tatsu on hit will push them further. It’s good when you want to get out of the corner and the opponent gives you a free punish or you want to push them towards the corner from midscreen. Very good pressure tool because the screen position plays a factor.
cancel srk has its place to so its not like tatsu will always be better. For instance, if someone is in the corner there’s no need to tatsu them back into it so you can do combo, cancel LP SRK, ultra if you have one.
there are other subtle factors but thats primarily the reasoning.
Ah thanks very much for this. More and more I wish there was range data…i.e. it would give the range that every move had along with how much it pushed you back or pushed them forward. It would clear up things like this and also provide a way to truly calculate what combos are possible or not.

I just tested it against another Ryu… it doesn’t work :(. You get pushed back too far from the Towards + MP for the crouch jab to connect. I am trying to see if crouch Strong or crouch Forward willc onnect, but I doubt it, they are too slow.
However I will look at what characters this does work on. If it works on Sagat, Zangief, Balrog, M.Bison, Dhalsim or Blanka I would be happy, as those are hard match-ups and anything that provides another damage opportunity would be well worth it. Sagat and Gief have big hit boxes, so I can see this working on them.
FYI the combo I am referring to is Towards + MP (overhead), crouch Jab, crouch Medium Kick xx EX Hado.
The timing is tight, although it’s a little bit more relaxed if you make the Towards + MP hit as a meaty on wakeup.
I think it was stated above that fwd+mp 2nd hit, ex srk was a combo but is the risk reward on that worth it? Really wish fwd+mp 2hits, c.lp, c.mk was a combo on every character :sad:
also I have a question about AA focus with ryu. If you get an AA focus, you can get some fucking retarded life. AA FC on counter hit, dash fwd, fwd+fp, c.lp, c.fp, tatsu which is like 35%ish for AA. I’m new to using the focus properly and correct me if I’m wrong but doesn’t a jump in throw counter the AA focus? and if thats true, the issue becomes if focus AA is even worth it to begin with. You could have always done a shoryuken for AA and get the guaranteed life.
I’ve been watching those daigo video’s and I don’t see him use AA focus all that much. He does AA thats guaranteed almost every time.
Is it just me or does it seem like ryu’s c.jab, c.jab is out of control? Its hit confirmable into c.mk, ex FB. There’s also c.jab, c.jab, srk etc… on block its a throw setup and you can add a counter to teched throw with c.lp, c.lp, walk fwd to fake throw, s.fp\c.fp, FB\ex FB. If you don’t want to dump bar, c.jab, c.jab combo’s into c.rh for mad easy KD. There’s also the fact that c.jab, c.jab puts ryu in prime positions for his gameplay. You can slide them back for FB\DP stuff. You can c.jab, c.jab, walk fwd, c.jab, c.mp, c.mk and work an extend sequence. I watched daigo do c.jab, c.jab, fwd+fp, c.jab, walk fwd, c.mp, walk back c.mk. Its like it sets up everything for him automatically. Oh yea, c.lk, c.jab, link shoryuken, dash cancel ultra is so hit confirmable.
oh yeah, to do the FADC>ultra you dont have to hold MP+MK, you can just tap it and then quickly tap ff after that :tup:

I’d do it myself but I currently don’t have the game available to me (360 got red rings -_-) and it seems like a nice addition to the classic BnB combo.

The main difficulty with this combo is that it can turn into cr HP --> Hadoken or Super if not done correctly.
To make sure you don’t miss this one, there are two methods:
f, d + HP, df + P (f= forward, d= down)
or
cr. HP, f, d, df + P
1st of all make sure you stop at df and don’t press on forward, and on the second possible input make sure you go from down (or down-back) to Neutral to forward.

df+hp (c.hp), quick db, df+any p.
If you are crouching and blocking (db), then:
df, db, df+any p
you are actually also putting in the down (d) when rapidly going between db and df, which is the way to do it. Don’t try to get neutral in between those.

No, EX SRK does less damage than HP Shoryu.
The best damaging special move Ryu has is actually his Hurricane Kick. The problem is that he travels for so long when using a HK Hurricane, an opponent can quick rise and get you if you use in some combos. Still MK Hurricane is a good tool to use to build damage and stun.
EX Shoryu should be used primarily as a guaranteed anti-air. For example in the Balrog (Boxer) match-up, his Jump in Roundhouse is god like. EX SRK is one of the few things that will stuff it clean.

What’s the best combo to punish a blocked srk? I’m using c.HP xx HP SRK cause it’s simple and easy to do, but I want something that does more damage and that is also simple cause my execution it’s not that great.

Well your combo is perfectly acceptable, does good damage and is easy to do. So there isn’t anything wrong with it.

f+MP (2 hits or 1 hit)xxLP shoryuken > FADC Ultra is a combo. Works on most characters (think all but not sure).
Punishing a shoryuken (other than Ken’s LP shoryu) I do f. FP>cl. MK > FP Shoryu or cr.FP> Shoryu if i have to dash to punish it.
I saw a guy do cr. LK, cr. LP, cl. MKxxLP shoryu>Ultra against a cornered sagat. No meter or anything it was pretty sexy.

No I mean ultra. The guy didn’t do ANY CANCEL it was in the corner against sagat and he hit cr. LK, cr. LP, cl. MKxxlp shoryuken > than LINKED an ultra gonna mess with it when i get home.

The trick is when you do cr. LK, cr. LP the cr. LP must be Linked (so slightly delayed) than you can just do dp+P and get a shoryuken.
I like doing cr. LK, cr. LP, cr. LP cuz the LP to LP link is easier and more time to verify and if i want to mix it up with cr. FP on the 3rd hit my Rhythm doesn’t have to change.
