I think I won that match. 35K BP Sagat or something. I was scraping him in the last round…had a perfect going and he was down to 15%. But then I traded on a jump-in…you know what that means. I still won the match but we all had a nice laugh over Chun losing 85% of her life.

I was at Avion on Sunday and there was the Boxer from last night, wao (70K+ Ken), and CANTONA (80K+ ? Gief) came right when I left. And lots of other random people playing as well.

One question. I dont know how many non arcade cabinet events you have been to but any idea what kind of HD monitors they use over there? In the gods garden videos i saw HD monitors just didnt know which onnes they were… im sure the Japanese players are very sensitive to input lag n shit. If u happen to know which ones they use lemme know man ill run and buy one asap lol.

Hey sabin have you fought many claws in japan? How do you deal with claw with sim, seems like a challenging matchup.

i feel its kinda even. this is one of the few matches where sim can rush down on the ground. I try not to antiair vega too much since his jumpins are strong (unless he is over my head, then I can b. strong him. EX upflame as usual is good against ambiguous wall dive setups. Never do jump back fierce as a instant overhead unless he loses his charge, youll get walldived for free and the trade isnt worth it.

The thing that I worry about the most when playing vega is his df. rh. Spaced properly it owns crouch teching…and vega has fast walk speed so this is a useful tool for him period. So I gotta watch out for this poke, but he can mix it up with his kara throw which will force me to crouch tech.

Sagat is not overrated, hes too fucking good sometimes and top Japanese Sagats piss me the hell off to even play since they abuse the cheap stuff. That being said, at this point I’d rather fight Sagat over fighting Gouki…or any of Sim’s counter characters, haha. He is too good, but his worst matchup is easily vs Gouki. (which is something I’m happy about, cause Sagat NEEDS more bad matchups like the rest of the cast.)

Man, Desora’s got one mean Sagat and a top-notch Gouken. Of course, I’m not saying anything that everyone doesn’t already know.

I wonder how Sim fares against Gouken.

from playing Sanfords Gouken before I left for Japan, I think Gouken has advantage over sim but my matchup knowledge is getting fuzzy since I’ve been in Japan for a little over a month now.

You need a non prepaid Japanese cellphone. I have a Softbank prepaid so I can’t register my card. I used my gf’s cellphone since its not prepaid and she obviously speaks Japanese. Speaking of which I need to customize my Ryu/Sim cards some more…

3. theres money involved in US tournaments so top players dont wanna reveal their tricks
4. Because of 1-3 a divide formed, and theres a lot of hate on both sides. OG’s feel new school players talk too much shit (esp on youtube lol) and new school players think top players are elitist fucks. It’s a vicious cycle that I hope stops someday but might not because of American culture maybe…

Yes, but I don’t want to write a few paragraphs about it now. Watch the last few weeks of TRF (specifically NicoNicoMark) if you want to learn more about how Japanese guiles play different from Americas. In general though it comes down to better decision making and better spacing.

What do the Japanese players (and you) use to sustain marathon SFIV arcade sessions? Any Japanese version of Red Bull or some other energy drink? I think I heard you can smoke in the arcades, I assume you can eat and drink as well? Are there food courts in the arcades?

Have you heard of any good arcades in Kyoto? Great city to visit if they do.

What was your strategy when you played (and beat) Daigo and did it end up working out as you expected? (If he’s already discussed this some place else please post the link)

And lots of cigarettes lol, packs are $3 box USD and you can smoke in arcades so yeah. its generally frowned to eat inside a arcade but yeah you can drink here no problem, since they all have vending machines. Theres no food courts in the arcades though unless they are “family friendly” arcades. Those kind of places are typically casual arcades though. The last “family friendly” arcade I went to was owned by Namco, and it was really nice - also had a gyoza restaurant owned by namco on the top floor heh.

As for my strategy vs Daigo, I can’t talk about this too much yet, cant explain why at this time though sorry. But I will say this, I pretty much thought he was shit the whole time regardless of his reputation. Refused to be scared just because he’s “Daigo”. Still he’s a amazing player and when playing him, its hard not to get mindfucked by some of the shit he does.

im less confident. what iyo says rings true, these matchups are tough as shit for him too. also ive lost the last 3 TRF tourneys to rufus. Straight up in those matchups I’d still rather use Seth and I’m going to practice my Ryu vs those 2 matchups specifically…since its infinitely better than Sim vs those 2 characters. That doesnt mean I won’t try to leanr the bad matchups as much as possible though, which is what I’ve been doing.

I live in Osaka and I have an almost decent Ryu. I’d love to play against ya. If you let me know where you’ll be playing on Tuesday night, I’d go.

no idea about the HD monitors man, check the specs for the Taito Viewlix (spelling?) cabinets and see what kind of HD monitors they have, theres your answer. no time really to search now sorry!
