Ryu General Discussion Thread: Frame Data, Strategies, Combos, etc

Digital, don’t mind if I add you to my psn? I could use a teacher.

I need some tips on cr. jab, cr. jab xxx shoryuken.

I use the traditional method (can’t get the shortcut to work whatsoever) and my execution is around just 25%.

I tried turning on turbo on jab and it turns out you can hit this even if the jabs are chained. I use the z-motion and it does work but only 25% of the time.

Any tips on getting this? Either nothing will come out or I will get Super. I suppose in a real match, if it’s either SRK or a hit-confirmed super, it isn’t so bad right?

not sure why you have a problem. the exact notation I use is : c.jp, d/f + c.lp, d, d/f + FP. Try that, I guess. have you been waiting until the second jab to hit Z-motion SRK? cause you probably dont have enough time if you are. Try beginning the stick motion for SRK during the second jab. The reason I use the shortcut for this is to avoid a s.lp whilst being able to mash it out.

as for the super instead of SRK, that would cause issues. Imagine if you were winning round 1 by a mile and had full super. You only need SRK to win the round, but super comes out. Sure, you win the round, but you lose a major advantage in the super.

Your super is coming out due to the negative edge of pressing P for your SRK. If you can avoid pressing F after your Z or DF,DF motion then your super won’t come out.

Another bad thing that happens (which happens to me all the time since I have the same problem) is that when your SRK doesn’t come out in time and doesn’t combo and your super still comes out. You would have wasted full meter on chip when the super is very easy to land on its own.

what i do is 1lp,1lp, 3 1 hp but ur holding down the whole time…seem to work for me like 95% of the time…wondering if anyone else has tried that but it’s weird i have more trouble with cr lp,cr lk, hdp so i rather jus do lp lp dp isn’t it the same?

Yeah, I was inputting the DP after the jabs. Thanks for your tip to buffer it, it’s worked wonders.

I found a very interesting way to land a super by Daigo, fast forward it to 1:40, he uses a standard hadoken to bait a FADC then instantly super’s, not realy sure how easy this would be to do as surely it needs some pretty mad timing? (or no worse than a normal hit confirm?)

Either way I thought it was interesting, never saw it used before and looked flashy too!

 1. For those of you who p-link do you also have problems linking cr. jabs into cr. foward. About 40% of the time, I get cr. short instead. I know this means I’m not p-linking correctly as a short is never supposed to come out at all.

 2. Character specific hit-boxes mess me up alot - I haven’t learned all of them. My BnB is cr. short, cr. jab, cr. fierce xxx rh tatsu. Some character will allow you to crossup with this, and others the cr. fierce will whiff. Non-crossup, some characters like ZA and DH, you can add an extra jab. I also notice Abel has a strange hitbox in that if you cr. short, cr. jab x2, the 2nd jab will whiff. I believe he’s the only character with this sort of hit-box.

Add me up man. Just be sure to say you’re from srk in the message.

Digital dude; are you going to join the team training?

Maybe. I haven’t read that thread yet I’ll check it out. I mostly play Viper nowadays though, but you guys could probably use a Viper sparring partner.

Stupid question, how do you guys know what the frames are to look for? I have never figured out how to do this.

Anyone got any advice that would help the transition from walking into a c.mk, hadoken? I keep accidentally doing walking into c.mk, srk. Big difference when you wiff:(

let the stick go to neutral for a bit before doing it. Annoying, but afaik that’s the only way around it.

I just hold down for a tiny little bit longer. It’s slightly tricky, but pretty easy once you get it down. That way seems better than going to neutral because you can do the low forward immediately.

when im doing the c.mk > hado( or ex hado) i do this. walk forward > :db: c.mk > :qcf: + :p: thats how i do it.

Even this doesn’t really work without a pause.

There are two ways I got to do it, both of them surprisingly difficult.

2+mk 5236+p - make sure you don’t graze downforward with this or you will get SRK or even super.

2+mk 41236+p - similar to above (you’ll probably graze neutral before the hcf). This has to be done really fast to get the earliest possible cancel, so it’s harder than it looks.

Oh I thought you meant stop walking forward and then wait a little bit. So yeah you’re first way could also get an immediate low forward, but it seems more difficult than just holding down for a split second. That last method seems far too complicated when you can just do other easier things.

I guess a few people I know who also main Ryu had no idea that you could link a short tatsu into a super outside of a corner.

This works from any distance

I’ve been practicing this a bit. Theres 2 ways of going about it:

 1. Do a lp.haduken from almost full screen, watch for the hit confirm. The instance you see hit confirm you hp.super and it will combo the haduken + super. By the time the lp.haduken hits your opponent, you’ve recovered.

2)If your opponent focus attacks a haduken, you can also hp super. This may not combo, but the timing is more lenient. Pretty cool ways of landing super.
