Since Ryu is seen by many as a standard character, what would be the best way to go about learning him? What combos would you say are most important to learn, etc.
Well the most important things to learn are zoning and footsies,you have to learn which pokes you have to deal with each characters pokes,where it is safe to throw a fireball against each character and things of that nature.Also you have to learn to capitalize on your opponents mistakes ,whether that be jumping in on you or doing something highly punishable.You also have to learn his safe jump set-ups,as when you land an untechable knockdown you will want to apply pressure and mixups.

Solar plexus combos are his biggest source of damage but due to the slow startup of the move can only be landed when the opponent does a very unsafe move,you land a focus crumple,or you guess right when throwing one out to try to catch something.A longer list of combos can be found HERE
There is a lot to learn with Ryu.mostly becuase he can do everything at an average level,so you have to learn everything.To do well as Ryu you have to have strong fundamentals,and a great understanding of the game.A lot of this will come with experience.

you’ve got to to know when to throw out just c.mk on its own or c.mk tatsu also cause everybody knows about the c.mk xx hadou and if they block the c.mk they can focus crumple the hadou or in guiles case, simply flash kick through the fireball. I’d say using c.mk, throw teching and AA’ing effectively is required before learning combo’s.

Can someone explain the different properties of each shoryuken? For instance when is it invincible and how do some people manage to stuff a wake up shoryuken?

all dps 3 frame startup
low dp no invincibility - 100 damage (best dp to combo dp fadc into). Also you can trade dp ultra with it. First so many active frames (i have no clue but its short) on hit will keep you grounded.
medium dp - invincible up and including its first active frame - 130 dmg (80 + 50). This is why jab dp is better. 100 fadc vs 80 fadc
fierce dp - one hit only, 160 damage, gotta hit it within 2 active frames (i think?) to get full damage or its garbage. AA with fierce unless you are comboing into ultra. In this case, you need to use middle because of the invincibility frames. If you’re losing damage, get better timing. And of course, you cant fadc out of it.
I’m pretty sure i know how the juggle system works but I’m not going to spout off on it. mp dp picks up a hit that the other 2 don’t.
