Video tutorial on how to do ryu’s option select jab DP to completely shut down rufus and bison’s wake-up options. REALLY USEFUL. thanks to MagnetoManiac for making this video
After EX hado, if he does a fireball at the same time, I will start dashing (don’t wait for the fireball to hit - just know when it will). Even if he techs, I’m still going to be within c.mk range.
The main way I deal with yoga fire, hp is to just keep doing fireballs at max range. When I’m planning to throw another fireball, I take note if he’s still at max range, or if he’s managed to move forward a bit. If he moved forward, I will usually do a focus attack. If he does s.hp, let go and you will hit him - even if it doesn’t crumple, you did some damage, and get to backdash back to max range. Max range it feels like Ryu has the advantage.
The trouble is when you get close to the corner, and you’re between max range and close-range - both mid+long range is where dhalsim wants you to be, and where ryu doesn’t. Stay max until you’re ready to make your move all the way in (this can even just be one psychic HK tatsu).
You HAVE to play patiently at max range to create an opening, you can’t just start moving in. That’s the most important part.
Lot’s of matches you can use both. Use some meter in the first round, but still end it with a bit…one stock or so. You’ll end up with super near the end of the second round.
Don t take it bad, but I think this kind of strategy will not work against good dalshim.
as soon as you focus they will use lp lk or mp mk instead of hp. this move will recorver very fast so if you dash in they can recorver and pres you again with more st lk , or mp.
at max range yoga ire give more ex than hado so they will have ex and super fatser.
plus it s easy to close the distance as after lp yoga fire they can sweep( df mk one) and yoga fire again. i you counter with hado they recorver faster and have a free hp at this distance, if you spam hado before they yoga fire they can jump over it and HP you from far…
personnaly i play this match up at 4/5 range( not max range)
I will go just out of dalshim hp distance and try to play there.
you can counter some far move with jump mp, cr mp.
if he yoga fire you can answer fast with hado or just walk back( back dash a lot during this fight).
having super is important because if they puch you in the corner they can t spam yoga fire and can t jump back hp. so you can stay crouch guarding all day long if you have super and enough good reaction timing to punish yoga fire.
but it s still dificult match up I think, for sure being patient is really important. even with 10 second left no need to rush one attack will make a good come back
I facing some good dalshim, and I really still have trouble with this match up.
finally once you get in they keep guarding and unthrow 90 % of your throw…you really feel like something is wrong with this match up.
also never do a cross up ( except one with tatsu) when they wake up, they will just teleport at the opposite corner( instead of teleport not so far)
even knowin this still have trouble with him( with el fuerte and chun li ( a little bit less dictatore latelly)) they are the 3 match up that I still have trouble to manage
I prefer to figh master and grand master sagat than a 25 KBP dalsim
The situation I described is at JUST inside max range. His s.hp is the only thing that will hit me.
Well,
A) i don’t care about ex yoga fire because it’s so slow
B) i can throw more hadokens than he can throw yoga fire, so I come out ahead on meter
C) he relies much more heavily on super than I do, so he is less likely to use EX
Again, I’m only talking about max range. If he does a yoga fire from mid range while I’m doing nothing, then yes that’s a horrible situation for Ryu. I generally play chicken with his jump or poke until eventually neutral jumping the fire (nj.mp rules against limbs), or else I’ll start running away until I get to a place where I can safely throw a hadoken and get back momentum.
If he’s throwing yoga fire while I’m hadokening, then the situation I described in my last post works fine.
His s.hp can hit you from like one step in from max range… I think you are describing playing at max range.
Kinda, but do NOT answer yoga fire with hado anywhere but max range, you will eat s.hp every time
they can never spam yoga fire because of HK tatsu being such an incredibly big threat. I’d rather land HK tatsu than super most of the time because it gets me exactly the positioning I want. Crouch guarding is interesting with a super, I’ll have to try that - but it seems he can play games with jumps, doing j.hp at the last second vs teleporting over super.
If they’re teching that many throws, you are not creating an effective mixup on offense. Try to use more FA and f+hp
I wouldn’t say never - if I am pushed into the corner and land a sweep, it’s a great time for a crossup.
just wanted to say that doing hadouken at max range / out of his s.hp range is safe if Ryu is the one that does it first, if dalshim the one that does the yoga fire first, there is a chance that you still can get hit by sim’s s.hp as this is what i did sometimes :
ryu is out of sim’s s.hp reach, i throw yoga fire first, ryu did hadouken, i did a crouching forward+lk (slides forward) this will put sim’s in range to do a s.hp
and i personally likes to cross up a sims that is down, cause even if they teleport they either teleport back way or next to you, and they cannot attack since they didn’t do it on the air so you have time to either hit them or get close and sim is not too strong on close battle
i wish i could see you playing against soe strong dalshim , sabin etc etc. I could see how you manage this kind of match up as even when I see umehara or other strong ryu playing against good dalshim it s still very dificult match up.
I know that…
I also know that I saw him losing quiet often this match up…
And I can tell from looking the way He played it that there is no solution, it s just about your capacity to take small advantage starting from a opportunity.
may be ex hado will create this small opportunity…
just for exemple the only money match he lost during evo was against 1 sagat( we all know he is top tier) and against sabin s dalshim… NO insult to sabin, but at least it show that even daigo lose to dalshim when he is played the proper way ( he also should have lose against iyo during world final, without that shoryu into super from opposite side… )
I wish you could watch sabin against ichi now trf live, first round perfect , secound round 1 hado on guard… ichi is master with ryu, 98% of ryu player will never be master with ryu believe me…
I’m not going to pretend I’m better than Sabin, I’ve played against him and lost. I also am not saying the match is a Ryu advantage - it’s still very hard to get in. I’m trying to highlight Ryu’s best options and why they’re good.
Why are you assuming the matchup should be easy? If the matchup is even you will LOSE half the time. So Daigo lost a couple times, so what? That’s what happens in an even matchup, you lose just as much as you win. Also I believe Sabin said that he has trouble against Fuudo’s Ryu.
He was known as one of the best Ken players, but he recently switched to Ryu. Maybe it’s too early to call him a Ryu master although he’s already proven to be very good with him. He just won the last TRF event.
