Sakura Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

hey guys I stopped playing super for a while and I am actually thinking of changing character do you guys ever felt that way?

I mean I don’t know what are your motivations? I just love playing her but I alway feel that It would be easier play other characters and sometimes when i lose against a shoryuken> ultra or someting like that I just grrrr.

I guess I will stop for a while watch some videos and try get on my feet.

I’ve actually felt this way on and off a number of times. I’ve quit maining sak a couple times, but kept coming back to her, so now, I just take breaks and play a little Ryu and Chun Li when i’m frusterated. I think putting time into other characters has helped my Sak get better as well. Looking at the game from a new angle and stuff.

You won’t get many chances at ALL to land your BnB actually.

A link that needs to be learned by every Sakura player is cr.jab, cr.medium kick. It’s a free HP shouken, which if you’re fighting a character that can outzone you commpletely is the perfect time to use the Shou FADC combo.

I only don’t like using the Shou FADC combo if I can land the BnB (cr.lk, cr.lp, cr.FP, respectively). Her mixup is so strong that I like to get it started as much as I can. As a way to get in it’s fantastic though, because I land the cr.jab, cr.medium kick xx shouken combo every match, easily. It’s a main source for big damage and with the Shou FADC combo, it’s big damage and a lead in to a free mixup.

Yep I felt this way back in vanilla sf4. I was about to main c.viper instead of sakura cause of her absence at the arcade versions, I played with viper for around a week then quit cause she didn’t feel right to use. I just stick with Sakura now cause I realised that she was the character that I felt most comfortable with.

Could someone tell me some easy combos to do with Sakura? I really like the character and do pretty well with her against my friends and stuff but I don’t really do any combos besides j.HP>s.HP>HP Shou.

So I am just looking for some basic combos that as I get better could build upon but for now I am still a beginner.

You can use an Ex.Shun instead of HP Shou to knock them into the air, and otoshi afterwards. If they block, Hadoken instead for some safe chip damage.

You can also hit a free ultra after EX Shunpu, use the air version with kicks. Also, practice crouching mk to HP Shou, good distance.

Alright I’ll work on those things, thanks guys. I really like Sakura, I just suck with her right now.

Hey I have another question. I’ve been doing HP>Ex Shun>j.lk but I am not sure what I am supposed to be doing when my opponent is falling back down, I was told there was a way to continue my combo but I am not sure how.

prepared for a couple of people to post video links for that lol. there are some good tutorials done by people on youtube

Is Sakura one of those characters who could rely on jump-in attacks? Without jumping, I cannot execute cr lk, cr lp, cr hp. the cr hp whiffs because I wasn’t close enough, and I wasn’t close enough because I can’t get in closer or else I just get hit.

I’m close enough if I jump in, but isn’t jumping not the best way to approach in general?

I would like to see someone consistently nail the shou fadc combo. It seems to me that it is just too hard to do at the cost 2 bars, especially since ex shunpu is so amazing and ex shou is her only wakeup option.
To base your entire game on trying to land a combo that even the best players miss more often than get seems foolish to me.

Before you say “skatan!” watch his fights against Louie at dreamhack. He was 1 for 4 with that combo in their 2 sets, and missing it actually costed him the last round. I’ve never even seen uryo attempt it.

a guaranteed combo off of j.lk? or is that just another mixup option?

anyways a couple of noobish questions:

  1. why ultra 1? that’s all the “good” players seem to use and I don’t quite understand why. especially with all the shou play I see, which makes for nice setups for U2 in the corner, and on distanced jump ins as well.

  2. i see high level players punishing with c.mk -> shou all the time, even with meter. isn’t there more damaging combos with cr.hp -> shun?

Yeah ultra 1 no doubt the damage is really good, on the other hand ultra2 has a lot of setups.

i go ultra 2 because if u got some one scared in a corner u can anti air with ultra 2 or u can connect with a lk to lp shou into a full ultra.

here is eish’s video its pretty good so enjoy

Yeah no doubt i learned so much from that video.

Watch Skatan’s other matches where he nails it consistantly against Alioune, Vryu and Sh1nd.
Making excuses about the technical execution barrier will only makes you lag behind every other Sakura players. We’ve seen japanese players do even harder combos on SF2X with Fei Long, Cammy, Blanka, etc…
We’ve seen japaneses and westerners do Gouki’s HK loop and Fuerte’s RSF on regular basis at the end of Vanilla. And guess what ? It took time and dedication to master those.

(having said that i’m stuck at 2 fadc loops in training mode…)

Yeah talking about that yesterday i was loosing and i connected c.mk> shuou FADC > st.HP ( and i was like damn I really have to hit that )and I did but then i failed the easy part of the combo and i lost XD

The point is man just keep trying

OK I have recently gained an obsession with Cardcaptor Sakura lol.

So can somebody please find me the closest costume that looks like one of her’s in the anime? And any taunt that may apply.

Lol I’m actually serious.
