Sakura Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

I’m pretty new to the game, and online play, so here’s a question: How do I deal with players that either turtle, or continuously jump backwards? The Hardest CPU is always pretty aggressive, and I do really well against it, but online I encounter a lot of players that just continuously jump backwards. Like a Juri that just jumped back and waited for me to move forward to do a dive kick, or a Ryu that just jumped backwards and hadokened from across the screen for a majority of the match. I always feel like I can’t get in close and put on the pressure when up against this play style.

you just need to be patient. slowly move forward by small amounts so that you can keep blocking. Once you get them cornered, don’t chase them further into the corner and eat jump back roundhouse(I used to do that a lot), instead wait for them to try to jump out. Try to put yourself in/near the spot they’d land if they jumped forward so that you can AA them easily and wait for them to jump onto your crouch fierce. From this range, or maybe a little closer, you should also be able to use standing roundhouse to smack them down if you can hit them right as they’re trying to jump.

For Juri a nicely timed j.lk will stuff out the dive kick. Also if she’s jumping back you can dash forward and use a shory of your choice just keep in mind the ranges of each. For Ryu’s spammin fireballs the second you see him begin to hado use your EX otoshi to close the gap if you dont hit him go for a few jabs then sweep for the knockdown. Also use your air shunpu to keep control of the air. If they jump in at you use cr.hp or st.hk.

ex otoshi doesn’t work against a good ryu, 90% of the time you will eat a shoryu

What do you recommend?

i find jumping round house hard to beat out juri’s dive kick. its pretty easy to do with cr.HP

dunno if this is allrdy known…but i discovered a weird way to reset opponents in corner.

u’ll see,u got the perfect spacing for crossup jLK after that

which one the one where you reset and then cross them up to the corner again? I already knew that and you can cross up with mk

yepp.i know…in this video,i sometimes cross with mk…but its my habit since vanilla,to cross with lk xD

damn browser…doublepost…sry

lk in my opinion is a lot more reliable.

yepp… imo too

I only use j.LK cross-ups against Zangief or if I specifically want to tick throw rather than trying to hit confirm into a combo. j.MK seems to have a wider area so it’s harder to miss with, on top of more stun and damage and longer hit/block stun makes it very delicious in my eyes :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m using j.lk more because j.mk sometimes puts you out of range for c.hp ->ex tatsu after hitconfirm.

I read plinking makes sakura’s BnB easier, how exactly does it help since original I just do the Bnb the way it is but people say plinking makes it a lot more easier. Does plinking make it have more priority or better for execution? Still new at understanding these things -_-

Plinking only “increases your chance of successfully landing the link.” It doesn’t make the move any better. I only plink specific things. For example, for whatever reason I find shou>fadc>cr.hp really easy, so I never plink it. I might start doing it though since I’ve started playing online again grumble.

But basically plinking allows you to have two inputs a frame apart with a “single” press, so if you do it 1 frame early you’ll still land the link. There’s ways to do triple plinks too, but it looks like a lot of work.

Dear Sakura forum,

Hi, I’m a mediocre Sagat/Adon/Ken player. I usually can make a pretty good showing against very good players; I may not win, but I usually pick up a round or keep it kind of close.

But then, every now and then, I’ll run into a really good Sakura player, and I’ll get double perfected out of nowhere. Like, I don’t have time to even hit a jab or a short–just nonstop anal thrashing and then the match is over. I don’t care for it.

So I guess my stupid question is… wtf do I do in said situation? Where do I start? What are the most common mistakes people make against Sakura? Learning the matchup is hard when so few people play her.

I discovered (?) a similar type of corner reset about a month back. After you do the walk jab part, you dash forward and land back in front of them.

You actually go a hell of a lot farther with it too if you kara it. You can do some funky crossup stuff with ground ex into air ex. Also not a bad escape option.

Not really practical though.

Thankyou, this is now my favourite Sakura combo video!

At about 2:31 you appear to combo s.lp -> c.hk !! How is this possible?! Is it possible? I’ve been trying for about an hour. Never mind, I did it. OMG this is revolutionary.
