Rumor: Namco vs Capcom and Capcom vs Namco In Development

Is Namco going to be at Comic Con to announce their version?

Excuse my brief off topic, but you have it backwards: !=

lol i can imagine bringing tekken into the sf4 engine but i cant imagine sf characters in the tekken engine.

To all the naysayers of such a union, keep this in-mind. Capcom has overall made DAMN good fighters. Each of the SF series, their Vs. series, etc. If they had their hands on Namco properties, I would be there in a heartbeat. Akuma searching for the evil power of the Soul Calibur blade? I’m in!

For that matter, Namco’s fighters have been pretty damn solid as well. There are plenty of reasons you see Namco fighters in the Evo lineup more so than from other companies. If Namco had Ryu, I’m sure they’d tweak the “Tekken 6” engine and gameplay to both company’s characters a bit to accommodate. Prime example? X-Men vs. Street Fighter. Ryu tossed a fireball in the air?! OMFG!!!

Alls I’m saying is have faith my brothers/sisters if this rumor is true. I mean, it’s not like the rumor is Street Fighter vs Dead or Alive/Capcom vs Tecmo or anything. /shudder

If Harada is making one using the Tekken engine, you could do “Final Atomic Busters” all day without having to fill out a super bar.

Yeah but this game won’t actually be made by Capcom

cough

I didn’t know that Ono worked for Namco

Also, check OP link:

Capcom hasn’t made a good new fighter since 2001, and hasn’t had a fighting game development team since 2004.
Almost every person involved in making the good Capcom fighting games either no longer works for Capcom or no longer works in the business.

Calling Ono a fighting game developer is like calling you a Rhodes Scholar.

I’m just absolutely curious as to how Namco would be able to make the Street Fighter characters truly effective in their “specials” department. I mean, for example here, the Tekken characters would have better chances of being effective in a SF environment due to the nature that you can effectively put their tools in (yes they’ll be completely different from their Tekken counterparts, but they can be made to work). Like Jin’s EWHF can still be made to be effective in SF, DJ’s LaserScraper, etc, etc.

However, what I would want to know is…how do you effectively make things like the Shoryuken, Hurricane Kick, or Hadouken work within a 3-D realm that has Sidestepping/walking? I mean, how do you make Guile’s Sonic Boom be effective? It’s slow movement, quick recovery does great in a 2-D realm, but on a 3-D realm?

I mean, characters like Blanka, Sim, Rog, Claw, Dictator, etc, etc can work within a Tekken realm due to the nature of how they play and their specials, etc, etc, however that leaves the projectile characters.

They will definitely not play anything like their real SF counterparts, however I don’t understand how they’ll be able to make for example Ryu’s special list to become entirely effectively.

Ono is just a producer. This game will be farmed out to a third party just like SF4 was. Capcom doesn’t make fighting games.

Uhh Street fighter 4 was co-developed with Dimps. I believe capcom’s in house studio handled the design and Dimps did the programming. This is nothing new in this industry

OMG So many fighters I wanna play them all but I want to be amazing at just one. So many choices oh well im still going with mvc3 atleast until i see gameplay.

Ooh think about this Nightmare vs Ryu!!!

It’s the first time Capcom farmed out a new SF game to an external developer (HDR doesn’t count) and what a coincidence it sucked balls!

I always used to wonder why COJ gave up the SF license to begin with and sold it to their American counterparts. No doubt been said somewhere, but I didn’t see it.

Yeah and for each decent game they made, they made twice as many shit ones…

Still it doesn’t really matter how much a game sucks these days, people will play it competitively anyway. It used to be the case that even if a game was a mainstream success, at least the competitive scene had the critical faculties to dismiss something that was garbage. Post-SF4 a good 50% of the scene doesn’t even understand what makes a good game (because they’ve never played one) and most of the other 50% are so desperate for something, anything new to play that they’ll grin and bear it no matter how bad it is.

What a waste. I can think of many other series/companies that would be a better fit for crossing over than one who only does 3D games.

This is obviously motivated by sales.

We’ll simply have to wait until the new entries in other fighting franchises are successful before Capcom makes more logical crossovers, I suppose.

But SFIV with Tekken dudes might tide me over until then, I suppose.

Wouldn’t it be cool if their rosters didn’t have any of the same characters. As in Ryu only appeared in one or the other and not both.

As in none of the companies characters were in both games just one or the other.

I really, really, hope so. Though it could be a good game, I just do not feel the franchises mix to terribly well.

I think it’s important to give every new fighting game a chance and see how they shape up at high level.
Of course if they turn out to be crap they should be abandoned, but I don’t agree with your approach to judge games (mvc3 in your avatar, the rumored games on this thread) before giving them their fair chance.
Wait for MVC3 to come out, then wait for it to show it’s true colors, then if it does suck feel free to complain.
