Man just give us something. “Rumble Pack 1.031d Full” is unplayable and now you jumped to another engine…
Just give me a bit longer. I promise that I’ll release the final MUGEN version before the year is out. There’s a bit of a delay because I’ve actually taken your advice. Hex style no longer has its own special parry and the standard parry is a bit more difficult to do and is a bit more rewarding. The new Hex system is currently being tested to make sure it’s the direction I want to go in. I do not want to make any changes to the system after I release it so it must be final before I can make it public.
With regard to the new engine, it’s the direction I’ll be taking the game but I’m not totally abandoning the MUGEN version. I will still continue to create content for it (to an extent). I want to create a more modern game and I need a modern engine to do that. MUGEN is not capable of doing everything I want it to and Elecbyte has dropped off the map again so I can no longer wait for them to catch up. What I have planned though will make the change more than worth it.
Out of curiosity, what makes 1.031d unplayable?
(sorry for my poor english i don’t even have eng. classes in school)
First off, why do you listen to people advices if they don’t played current version of the game (me for example)?
Take your time. I just thought that you’ll jump from one closed beta test to another on another engine.
You’ve done great job so far and if you’ll make a game on engine other than mugen it’ll be awesome.

How do i download this?
Did i miss a link?
Please use that opportunity to revamp the character design. More specifically- swap their heads.
I love seeing someone throw out an original project like this. cute character designs and surprisingly smooth animation! Game looks solid too.
Didn’t miss anything actually. The game is all done and good to go, but I’m waiting on two of my voice actors. I don’t want to release it without all the voices where I want them so there is a slight delay there. A new (conservative) release date is January 8th. It will still be free and I will be issuing patches as time goes on to assure stability and balanced play. There is also a possibility that a few extra characters and stages will be added along the road (time permitting).
Sorry you don’t like the art style. I wont be changing that part though. I knew from the beginning that it would be off-putting to some, but others will be attracted to it simply because of that. I hope you’ll still try the game out though.
Thanks! I’m hoping that the amount of time I have spent balancing this game will live up to everyone’s expectations.
From a guy who couldn’t design a good character to save his life, ha!

From your shit furry lolicon fighter. That ironically SRK trashed for being shit.
“As for personalities, we have most of the big ones covered: Modest but confident protagonist, hot-blooded violent rage rival, Tsundere psychotic, obnoixious cute girl pretending to have class, cold-natured teacher, charismatic yet merciless leader, sadistic jerk, cute effeminate slacker, faithful apologetic military girl, try-hard badass gun-toting priest and so on.”
Your idea of character design is a fucking joke. It’s like you copy pasted all your ideas from some fucking anime tropes site LOL
Lol hello again. You’re everywhere aren’t you?
I am not the character designer of that game though, which, I might add, currently has an engine and is slowly crawling towards completion. I have a hand in moveset/balance design and will be part of community management when it’s closer to completion. There’s also no lolis, in fact, out of the whole cast there is only what…3 female characters?
Mind explaining how SRK ‘trashed’ it too? that thread got a decent amount of positive and intelligent feedback which helped us a lot in our still ongoing design choices.
I expect to see you again once we have more material to show, after which I’ll make a new thread and link to a website. Don’t disappoint me.
(also, I said the character designs were ‘cute’. Which they are. Not that they were the best thing in the world.)
LOL I read this post just after I finished reading Hayama’s “anime fighter” thread. This is really quite silly.
By the way liero, the game looks great, I hope to see more soon.
Once again, I didn’t design those characters. Secondly, none of their actual design in terms of personality is final. We’ve already made several changes over the past few months. For example, we don’t have a tsundere psychotic anymore. It didn’t suit the character’s aesthetic. That thread was also about market reasearch and how to make an IP attractive to new players. One of the ways to do that? Use well-established, existing tropes.
There’s nothing wrong with basing a character’s design around existing, well-known tropes. that’s what they did for pretty much the entire cast of Street Fighter, including the new characters.
Rufus = stupid funny fat guy
C.Viper = cold upper class woman and single mother with a dangerous job
Abel = amnesiac
Juri = nympho psychotic
Seth = I really don’t need to go on
If you do not have certain tropes within an IP, you are missing out on a target audience. It’s especially effective considering that people fond of a certain character type in another series can make the transition easily if they have a personality they identify with. That is the whole reason why many of these tropes exist, and continue to flourish in popular culture.
anyway, this is not a thread for talking about our game. The characters in this game are cute and honest in their design. There’s nothing wrong with that either.
After watching the overview of the mechanics, I’m pretty interested in the game.
However I’m against having a universal parry.
The funny thing is that A LOT has changed since that video was released. I’m actually going to have to take it down and replace it. For example, super moves are now done by pressing all 3 attack buttons and Hex style, no longer has the Reflect or Super Armor thing. Instead, it now has a dodge and a push block.
With regard to the parry, I actually removed it entirely. After consulting my testers (3 of which who were 3rd strike players) they claimed that they had never used it. Apparently, because of the pace of Rumble Pack, it made the parry not worth doing. The addition of the push block was received much better.
They would eventually adapt it, but I support your decision.
This looks pretty neat. Good luck.
I’ve always been a bit iffy about pushblock, since I’m a fan of blockstrings myself. Is your pushblock free like the one in the marvel series, or meter/bar like Blazblue’s shielding? And how severe?
This is an interesting question.
So, to clarify, push blocking is only available in Hex style, meaning that when you are playing against non Hex styled characters, you will not have to worry about it. Hex style is the only style with free style specials (sort of*), however, the timing is not free or guaranteed. What that means is you have into perform the command during the initial hit pause or it will not come out. You’ll actually end up dodging back instead on failed push blocks and you may end up getting hurt for it. You certainly cannot mash push block like you can in Marvel (during multi hit moves). You have to time it correctly.
How severe is the push block, you ask? Distance-wise, it depends on the attack. Weaker attacks are not pushed as far as strong attacks, but expect to be shoved back about half screen. It should also be noted that Hex style (generally) lacks the ability to perform large combos. This is the style catered more towards people who gravitate to characters like M.Bison or Chun Li. Granted Chun Li can do large combos, but they don’t do very much.
*Hex’s style specials drain meter, but do not require it.
Eventually, probably, but it has been in for about 6 months and despite my reworking it constantly, they were ultimately not interested in using it. I am glad you support the decision though!
Thanks a ton!
I do like the idea that weaker attacks are not pushed back as far as strong attacks, since a lot of pressure is done with jabs and such. This means that players will be looking out for certain push block bait attacks that are easy to read. If you give characters a way to fakeout or animation cancel certain slow, heavy attacks, then you got mind games.
