c.lk was the original normal that this was discovered for. The c.lk just needs to be thrown out with the right timing for it. I’m not surprised that it works for other normals as well. But I think doing it with c.lk is probably easier.

^ if you have a turbo function just record the opponent with turbo teching on. Then kncok them down with whatever, dash in and practice your stuff. You can also do it just by combos though. So, for instance, the combo C.LP > C.MP is exactly the same as the blockstring to get 2 frames gap (hence catching mashers). If you know the timing for linking from C.LP then you can time your traps (same thing just put a very slight delay after the input you would use for combo). hope that makes sense.

Basically they are pretty much the same as combos, so learn your combo timings and then just look at the frame data. so for instance, if you learn the combo C.MP > C.MP then you also know another 2 frame gap.

Catching a techer also depends on how quickly after your tick they start to tech.

If you think they just start mashing early, then link combos are generally all you need.

If it’s a little while after, than you have to delay by a small amount. This can’t really be trained without a 2nd player. If a 2nd player is available, setting the training dummy to player input and just playing with block strings and tick throws can get you some experience on how this plays out.

So if you don’t catch them, then they probably aren’t teching early enough. (Or they’re just blocking.) You can try something like c.lp, c.mk for a 3 frame gap. Or add a manual delay. Maybe stand or walk forward for an instant to try and trigger a tech mash.

For crouch techs in particular, the most reliable tech trap ryu has is blocked c.lp, EX tatsu or blocked c.mp, EX tatsu. (Note that it’s linked. Not cancelled.) If they do the basic OS tech on the very first frame possible, which is definitely not the smartest thing to do, then you will be hit out of it. If they try it at all afterwards, then they will be caught. That is, unless they tack on a non-low normal to the crouch tech, and that normal isn’t too slow. (Such as c.lp+lk+mp.)

Other options include possibly dangerous invincible normals.

There’s no one right way to do this. (Unless they are predictable and do it the same way every time. This is extremely common. I can tell you that I still do it sometimes.)

Frame traps are not the only ways to deal with techs. You can play range games and try to get them to whiff it and then punish.

If they figure you out that you only throw after a certain tick string or at a certain range, then they might not even try to tech. So keep that in mind as well.

But, it seems character specific?

Only landed on Guile & Sakura.
Tested on Ryu & Ken as well, and nothing.

I have a lot of success with tick throw online , but not so much success when I do a block string then walk to grab.
I guess a lot of people are mashing Options Select tech or are they reacting seeing me walking…

I guess I have to fix this in my game as sometimes my walking too grab is way to obvious. Bad habit you develop playing
weakers players. It seem like Daigo can walk to grab and not have anybody push any buttons :slight_smile:

I suppose I have to work my frame trap first then set up future walk to grab.

It’s not necessarily a bad thing if they tech that throw. Next time do the same block string, walk forward for a frame or two, then start walking backwards. You’ll never get in range to get thrown, and if they were teching standing up, you can punish them. If they were crouch teching, you’re back at footsies range which isn’t a bad thing. Can also walk back and dp if you want to spend two bars and you think they’ll crouch tech.

edit: I also got that U2 combo to work on Sakura. Didn’t try anyone else. Would be interesting if you could do it to everyone, just took different strings for different characters to get the perfect spacing.

Does combo into U2 do a lot more damage than into U1? I know this is a noob question but I have never even tried using U2 LOL. If its possible to combo into it from a FB I might take a quick look. Still think its probs just a shit ultra though, sadly :frowning:

I only got it to work once. Think it did 380 on a scaled(no life) dummy. I don’t think any of the combos will do a ton of damage. U2 scales even on a combo like j.hp, U2(does the same dmg as just U2).

How do you get rufus’ ex messiah to whiff the last hit on wakeup?

I’ve seen it talked about here, and I saw it in the GFs of evo, but I can’t get it to work in training mode for the life of me

Is it a specific timing?

On Guile, I also got…
cr.lp, cr.lp, cr.mk xx fb, fadc, u2 (402dmg)

The previous combo got 470dmg.
Both tested on both full revenge meter and health dummies.

cross-up tatsumaki —> ex tatsumaki (mid screen)

works vs Ryu, ken and others…around 20% dmg. average 4 hits.

if somebody has a tool assisted thingy to try it out against the whole cast, it would be cool :slight_smile:

So, I was reading around and I couldn’t find the official post, but the ordeal is regarding how “Ono feels the [SF World Warriors] are too strong and can simply use fireballs and we want to tone that down”. So for arcade edition his fireballs gonna get nerfed?

How it is now, I think it should get buffed somewhat, it’s already a big risk to do it, and a lot of characters can punish it. Cody and ibuki can easily counter it with Zonk Knuckle and teleport ->anything, for example (ibuki being a more drastic one).

With Shoryuken being extremely low priority now, and losing on trades, I’m pretty annoyed at how Ryu is right now, and to nerf him again?

In my opinion, this is all because of what Daigo does with him, and the director only sees that.

(Oh and did I mention the tatsu nerf?)

seriously… Ryu’s FBs are not that good anyway. They are a hell of a risk and unless you use them wisely you will get killed for it. If Daigo can win using FBs its because the mans a genius and knows when the opp is gonna jump or w.e. Man… imma be focking pissed if this is actually true.

wonder if Guiles boom will be nerfed if this is true? inside 2.5 he beats Ryu’s FB so why not…?

Yeah. I dropped him and then came back just cause I really like the character itself. I play Thawk and it’s just not the same…he seriously needs either a better fb or better srk. Dagio is the only one who uses him that good and it’s the PLAYER not the character. Why don’t the director’s see it?

He’s doing 5-0, and 10-0 a few days ago among the sets with the best players in the world. When you’re that good your character is less of a factor.

Watching the video, Daigo did a closerange Cmk canceled to Hado and was punished by sweep on block of the Hado. MID-SCREEN. You know it’s WORSE in the corner for Ryu cause there’s no pushback? Hado has something like 40+ frames of recovery.

See Daigo for how good he is, don’t judge Ryu by how Daigo does with him. Ryu is mid at best.
