And if it’s offline, also scream “hadouken”.

Corner Ex-Tatsu to Ultra against Gen

It’s almost impossible for me to connect. This combo is something really easy against any other character i played against.

Does Gen have some special fall speed? He doesn’t look that heavy ;). Are there other characters with this problem? Not to sound lazy, but trying it against all chars in training mode will take time.

I havent tested this against Gen, but try putting an EX FB in b4 the ultra. For characters with fast fall speeds it juggles them a little bit more. It’s a bit of a waste of bar, but I think its the only option.

I need help against Gen. I don’t know why but I’ve been having problems against him since I made it to G2-B. I can handle everyone else just fine, even Vega, who I was struggling against before.

Or maybe I need to play him more since that’s one match-up I’m not really familiar with since I barely come across many Gens.

What messes me up is his cross up, or whatever it is, but he jumps low and over me hitting me on the head.

I not sure whether you mean is wall jump or his regular jump. For his wall jump, its really just a case of watching his angles, SRKing if possible or sometimes just jumping up with mk or fk…

if you mean his regular jump cross-up. Gens jumps are a bitch. They pretty muc make it unsafe to FB from any distance except full screen, so bear that in mind. You can definately counter his cross-ups, but I personally prefer just to block. Use a solid ground game against him, your basic pokes and shit. Gen’s great when youre throwing FB’s, jumping and trying to be all aggressive, but if you limit your attacks to ground moves, never jump, and dont FB from anywhere except full screen, you should find that Gen really neds to work for his hits, and you can counter, and throw some basic pokes and shit out. All in all, Gen is a counter character - he wants you to attack so he can dive over, or cross you up, or whatever, but if you just stand head-to-head with him, the advantage will be all yours.

Thanks a lot for your input, it really opened my eyes on what I was doing wrong on this matchup. And yes I meant his regular jump cross up, that thing is crazy. I have been a bit too aggressive on most of these matchups since I don’t come across fairly many Gens. Though now I started running into problems with more decently skilled Gens as I get closer to G-1. Was definitely throwing too many FBs and trying to cross him up myself too aggressively. Thought I could just do him up like most other characters.

Will definitely stick to your advice and work on a good ground game and punish his flaws. Thanks.

I need help playing against Dhalsim (pokes, jumping downward punch, teleport…annoying shit)… anybody got any tips?

I previously answered this in the AKS thread. My $0.02 on this is…

Dont rush. Dont try and jump in immediately. Sim needs to hurt you from far, but ALL of his attacks can e countered. Buffer SRK’s to try and counter anything he throws. You can FA his pokes an hit cause they all have slow recovery. Basically, youre looking to hit 1 of his pokes for a knockdown to get in. Youre best way of doing this is to just block and defend. Get an idea of his attack habbits, then, when you think he’s going to attack, SRK. OR, you can tatsu over a fireball - though I personall dont like this strategy.

99% of people lose to Sim because they instantly assume they have to get in, and they rush it. Just WAIT.

my personal favourite strategy is to just jump over one of his fireballs and stand still. Most Sims will then try for a poke to gain more distance. SRk or FA it, then youre in and it should be much easier.

does anyone know how to beat Sagat’s jumping elbow move (I think it’s j.mp)? It even seems to beat a HP SRK. I mean, seriously… how much more does Sagat need? He even has a free jump-in.

Thanks man. I lost 10 straight matches and couldn’t even get a one round victory. One of the main mistakes I had was I kept jumping in and doing a combo and he would punish. When I do hadoukens, he would jump up and hit me with a down/forward punch (dunno). Would you advise NOT to hadouken, if so, how can I attack besides focusing and waiting (if he has the lead)?

I’ve been having the same problem. Its very narrow horizontally so you might have some luck with crouching fierce. Also another factor is how early they throw out the elbow move. If they’re sticking it out early you might be able to get away with blocking/letting it hit you and then uppercut as soon as you recover. Obviously theres a risk involved.

You can probably nail Dhalsim with a super if hes doing that attack to punish you when you throw a fireball from mid screen. DarthPaul said a lot of good things already. You have to be extremely patient and gradually work your way inside. When you’re midscreen use FADC to absorb a poke and get closer. Don’t do it on a fireball since he can poke you as you absorb the fireball.

k; yeah, you dont want to hadouken unless it’s just to kill a yoga fire (though you probs wont wanna do that ever either).

A Sim with a lead is a pretty difficault situation (if the Sim’s smart). Basically, they’re not gonna commit to anything without being forced.

You have to just WALK forwards (or dash). Obviously, at some point theyre gonna throw a poke to push you back. That, once again gives you the options of SRKing or FAing.

Just realise that youre not gonna beat Sim from a distance without him making a mistake, and that any move you use is going to be countered. The ONLY way youre ever gonna hit Sim from distance is with frame advantage. You need to make him do SOMETHING and then counter it, or get past it. options here would include : walking up, baiting poke, SRK
FADC an FB, he’ll jump, SRK
just jab a shit load whilst moving forward (jab beats loads of Sim’s moves)
if you have super, make him jump using a regular FB then Super him (time it tightly)
that’s about it… there arrent really alot of things you can do. Just make him poke you, have an SRK buffered. and hit him.

Neutral J.MK taking advantage of its long reach. Everything else seems to lose/trade. You might need to space yourself a little bit more than usual. That’s what I use to counter it, but If anyone has any other ideas I’d like to hear them too.

what do you do against a lame seth?

I can’t even get an EX-FB after the corner EX-tatsu. Even a 2nd EX-tatsu is harder against Gen. Of course since ex-tatsu, ultra mostly works as punishment for mistakes, you can use fadc-srk here too. Just needs more meter and does 40 less damage.

I can usually win a few matches against people that are obviously better than me. But I ran into this Seth that handed my ass to me on a platter. I lost my composure after 6 or 7 matches so I had to switch to a diff char to beat him once. But for the life of me I could not play with Ryu against him.

The biggest things I noticed that were that he’d throw sonic booms and then do the wall jump in. If i blocked it, he’d jump back and FP. I was trying to counter dp the wall jumpins, but was a little too nervous and kept screwing up.

Now that I’m not playing, I’m thinking I should have put a lot more pressure on his Seth. Any suggestions?

I believe I was the one who brought up dhalsim in the aks thread…

This works against sims who want to low fierce you as you land, but couldn’t they just roundhouse you out of the air as you jump over the fire?

Next time imma try to jumping roundhouse over the fireball (trade or beat his stretch anti-air), then srk as I land. Bases covered.

Ok, this seem to be the right thread for my question. Please excuse me if it’s not.

I’ve found some good tips on most of my weaker match-ups, but was unable to find the same amount of info about the Ryu vs. Seth match-up.

Any tips on this match-up will be appreciated!

they cant counter the jump. You just need to space and time it properly. Itworks everytime for me.
