Since the top players have already had a go at super sf4, do you think they will be switching their characters in super sf4?
Can you see Daigo shifting to another character because srk is now 2 hit and trade ultra no longer works?
What about the clutter of Sagat players in the Japanese scene like Mago, do you see him switching?
What character does Justin Wong main? I’ve seen him use Rufus/Boxer/Fei Long but I’m not sure who he mains or is good with every character?
Y’all swear like they drastically changed ryu to the point of no recognition. Daigo will still play ryu, trade into ultra isn’t a big deal because no one can trade into ultra now
I still think Daigo will stick with Ryu, not sure about all the Sagat players out there tho. Not being able to trade into Ultra is a much bigger nerf for Sagat then it is for Ryu simply because of the damage output. I think the 2 hit srk might be a good think for Ryu seeing that focus attacks are supposed to be much quicker in super sf4 so being able to break focus with a srk might be a big advantage. I’m not sure about the frame data on the srk, people are still guessing so its no point jumping to conclusions. Hopefully if you hit an opponent with a fierce AA srk whilst Ryu is grounded it should beat the jumpin cleanly. I wasnt a fan of the srk trade Ultra anyway so it wont make a difference to me. I’ve heard that they have toned down Ultra damage generally and have increased damage done by Supers. I think there trying to make the game more offensive and want people to use Supers/ex meter more rather then sitting on ex meter simply to land an Ultra.
All this talk about Dudley/makota etc. being S tier, I dont know what to make of it. The original characters have been refined based on over a years worth of feedback by players so any broken/over powered characters can be fixed. The returning characters on the other hand have not had this chance to be tested by general public so one of them could turn out to be OP/broken.
Thats quite suprising. I thought players would stay loyal to their characters rather then jumping to the best character available in the new release. The thing is tho, when a game is newly released, the tier list starts from zero, i.e. a tier list hasnt been collated, therefore how would anybody know which character is going to be S tier?
Loyalty? Nah, the best players play with the best characters so that they can win. If anything Daigo is simply loyal to the shoto archetype, but even that is not because so sentiment/honor/etc, but because of the fact that he has so much experience with that play style that even if they weren’t at the very top he’d still do better with them than other characters.
Daigo has experience in owning with Ryu, Ken, Gen, Guy, Rog, Gat, Gou, possibly more. He’ll play whatever is fun/good. Dudley has an SRK, I wouldn’t count him out of the realm of possibility since his ultra setups are a lot like ryus, if shotos aren’t high tier.
from the sounds of things, there may be just enough of a ryu uproar for bums to jump ship. maybe enough for me to play him without being grouped in with the rubbish
Haha, yes, the DP nerf makes the vortex better. Demon flip on wakeup is a secondary part of the vortex that is only good on certain chars (Gouken, lol) and can cause you to eat reversal Ultras in a lot of cases. Most good players will use either a Safe Jump into crouching short (throw tech OS), crossup tatsu (with an OS to catch backdashing), or regular jumpin HK. Demon flip shenanigans can be good too, but the real vortex puts you right back into the vortex more often than not.
It’s going to be nice not getting hit by Ryu’s back shoulder (LP SRK) when you are late with your jump into crossup tatsu by a frame or two…
You guys should see the Sagat thread. People are openly declaring they’re leaving Sagat for Dudley already. They’re at each other’s throats over there.
Sure he has experience using other characters but his specialty lies mainly in the shoto archetype. Ken wasn’t even top tier in 3S and yet he prefer to use him simply because it fits his playstyle better, he’s a shoto specialist.
I can see him switching to one of the “other shotos” if ryu gets beaten down with the nerf stick bad enough - most likely ken since he seems to be getting buffed.
What else did they nerf of ryu? Does the first hit of his SRK knockdown? Or do both hits have to connect for a knockdown?
Ken was not in the highest tier in 3s. Yun/chun is debatable, but hopefully theres no one stupid enough to think Ken is on the same plateau as those 2. Japan tier listings even had him 4th behind makoto at some points.
this. seriously, Ken not top tier?
For the record yes Daigo usually sticks to shotos. IIRC he played a lot of Akuma and Ryu in A3, played Ryu (with Guile as second) in ST, played Ken in 3S and plays what is the most shoto like character IMO in GGX. That probably has more to do with the japanese tradition of picking a character and sticking to him.
If Dudley is as good as people are making out and he has a good ant air and throws projectiles then I look forward to fighting him with my Ryu in SSFIV.
I’d love to see Dan move up the tier list, the guy was used as the training dummy for god sake in sf4, I think its time he took his revenge for taking all those beatings in training/trial mode!
