I actually think chun is a pretty hard matchup. You have to be patient and not run into her pokes all day. Make sure you block her hizansho or however you spell that, or better yet focus through it and punish. Also, if you scout a sweep, focus through that and punish.
Cool been mostly trying to focus that, though still have to practice focusing that hazansho .
The matchups that give me most trouble are Juri, Rose, Chun, Dhalsim, Fuerte, Guile and Balrog; but i feel that they’ll turn into even or good matchups when actually learn how play them.
My easiest matchups are Seth, Ryu, Zangief and Gouken. For Ryu and Zangief its probably because i never played good ones, but against Seth and Gouken i feel that i can win even against guys i should not be winning.
I played Ibuki in 3rd strike and she had some REAL bad matchups, i don’t feel like Sakura has anything close to that.
Just played a good Dhalsim I think it might be my worst matchup now. Though this might be due to lack of matchup knowledge, since it’s so rare to encounter one who’s half way decent.
How do i keep Ibuki out of my air space? Her j.LK wins against cr.HP most of the time and i’m not having much sucesses jumping air to air either.
Also, how do you guys aproach the Sakura mirror?
Dhalsim is pretty easy.
At the beginning I like to start the round with cr HP, its hilarious when they stick out a limb first thing and get slapped for it.
Then go full screen away from him and have a fireball war, if they love sticking out their limbs charge the fireball and they’ll get hit for a lot of damage because it’ll catch their limb.
Once you get EX don’t STRAIGHT AWAY do this but carry on for a bit throwing fireballs then out of nowhere just EX otoshi through his fireball and because Otoshi forces slow stand just quickly dash their body into the corner and then from there its a big guessing game for Sim, and never give up against Sim.
Even if they are amazingly good at keeping you out you have to remember you just need to corner him ONCE and you can win the whole round.
His normals are really slow up close and I find most of Sakura’s can beat his and I even do the regular lk tatsu combo on him while he’s blocking and if he does ANYTHING during it I get a counter hit
Anyone got tips against Seth? I believe I’m more of a turtle oriented Sakura, Seth jumping in from full screen with that wall jump and his incredible air normals is really, really frustrating, it’s tough to hit with a AA cr.hp against that. Also his amazing pressure and mixup game is really annoying too.
Jump medium punch should beat his wall jump, block all his block strings, if he’s spamming command grab, try and jump. If you jump and do j hp, st hp, l tatsu combo he will lose a butt ton of health…
And ANY dive kicks do a times cr hp.
I play a really good Seth daily and also used to main him!
Don’t focus against Seth or you’ll be sucked in.
Learn to block mainly. Because if you learn to react then all he can hit you with is piledriver.
Seth pressure is actually quite easy to block its just the command grabs/tanden engines that turn it into a guessing game
I get blown up by Ryu and Cammy still, I’m also quite lacking against Vega. Any advice on those three? Particularly Ryu since I really feel lost against his zoning and wakeup and because there is some Cammy/Vega discussion earlier in the thread I can try to incorporate.
How do you handle Seth? I have yet to fight a particularly strong one but I feel like a good Seth would have little trouble against Sakura.
I think at the highest level of play Seth beats Sakura; but with her damage output and his low health he really has to be consistent during the whole match/set. I can’t really explain how i handle him but it aways feel kinda like Fuudo vs Poonko where he’s controling the match and then i get a random hit (block dp, jump on tanden or spd, etc) and win.
When i’m playing very good players i usually lose every single match, but against Seth players it seems like if they lose focus for a second or two i can grab a win here and there.
Fei Long is a pretty bad match-up for me. My sakura is rush-down orriented but I can’t pressure him because I’ll eat rekkas if my pokes whiff. I get DP’ed on jumps and chicken winged when I throw any fireballs. My only safe bet was to bait any rekkas using s.lk and they punishing on block, but that rarely works since my opponents quickly catch on. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
I find doing HK tatsu near them scores some chip and every now and then if you do stLK straight after and cancel into tatsu that seems to counter hit them quite often…
She’s -2 after hk tatsu, doing anything after that isn’t a good idea as she can get CH’ed easily.
I’m gonna sleep now but I’ll do a writeup of what I know of vs Fei tomorrow.
Seriously?
I was playing a Fei Long, who I could not penetrate AT all…
EX shuo he blocked, jump in he anti aired as appropriate, walk in he would stick out normals and buffer then combo into rekkas or just throw out random rekkas in general, (at the time I didn’t know about buffer crMK into HP shuoken but I bet that would’ve worked if I knew it back then…) and I was ready to give up after losing 3 games almost being perfected each time because I couldn’t do anything…
Then I just did crLP HK tatsu, crLP HK tatsu over and over and he couldn’t do anything except mash dp every now and then…
Well if it hits, she’s +2 iirc, but -2 on block.
Well I have been studying this match-up a bit and it’s incredibly footsie oriented. Sakura’s best pokes ( s.hk and cr.mk) can both be punished on whiff by rekkas. The same can be said about a whiffed cr.hp from Fei which can be punish by shouken. The problem is that shoukens are very unsafe and much risker than the a light rekka. Alot of patience is needed to win turn this match-up in your favor. Alot of baits with s.lk and alot of neutal jump hk for when you “feel” that a rekka is coming.
Also, ANTI AIR! If you can’t AA any of Fei’s jump ins then you have lost since you are basically giving him the ability to pressure you both on the ground and up high. Alot more mind games are implemented in the specific match-up but this is more or less the back bone.
And all rekkas are pubishable after the first hit with st. Lk xx dp, so long as fei’s in range.
The fei matchup is all about correct spacing, being able to read rekkas with straight jump, focus and walk back and pushing him back with st.hk. You also need to be able to punish him for trying to escape your pressure with ex cw, backdash and focus backdash. Sakura does have ambigous mixups on him because he has a wide hitbox, so you want to abuse that as much as possible.
Would be better to do st.lp > Cr.mk if you can, safer than doing st.lk xx dp, or even st.lk xx ex tatsu to get a nice combo or +4 on block.
Sorry if this is a noob question but its bugging me now…
What’s ex cw?
I tried thinking of all her EX moves but can’t match cw with any of them…
