I believe Balrogs hitbox is closer to you higher up (like it leans forward higher up or something). I could be wrong about this as I’ve never tried punishing dashes with st.lk. I also just remember on Balrog, you can do cl.fp xx tatsu, cr.fp xx tatsu, st.lp > cr.mk/sweep.
We have a local Rog, I always smack him with s.lp for the punish. Just link it into cr.mk and you get a full punish. I’ve also never tried s.lk, jab to cr.mk just seems easier, and I don’t have to buffer straight into shou.
I doubt a good Balrog would do it close enough for close HP to connect…
And yeah you’re right about the s.LP over st.LK but like Deebs said if he’s a bit far you could use the extra range from st.LK!
I do jab ex tatsu. Probably just wasting meter, but getting a knockdown on Balrog is critical imo.

Well to be fair you could do stLK > tatsu too but you don’t get the knockdown and you get -2 if he blocks…
