whats the difference between ryu’s cr.mk and cr.hk?
c.MK is Ryu’s main poke,it is special move cancellable and much more safe to use than c.HK.c.HK has slightly more range than c.MK but it is not special move cancellable and it is around -16 on block,it is easily punishable at close range.c.HK is only really used in combos, footsies to punish whiffed pokes, andas a punish when they are too far away to punish with anything else.
err that was a dumb question
i meant fj.mk and fj.hk
also, i was watching the air/mike ross guide to ryu, and air said you have to use MP shoryuken to anti-air people. why MP instead of LP and HP?
edit: i just looked up the frame data and now i understand why MP SRK > LP and HP LOL
in that case: when are good times to use LP and HP SRK?
LP is good for some weird jump arcs,Hp is good for combos. Also j.HK is more damage and reach than j.MK
oh, alright, thanks
also, how good (if at all) are st.MK and st.MP as footsie moves? i seem to be able to use them, but i haven’t heard anything about them in any of the research i’ve done. i’m quite new to the game, so i don’t know if there’s anything wrong with them that i just don’t get.
well they have there uses I’m sure,I cant tell them to you but someone else might be able to lol.I do remember s.MK being okay against vega though.
You know you could use this to setup a trade OS frame trap.
Actually you can do the same thing with close HP,if it trades you can OS the reversal ultra and it will connect,cr.LP to cr.HP leaves a 3 frame gap which is useful against characters without 3 frame normals like viper and abel.To make it safe you OS a Hado and OS the ultra in case it trades, why am I just now finding out about this? lol
Lol, maybe because I made the vid on how to do it just a few days ago.
You can’t actually use that Trade OS Ultra setup vs Abel or Viper because they can’t trade with the HP. They will always get counter-hit if they press anything during the gap. It only works against 3f normals, unless of course you delay the st.hp. Another option on their wakeup is to do a j.lk into st.hp xx fireball buffer U1 (similar to the setup Boxer uses in that vid). With the right timing it will leave enough space for a trade. Most good players won’t mash tech anyway though, so leaving a bigger gap between cr.lp/cr.mp and st.hp might work out better.
lol didn’t know that was your vid, good stuff.
Does cr.MK xx EX hakoden work for everyone? I just started using ryu, and there has been a couple of matches where the cr.MK hits but the ex hadoken whiffs. Is it character specific? I know it works point blank, but I OS it as pokes and at max range it whiffs sometimes and other times it hits. It messes me up a lot since I like to FADC it to ultra and I look retarded when it whiffs and I waste three bars and a stock ultra (sometimes).
As you’ve said, it works on everyone at point blank range. When it’s at just the tip, there’s a chance that it may or may not work. I think it’s dependent on the character’s hurtbox.
It probably depends on character.I think on counter hit it will always hit though.
How do I get better at anti-airing? I’m a bit of a Street Fighter noob, and my main problem is that I let people jump in on me way too often. I know it’s mostly an experience thing and I’ll probably get better at it as I continue playing, but is there any way to speed up the process? Also, what’s Ryu’s best AA option? HP, MP or LP Shoryuken?
Use MP shoryuken (5 frames of invincibility - highest number for Ryu). The thing is, anti-airing is probably one of the most difficult things to master. I’ll be honest here and say that the only one that has pretty much mastered it is Daigo himself. There are so many chances to anti-air, however even the top pros aren’t able to take it. It’s because you have to be extremely focused and you have to actually anticipate it. The goal is to first make sure you can hit the DP motion within an instant. The second thing is to ALWAYS THINK about your opponent jumping. If you have mental preparation, the moment they actually do jump will be thrwat when you DP them. Don’t walk back and make sure to properly control space. Also, don’t throw un-safe fireballs; in mid range, you can’t anti-air some jumpins as there’s not enough time for you to obviously recover. That pretty much sums it up.
You can also properly predict an AA if you see patterns emerging in your opponents play. But its a 50/50 guess unless you’re REALLY certain.
anyone have any tips to do jump in os shoryuken
i always do the os and end up getting a shoryuken even when the opponent blocks it
guess im not doing it fast enough
whats the best inputs to use?
Shoryuken is probably getting out because of negative edge.
My advice would probably be kind of boring but you have to do it faster and practice some more.
I know I had this problem a lot and it now it never happen.
I think one of the reason its hard at first is when you are safe jumping normally you had to put
your stick in blocking position while doing your jumping attack. Now you have to develop a new
set of habit since you want to start your srk os from neutral position.
Personally I will tell you what motion is best for me.
When I am on the right side I jump hk, and do the regular srk motion.
When I am on the left side i jump hk, and go downforward, down, downforward.
As soon as I have input my srk motion I will put my stick in blocking positon and do a light
attack.
When you practice on the dummy you should be able to Safe jump hk, OS srk and still
be able to do a c.lp in crouch position that link with jumping attack and finish with the combo
of your choice. If you cant do close to 100% you need more practice and more speed if your c.lp is getting
block.
One more thing when I am jumping and doing an OS srk , Its like one big motion and I am letting go of the stick and button.
There something very unnatural about OS its take some time for the brain to be able to do it correctly.
So, what are Ryu’s specific safejump setups? I know some of them, but I don’t play Ryu so I’m not as familiar as I should be. I’m asking so that I can help my friend who’s started transitioning from Makoto to Ryu.
do you mean how to time his safejump? or option selects?
