I’d be loving the shit outta 6 if they did it like Darkstalkers Chronicles. Pick the char, pick what version, go to town with that character playing exactly like they came from the game style you picked.
Yeah, I feel you. I have VC on dreamcast, and I love it; what I find interesting is also how they also give the characters different properties even if they weren’t in the earlier titles, like lilth having an air dash when she’s in Vampire mode.
But I still like Tenka for what it is, right now working on making my Rera more beastly next time I hook up with Dark geese and Shiki.
@ Tech Romancer
Here’s a good example - lets take Mortal Kombat 1,2,3 and 4 and lets make a compilation game that allows you to select spirits of MK1,2,3,and 4, with 2 having more basica attacks, 3 having run and combos, and 4 having bonebreaking throws and weapon mode respectively
But lets say, at same time this MK compilation wont have separate button for block like other games did, blocking wont save from throws, you will be able to juggle from uppercuts, and no chipping damage will be present.
Now you present such compilation to someone new, he plays it and thinks that is how MK games are played, then he gets to play some UMK3 online and discovers that the essential basics are completely different, than compilation doesnt represents gameplay of other games faithfully, and that opponent blocks his throws and he should do runjabbing to get to him with fast chipping damage (usual situation in UMK3)
That doesnt means that compilation was bad, but gameplay-wise it should be counted as different game altogether, because it has different basics from other MK games
So NO stores will be carrying this game for ps2 (Play n trade, Walmart, Target, K-Mart, Gamestop and their many stores under different names)…wtf?
GREAT rundown. If I could rep you for such a fantastic example.
right, i never disagreed with that. My thing is that you seemed to have said the game was bad or should be excluded from the series because of that, and I don’t think it should be thought of that way. Like, I said before, I appreciate tenka for what it is.
Thanks, well I just happened to also be into MK before I discovered SS, and both franchises are kinda special to me, although I dont support the cash-cow approach to recent MK games
It’s very hard for a retail game like this to come up & about in stores. Online is the only 100% guarantee to obtain a copy on PS2. I’ve ordered my copy from Wal-Mart.com back on Tuesday & my copy still hasn’t arrived (It was by standard shipping). I should finally get it next week on Monday or Tuesday.
Enjoy the SINGLE most broken fighter ever then.
Also, there wouldn’t be much point in picking most anybody outside of SS3 or SS4.
The beauty of Tenka is that while there is imbalance, a lot of characters have a lot better options for a certain spirit.
Like Gen-An, his supers totally suck and specials are mostly worthless but his normals are REALLY good. Thus, SS1 helps raise him up quite a bit with autoguard AB slash and the really long SS1 sword gauge (also helps that Gen-An rages quite quickly).
If he was forced into a game having to play only with the SS6 spirit he’d be an absolute low-tier character.
i really hate that approach though. of course madden and other big name games and companies get basically free advertisement sitting on store shelves, but when it comes to smaller studios they don’t stand a chance. that’s one of the main reasons i haven’t shopped at a gamestop for over 2 years now. they don’t want to take a chance on the little guy unless it’s reserved which is total bullshit and anti productive. fuck gamestop
Well said. I also like how when I use rera with ten spirit, I can capitalize on her speed and pressure game to go with the innate combo of that spirit (don’t forget her bnb). Also, ten spirit gives her a small defense boost, which is great because she does not take damage very well. Tons of other things - you can mish and mash the spirits with the qualities of your characters to suit your playstyle. The game allows you lots of leeway to make it your own.
Yes, I agree that each character benefits from some spirits more than from other (Especially Wan-Fu from Ikari/SS1 Spirit) and that does help low tiers
If I get the Wii version, Can I play it with the Gamecube Controller??
I had been trying to wait it out at Gamestop to buy the PS2 version (mainly because I have a gift card) but I went in today to check a store and the guy could only find a product number for the used version. He then speculated that they may not be selling it new (like Madden 09 he said???). So who the hell knows… Amazon here I come!
One Gamestop employee told me “Yeah, it looks like we aren’t gonna carry this game new.” NOBODY is. WTF’s going on here?! All the other stores don’t have it and aren’t gonna get it. Really: what the hell is going on here? Is there some ban on new ps2 products due to speculation about the end of the system’s life? Has Sony discontinued it, but only told the stores?
From I hear I think gamestop has a problem with the game’s price or something like that. Like it isn’t enough for them to care to sell it. Which may be why they are only selling the PSP and Wii versions because they are going to be at least thirty bucks. They know they probably won’t be able to get away with charging twenty bucks for it like they did with KOFXI and NGBC.
KoF XI was only $15 the day it was released. I caught it by mistake, hadn’t been following SNK-P’s releases and saw NGBC on the shelf. Scooped it up and took it to the counter, and I made some small talk about how I was a big fighter fan. The gentleman working there said, “Well, we just got this one in…” and grabbed the single copy of XI he had just unpacked from the shipping box… $15.
As for the GS deal, they’re flaky as hell when it comes to any “unpopular” games. This isn’t the first time they’ve simply pulled games from the system days before (or after) the release date.
Amazon, guys. They shipped mine for free.
There’s a good lad. Ya’ll need to learn why I shop there so much.
Can the Wii version be played with a Gamecube Controller
