Ryu Tutorial Video

Man, you are with out a doubt the person that has helped me the most, the basic things are life savers, I can’t get everything down that I’ve seen you do, but I’m practicing.
Give this man a MEDAL!hehe
Thanks again!

Just wanted to say great videos! Looking forward to part 5!

Great videos.

great tutorial

i’m having trouble doing the c.lk c.lp c.hp tatsumaki.

for some reason i cant link the c.hp after the c.lp

any tips?

Training mode. Turn on auto block. Press the button once. If it comes out and is blocked, you did it too late. If it doesn’t come out, you pressed it too soon. Best of luck. There are no tricks. Just practice.

try plinking?

You don’t need plinking for this. I can hit that combo at least 7/10 and I don’t practice it more than maybe 2mins like once a week now. It’s super easy once you feel the timing.

You don’t ‘need’ plinking for anything, but if you’re going to muscle memory a combo, why not muscle memory it with plinking? It’s better to plink than to not plink if you can do it right.

Also, 7/10 is crap

the trick to do it is you must know the spacing timing of when you press the c.lk, to c.lp from c.lp to c.hp is the same space timing.

hmm i’ll give it a try tonight… also what is plinking…sorry im still a sf4 noob…

Nice tutorial Mickey. But I think we can learn even more if you uploaded some of your matches and showed us how these basics work in a real game. For example, you mentioned somewhere how Ryu has relative difficulty opening an opponent up once he is down on health. I would like to see how you react to that situation in a real match.

A tip I can give you is upload the video on youtube and add annotationswith pauses. I can’t find seem to find an example for it now but you can auto pause the video for 5-6 secs and tell us what exactly you were thinking at that point.

EDIT: - thats a good example of what you can do with annotations

Thanks for the input…I might look into it.

Sup, I grew up 20min north of Seattle and registered an account here just to say thanks MIckey. Your tutorial videos have been my bible since I picked up the game on PC last friday. Last time I played was Street Fighter Alpha 2 and your videos made me stop trying to button mash to victory.

It’s going to take me a long ass time before I have the skills to take full advantage of your lessons (i can srk FADC ultra 50% of the time, so i mostly just use normals in online matches) but just wanted to say PLEASE MAKE MORE VIDEOS (cool that the fifth is in the works).

You’re a great teacher keep it up.

I have a problem with your second video.

“Ryu has no way of dealing with Blanka Ball.”

How about Low Strong?..

c.lp
d.mp
shoryu
super after guard
ultra if blanka is in the corner and not too far from him(sweep distance or even a little bit more)

but be carrefull to not spam cr.lp or cr.mp as he can punish with his df.hp

I don’t agree with holding the super though. You can use your meter for better things. It’s not hard to see which blanka ball he’s using if you look from where he’s doing it and from how slow he rolls, so you can either focus if he’s too far or you can cr.mp if you know he’s getting close enough. Dealing with ball will destroy most blankas, they won’t know what to do if they can’t shenanigan you.

Super is there if you fight someone who combo’s into blanka ball…

Sorry you disagree’d with my video, I could honestly care less. The video was made awhile back…all the counters that Ranix listed are valid, however the tutorial was for beginners…sorry if it wasn’t good enough for you.

I won’t be coming out with the next video for a bit due to lack of really wanting to help the community…sorry guys…after seeing the bullshit that happens around here, I’ve kinda lost a lot of faith in helping the majority…it just seems pretty unrewarding.

We’ll see when it comes out…

That sucks, Mickey. I hope you find the ambition to make some more. I know they helped me a ton. You honestly make more sense than anyone else I’ve heard talk about SF strategy. A lot of players don’t know how to put this stuff into words, but you do, and you’re very good at it.
