People getting salty and messaging others their frustration fighting Laura. I get it, I’ve recently taken up Birdie and understand the struggle against the non-stop onslaught of Laura. But its silly to waste time cursing somebody out over chat.
To deal with my own saltiness, I’ve first modded my Madcatz TE Round 1 for my kids: its covered with Disney Characters and gave it to them. My new joystick that I’m building will have cover art covered with pics of my kids so if I ever think about flipping or slamming my stick in frustration, I’ll be disrespecting them.
That’s a cute solution. I really don’t get it, I mean I’ve certainly screamed obscenities and been PO’ed at certain things (lag, aa jabs, Urien in general haha) but that’s part of the fun. I have never even once thought about rage quitting and the only time I message people is to add friends for a rematch or if they rage quit on me you know I’m going to message them and rub some salt on that wound lol.
I got little eyes on me, and I want them to be better than me (at Street Fighter and life in general). And my son is taking an extreme liking to his new joystick, and is currently learning the basics of directions playing Pac-Man Championship Edition DX. He is finally beginning to consistently go in the direction he wants to, both in Pac-Man and SF5.
My problem is personally, I get salty a bit too easily. Yeah mocking the other player or yelling at him is fun, but the salt flows from me like a white sands beach in the Caribbean. I play better when I am having fun, and I try to avoid salt as much as possible. The silly changes to my joystick actually helped in that regard.
As a result I feel as though I’m making breakthroughs with Laura, and my new alt Birdie… winning matches I would be frustrated and lose in. I’m making a personal goal of finally getting to gold and staying there by the end of May.
@OceanMachine that is a fantastic color. Imma grab it today.
Oh yeah, that moment when you play a match. Lose the first match of a set, win the second, and your opponent leaves before the third… only to get that opponent again and beat him. Then they scamper off again.
Aww… don’t like playing with Laura M Bison? Boo-hoo…
Happened to me this morning. God that does feel good.
What options does the defending character have when Laura does st mp, cr mp, mp clap in the corner (opponent is in the corner)? When I was testing this, the mp clap seemed to hit quite meaty, granting enough frame advantage to guarantee another st mp if the opponent doesn’t have meter.
However, I suspect I’m missing something here, as that would seem to make this an infinite against characters without meter … and I doubt that is the case.
Who rage quits in a beta? Seriously!? C’mon its just Laura.
FYI I’ve been seeing several Alex’s. He is making a comeback. Or at least people are trying him. Match is a bit more difficult now.
Ed… maybe its day one but it doesn’t seem like he is that much of a problem. A lot of people try to use his V-Trigger for pressure. Problem is without an over head all you have to do is block low and you are fine. I expect some folks are going to use he dash punch to get on the other side of you during that… but whatevs.
So far he isn’t that difficult for Laura. Remains to be seen what the meta produces.
So now that we’re gonna lose the LP bolt setup after VT/EX command grab, what will you do in S2.1 after getting a knockdown with those? Has anyone found a setup you can do in this situation which is unavailable after a regular command grab? Because right now the only thing “enhanced” grabs do for me is make st. HK or LP bolt auto setups whiff.
OK what the FUCK is up with this girls jumping hurtbox??? Im getting slapped out of the air by some of the most stupid moves that arent even AAs when I make a correct read!!! Fully behind someone and still watching her flop backwards over their head, I should be rewarded for making you fuck up your moves dammit! Yet people can jump all over her for the free 99 when 4 feet away from her face!!
I’m really disappointed that I can’t participate in Dreamhack. The hotels have been fully booked for over three months and as a result most people are skipping this one. A CPT Premier with 35~ participants while in CEO the amount is 548.
Oh well, hopefully I can make it into Moscow Fighting Arena and have some good matches there.
Options Laura has versus people that always press buttons on lauras dash shenanigans, but time it so that if Laura were to not cancel, they wouldn’t get hit by a frame trap:
St.mp or cr.mp xx VSB xx L bolt. This will wiff punish any light attack.
cr.mp xx fireball. This will ch people that are looking for a cancel animation to react to, afterwards Laura is point blank in range for a command grab/st.mp xx ex fireball 50/50
People that autopilot mediums after blocking lauras st.mk:
St.mk xx VSB xx L bolt wiff punishes mediums, but not lights.
Bonus dumbstuff to style:
St.mp,cr.mp or st.mk xx VSB xx super will wiff punish light attacks or higher if the opponent pressed a button they get grabbed.
These are along the lines of moves that you can use to give yourself opportunities that may not have had before, and since Laura is so momentum based, it can be worth it to go for some of these IF YOU HAVE THE READ. Also note that since these punish opponent pressing pre emptive buttons, this can open up lauras dash shenanigans. It’s only as weak or as strong as your reads.
Been quiet in this channel, so I’d figure I’d post here: going to my first tournament in a long while. Its a local tournament, about 4 blocks from me at Mission Control in Santa Ana. I haven’t played against anybody in public at Street Fighter in a sense were I really gave a damn about winning since 3rd Strike in 2004 at college.
Any advice to make Laura bust heads (other than practice, practice, practice)? I’m pretty sure I’ll go two and out, but I’d rather look somewhat like I know what I am doing when playing.
