Done.
I await my future quiz.
great games 2night.
thanks to 1handed terror, L2 president - Kryo, UTJ, and Moval for the tips.
can’t wait till evo… cya guys there!
Thanks to everyone there for an awesome session last night. Good games to all. I felt like that session really helped a lot. Everyone was very helpful and nice, which only makes me regret not coming on earlier dates.
From what I saw last night, we should all do very well at EVO. I, for one, will not be losing to any damn 'Sims, that’s for sure (thanks for the help on that matchup).
Good luck to all at EVO!
I’ll be there tonight and tomorrow night.
Anyone else going to be here tonight or tomorrow as well?
Edit: Fuck it, I’m going to Lan Center right now.
GG’s last night. Nice setup but the big machines are all laggy so they are not playable.
^I think it’s because of controllers and not actually the hdtv. It was fine about a month or two ago before they build the cabinets.
My buddy Oscar just showed me this thread. Anybody heading out there today? Tuesday the 14th. I was back up in Nor Cal for about three weeks and need some work bad before evo.
lemme guess… Valle’s setup was lag free, right?
What if I told you that anything without a “picture tube” has lag?
And that Valle’s setup has the same amount of lag as the big TV’s?
Your input will come out on the 3rd frame on both setups… but lets assume you only play on older TV’s (picture tube/CRT) which means your input arrives on the 2nd frame. Which means that there’s a 1 frame difference between the two.
An exceptionally, “godlike” reaction time would be about .1 of a second. Each frame is about .017
So in closing you’re saying that a theoretical frame difference of 1 frame which equals .017 of a second renders the game unplayable for you. Which also means that in reality Valle’s setup should be unplayable as well considering it has .017 second of lag versus a traditional CRT. (picture tube TV)
Dude… you are definitely doing the wrong activities if your reaction time is within .034 (initial frame + 1 frame of lag) of a second.
Granted that most big TV’s have a lot of lag but mine don’t. And if .017 second makes it unplayable… shrug I guess this is a classic case of “you can’t please everyone”
For what it’s worth the PC monitors here have the fastest response time clockin’ in with less than 1 frame lag
So to recap:
1 frame = 17ms
17ms and under, 2nd frame result
34ms and under, 3rd frame result
51ms and under, 4th frame result… etc
CRT TV’s: 0ms / input comes out on the second frame
PC monitors: 16ms / input comes out on the 2nd frame
Valle’s setup: 19ms / input comes out on the 3rd frame
Big setups: 32ms/ input comes out on the 3rd frame
To say that the big TV’s aren’t “playable” because of .017 of a second is a bit much.
Will, it probably has lag like a lot of people are saying because of the joystick setup. Certain boards have lag on certain tv’s. I played at a tournament once with my friends dual modded stick and it lagged on a certain tv, but was fine at my house. i think there was something posted around on srk about it a while back.
P.S. Heading there now.
This math has a serious flaw, you’re assuming that the input sampling rate is once every 17ms (1 frame) which is untrue.
if frame 1 occurs at 0 ms and I input a command at 13ms (still frame 1):
-On the evo setup (valle’s tv) I get 19 ms of lag which comes out to be 32ms == 3rd frame “result”
-On your setup I get 32 ms of lag which comes out to be 45 ms == 4th frame “result”
Just because the TV output works at 1 frame/17ms doesn’t mean your input does. I also think there there is some lag on the controllers but I don’t know why or how that works.
I’ll be there tomorrow (Wednesday) to practice SC4 and to scrub it up on SF4.
my 2 cents: the arcade setups feel fine when i use my own stick on it. i only notice the lag when i’m using the built in sticks.
sf4 today anyone?
Mirror matches are fun. What time are you planning on going?
who’s goin tonight. if anyone wants to play against a decent sim i might go depending on who goes.
i’ll probably head over around 7 or 8
dude… that’s like saying my math has a “serious flaw” because I’m not taking into account somebody using a laggy converter.
People aren’t gonna input every command at the same time on each frame… so results will vary every time.
Technically if you input a command on the very last ms on a CRT, your command will come out on the 3rd frame because controller lag is like 1ms or so. So from that standpoint you can say that my math has a “serious flaw” if I say “CRT gaming is lag free.”
last night I asked multiple people if it felt laggy or anything and they said it feels fine.
I had no complaints during the tourney last Sunday either.
Why am I even defending myself here?
If you find our accommodations unacceptable nobody’s forcing you to use them. I really don’t have to stay up till 4:00am… especially when I’m not in the best of health.
Even if EVERYBODY thinks my setups are unacceptable, at least they don’t publicly bash on it… I mean it’s hard not to take that shit personal since I didn’t buy those fuckin’ setups like that.
If .017 of a second is too much lag over the EVO setups at the worst case situation, please feel free to play SF4 elsewhere. AI… Super Arcade… FFA. We’re not forcing you to play here.
I’m not looking for praise or anything but fuck, take other people’s feelings into consideration… especially when we go outta our way to please you guys regardless of the situation.
I don’t think you understand my point. Either way, saying someone’s setup has detectable lag is not “bashing” especially when a statement like that has validity. If people feel like the TVs have lag they have the right to say so, especially in a public forum. No one is making any personal attacks and we all appreciate a public place to play, especially me since I’m a dirty console character user.
