Keep practicing the links in training mode, but realize that landing them in a match is more about that first hit. In a match, you need to time those links perfectly, but you also, usually, have to time that first hit perfectly to sneak in between a couple pokes or to punish someone. Just calm down and look for those openings, eventually, you’ll start hitting them and finishing combos.
Oh pad…just saw that in the quote lol. Was going to say the best thing you can do is learn to do it faster.
Buffering might be a better option. If you anticipate them jumping, you can input the srk on the d-pad, then press punch if they jump or not press it if they don’t jump.
Does anybody have any links to videos of ryu combos starting with the f.mp overhead? I looked around in the videos section and the tutorial, but I didn’t see anything or I missed it.
u cant link anything after it. ur at 0 frame advantage. best advice is back dash, or block. if your feeling lucky go for a sweep, or a c.mk xx hodoken.
It’s -2 frames on block and +3 on hit(I think +4 on standing opponent). So, if you hit them crouching, you have frame advantage, if you hit them standing, you can link a srk(if you’re close).
the over head f+mp(collar bone breaker) dude, not the f+hp(solar plexus strike).
edit: nvm lol u can. its a 1frame link. and its kinda tough. i didnt know that.
I believe he knows what he’s talking about. He’s correct. You can SRK a f.mp only on standing opponents.
Edit : Or on counter-hit on a crouched opponent on the SECOND hit not the first, first one has to whiff.
i corrected myself. i tested it out. i tried doing it before when it never worked(cuz i was not good at the game at the time . i edited my pervious post. so no need to get bitchy on my answered since i admitted i was wrong.
You can also link the Super after the F+MP overhead. I guess it’ll only work on standing opponents like the SRK. I’ve never tried it on a crouching CPU in training mode but now I’m curious.
Yes! Im apart of the Ryu Army
Wow, are there any clips of your Ryu? I’m sure it’d be pretty unique! Or of your Evo Cammy for that matter??!
Congrats on Evo BTW!
All right, I’m having trouble integrating Ryu’s FA into my game. I realize that I’m still playing at a pretty scrubby level, so what I do mostly is try and pull off a lvl 3 after I get a knockdown, and hope they eat the unblockable. Other than that, I’m a noob in the woods.
When should I be throwing out FA’s, and what are the best situations and setups for connecting them.
Thanks for your time.
Well the level 3 FA attack on wakeup sometimes does work, however most of the time it’ll miss due to an opponet throw/jump/armor break move, or your miss timing. But if you want to keep using it, you have to mix it up with dash cancels, wither forward for the throw, or backwards for the bait.
Using it as an anti air is still weird to me, most of the time the opponet can just use a special to break it, but it does work from tie to time.
You could use it in the middle of block string to try and catch a counter poke and get the crumple that way, although its risky.
Other than that, you’ll use them in the shoryu -> FADC -> ultra, or after a hadoken to create a longer combo such as cr.mk -> hado -> FADC -> cr.mk -> tatsu, among other variations.
I would love so much to care
Yeah, I’m aware of the cancel uses for it, but the thing is, I’m stuck with a pad and it’s a bit awkward to perform the cancels. I tend to forget I even have the Focus Attack at all. I was hoping to try to integrate it into my play more often and just get used to using it.
Once I’m fully comfortable with the FA, I bet FADC’s will come more naturally to me.
Use it as an offensive tool - kinda similar to the application of f+hp (even though f+hp has its own uses as well). If you have them in a corner, option-select a c.lk c.lp which is blocked, and charge a FA. Either let go quickly or charge it up - both are viable - but you’re hoping to catch them in a counter-poke for a big-damage crumple.
Thank you SiYkO, that helps very much. I’ve been using f+hp usually to punish big openings, as a meaty wakeup, or as a part of blocked cr.lk, cr.lp, f+hp, then either srk to stuff the counterpoke, or throw if they block.
That gives me a bunch of options then. Thanks again.
That’s awesome Sanford! I hope you’ll post in this forum from time to time and help us us and coming Ryu’s. The champ is here! Haha.
good shit man gratz on mvc2 and welcome to the ryu forum
