Saikyo-ryuu for Dummies: Dan Video Thread!

I can’t watch it for some reason :frowning:

I had a feeling Dan would win

Need to tighten up your punishment, were letting too many blocked/whiffed Tiger Uppercuts go, one you threw out an EX Kouryuken, which is just a waste of meter :frowning: That Sagat didn’t know how to dash out of those Focus Attacks, instead of jumping at him after back dashing just go in with an HK Dankuu or EX, both should hit him before he could recover.
If you were a bit further away when you did Ultra it would have probably beaten his, think his invulnerability was still active when you activated so you obviously miss but his attack is still going so you get caught :frowning:

Careful with Air Dankuu, you got punished an aweful lot when using them. MK and HK versions are near impossible to actually hit opponents on the ground, should only really be using them to catch people in the air.

Also if you want to juggle after Kouryuken AA then I think EX Kouryuken does a bit more than EX Gadouken :stuck_out_tongue: Can do that in the corner after Knee hits if you want too.

Bring it on.

Here’s the rematch:

revenge is sweet:)

Edit: D-Bus you are the man. keep it up!

Why don’t you punish the Ultra whiffs? Well you won that match, getting the Legendary Taunt out there but being hit out of it is instant disqualification :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah, ive got a lot of stuff to fix. (Thanks for the critiquing) Honestly i had no idea you could punish air fireballs with Dan’s Ultra, Justin told me afterwords and i was like “wat.” I had thought about trying it during the match, but his recovery looked really short by the time he landed. shrug Akuma’s one of my worst personal matchups just because of my jump habit that i’m trying to break.

At the end where i start spamming Danku in the air, i was trying to build super meter to lose with a super taunt, but when i landed i panicked and fudged the input, resulting in that koryuken. Next time i’ll land it, i promise. =P

There’s another tourney on the 14th of November that’s getting streamed, hopefully ill show some improvement by then.

Thanks for your tips, I realized most of it while re-watching my matches, gonna try to get a little better over time

Because I’m a n00b. But yeah you’re right, whiffed ultra’s should always be punished… With a taunt

At the very least :stuck_out_tongue:

Dan’s Ultra is one of the easier ones to punish, does 0 chip damage, huge recovery and don’t have to worry about which side he’ll end up on, also no push back at all.

Here’s a G2 Dan player from Japan:

What the hell? Why do you suddenly have >11k points, yesterday you were at about 1000, isn’t that right?

lol. not me playing. just a replay of some Japanese player.

Heh, unless you suddenly moved to Japan, got a new handle and played a lot :stuck_out_tongue:

Heh, saw that the name was different, too, sorry

played for almost 3 hours tonight… only 1 win. i fucking hate this game sometimes.
why is it that ryu is so vasty superior that you cant even begin to compete with him?

im tired of some low g2 n00b being able to spam stuff and have it work and combo/cancel into something else thats devistating.

christ i wish this game was FULLY balanced. Dan is fun some days but days where you just lose 10 matches in a row to a guy you KNOW dosent know how to do anything is FRUSTRATING.
like that EX hurricant into EX fireball into EX hurricane for almost 50% life… all started off a crouching forwardkick… uppercut cancels into super, uppercut FDAC into ULTRA… at anytime the EX fireball hits it can also trigger the ultra if you have it buffered… i mean GOD MAN WHY CANT I HAVE THAT???

Sounds like someone got their Saikyo Spirit crushed.

Just remember, you and you alone chose to use the obviously broken, obviously shitty character when you logged on today. I know I don’t need to preach to you about what you need to do to win. Be substantially better and sharpen your control to the point where the ease of execution for easy-mode characters like Ryu are a moot point.

I feel the same way you do sometimes. I take a break when that happens, or go play some casual matches and focus solely on playing Taunt-Happy Dan-Style. People get seriously baffled when you try to practice Kara-Taunts in live online matches.

Not strictly true, have to be in corner to land Ultra after EX Hadouken unless you FADC it. If you’re playing against scrubby Ryus, which you probably will do most of the time, you can bet they’ll be looking for the easy Ultra setups, thus being the LP Shoryuken AA or EX Tatsu in the corner. They won’t be able to FADC into Ultra, they suck too much for that :stuck_out_tongue:

If you get fed up of playing the same boring turtle pussies then just try to bore them to death. Don’t advance towards them, just jump taunt over every fireball or against Sagat crouch taunt under the High Tiger Shots

If you actually want to win more then you’ll have to give up on some of that taunting you like to do :stuck_out_tongue:

Heh I was doing this on Friday. I got so annoyed playing against the hoardes of Ryu/Sagat/Kens I decided I wasn’t going to play any more of them. So when I got one I would stand full screen and try and kara taunt every fireball. If they got close ( wish they usually don’t, most are quite happy to spend the entire match fireballing) I would air taunt over them and dash to the other side of the screen. I found that more fun than actually trying to beat them.

Hehe sounds like fun, I can’t kara-taunt without changing my controls though :frowning: I could probably change the KKK and PPP buttons since I don’t use them :stuck_out_tongue:

How would you change the controls to make this easier? i can only do it in training holding my controller in such a way that doing anything other than a kara-taunt is impossible… If I could successfully incorporate kara-taunting and FADC into my game I’d be happier than a pig in shit.

Find someone to play some player matches with. I connected with someone the other day, we played for an hour or so and he picked pretty much ever higher tier character in the game. At the end of it all we were 50% each on the win rate but he left with a new found respect for the power of Saikyo and I left with my frustrations towards the online community reset.

It might take awhile to find an opponent that isn’t a scrub but in the end it is worth it.

Well, it sounds like the guy does know how to do things in that case. You don’t accidently do EX Tatsu > EX Hadoken > EX Tatsu in the corner. You don’t accidently do Shoryuken > FADC > Ultra. You don’t accidently do Shoryuken into Sup… erm, well, that can be accidental sometimes.

The thing is, you complain about not being able to have that? You can have that. You just need to play Ryu. If you’re getting this frustrated about things, then maybe that’s what you should do. Frustration is not what a Dan player is supposed to feel. It’s not Saikyo spirit. I don’t get frustrated, I just keep playing. If I were the type to get frustrated easily, would I be playing Dan?

If you’re really upset about things, then go and play Sagat or Ryu for a week or so. See how you’re feeling after that. Maybe you’ll feel liberated and powerful, able to rise to any challenge. Maybe you’ll be missing the silliness and feeling unfulfilled. I don’t know, and neither will you, unless you try it.
