro’s SRK) when I notice that they like to spam that. But the priority can be weird, especially if you fight Yoshitora and his j qcf slash attack will beat your AA. But once I get into the habit of punishing that with an AA, they start baiting me and punish that. So it gets a little retarded.

There are two ways to jump, 1. regular jump 2. quick jump. Quick jump is just pressing up right when your feet touch the ground. Quick jump is good because 1. you cannot be grabed if you quick jump 2. it speeds up your characters movment when they jump.

If you know that they will jump again right away do a anti air right after thier jumping slash touches you. Quick jump is good but as far as dodging grab goes the best tool is back D. It just takes some time to master the timming.

WHat would i do? matters what character they are. IF it was hoahmaru for instance I would anticipate the jump. Then i would watch what he did and react. If you cant react fast enough then you have to guess ahead of time. If your genjuro you do DP+any slash, if your goah you do standing medium slash.

The trick part about anti airing in ss5sp is it all depends when your opponent slash’s in the air. If they jump and slash right away something like goah’s DP or genjuro’s would tie the hard slash. Which isnt good, so in these situations you have to use slash’s to anti air because of the speed and priority they have. The other way they can jump and attack is waiting till they are comming down on your body and slashing. In this situation all the normal anti air’s work the best Dp’s ,supers ectect.

If some one keeps jumping run under them, that works too. Goah and genjuro have great running hard slash anti air. So hoahmaru jumps right infront of you. You run under him and as soon as you cross his body hit AB. Running attacks track so you wont even have to turn around. Anyways if you confused which i wouldnt be surprized if you where i can show you everything i just told you next time we play.

some samsho on our stream tonight!

Monsters Arcade on Justin.tv

Are there archives of samsho matches last night? I watched the stream and only saw KoF

Finally snagged a new copy of this game on Ebay. Can’t wait to wash the nasty taste of SSS out of my mouth with some good ol’ Anthologies.

You should scroll to previous instances from there (the ones already saved), you can see SS6 matches

Nice SS6 matches. Too bad I didn’t see any V SP ones.
