i meant the close st.HP, for far jumps normal stHP works fine but if they cancel on elbow i think it hit u, im not sure at all but as fizzy told u HP is ur best AA in that match,
Close st.HP beats elbow drops directly over your head. f st.HP beats them at the tip of the HP. But elbows spaced in-between have to be cr.mp’d or just usually blocked if you’re looking for HP AA’s.
lol this is super late but a good setup after ultra is to whiff a hp snake strike then go for a divekick, hits really ambiguously.
Edit: Wow i read that completely wrong lol, thought you were asking if bison would be a good alt for rufus. The other way around id say rufus would work alright. Im not super knowledgeable as far as his matchups go but people like guile, ryu, and sagat may still be tough though.
No good Honda or Sim experience yet I’m told Rufus blows these characters up. I’m not kidding when I say I have no clue what to do in either of these matches.
Sim:
I never see anyone air teleport in matches with Justin or Ricky, which leads me to believe it’s super punishable. I get blown up by that shit left and right though.
Should I just focus the normals to get in?
Honda:
Spammed butt slam is super annoying. Is it punishable rather than avoidable?
Once I’m in on both these characters it’s very easy. But dealing with them up to that point is a mystery. Against REALLY good Sims and Hondas, seems like I get lucky or unlucky.
Ah lol. Guile is my main problem, really. Even if I beat Guile with Bison, I’m salty haha. I actually hate fighting Ryu and Sagat (Ryu more). I’m guessing he beats Rog/Honda? Rog I’d say Bison is 5-5, and 6-4 Honda. I personally hate fighting Fei too as Bison. I think as long as I can find an anti-guile character that suits me, I should be fine. The others could be won by playing it safe.
Edit: Oh, you whiff the hp one. I always see random Rufus players doing lp and I’m thinking “Da hell is he doing?”.
I just picked up Rufus. He’s really fun to use, but I’m having trouble with getting settled on a BnB. Am I right in saying that dive kick, LK, MP xx GT does NOT work on many characters?
I’m really not the best at 1 frame links, even if I plink them, so I don’t want to use dive kick, LK, HP xx GT if I don’t have to.
yeah it doesnt work in many chars, i only use it for blanka since the HP doesnt work when hes crouching.
u should use always the bnb with HP, is a must for play rufus and the timing in not that hard.
Yeah the guile mu is better for rufus than bison but thats not saying a lot unfortunately lol. That is actually one of rufus’s worst mus imo, its all about finding that sweet spot where guiles will throw out normals that you can whiff punish with divekicks or just bulldogging your way in (which can be close to impossible). I personally dont like the rog matchu, he beats honda pretty well and does okay against fei when hes not in the corner lol.
guile one of the worst MUs for rufus? i dont think so, i dont even see that mu negative for rufus…
and i dont think he beats honda that easy, u need kd vs honda wich is pretty hard imo.
Why do you think rufus wins?? Guile has COMPLETE air control, hes got better air to air’s than rufus, incredibly solid aa’s, an air throw, and flashkick. Rufus also gets pummeled on the ground, st.fr, st.rh, fwd.fr and cr.mk are all big problems for rufus. Its not impossible but on paper i really dont see how it isnt atleast a bit negative for rufus, the only thing he has is a solid chance for a comeback after a knockdown, but even then if you dont do amazingly off a single knockdown you’re gonna be in dire straights very soon.
I used to think the honda match was more even but honestly rufus just controls space better than honda. Knockdown really isnt that hard to score imo, honda is pretty free to dive kicks, just cross him over a few times and combo or bait an ex headbutt and there you go. Also when rufus has the lifelead he can turtle honda out surprisingly well, especially if he has meter. Just poke and aa him to death. Biggest problems for rufus are nj.fr, which kinda bodies rufus’s air game and lp/ex headbutt, which prevents any forward divekicks or jumps from rufus. Rufus just has a good answer for all of hondas tools.
well, almost all cast have complete air control vs rufus thats nothing new…he cant use normals as AA at all since u can delay dive kick in some situations, ofc rufus lose in ground is hard to get in, but since rufus have worst normals in game that happen vs all cast too…
the thing is get guile into corner, and thats not even hard since all guiles walk into corner themself, hes pretty weak vs the dive pressure there since he cant jump back, everything he try to do there gonna be a risk for him.
im not saying this is a easy win, but not as hard as u say.
About honda i think u r wrong, njfr is not the worst problem there, i think hes jump mp is even more hard to handle for rufus, hes jump back is pretty good (he obviusly dont gonna use specials as aa in this mu) for control the distance, also his jump forward mp beat ur aa in some situations (if u have no bar for ex-snake) so basically he can freejump on u sometimes.
Btw how u can turtle honda here? even if he couldnt jump on u he dont really need, he gonna get close to u at end, and dont tell me u gonna use cr.fr for it.
bad match ups now are gonna be bad MUs in ultra , and the good MUs gonna get a bit harder since they will buff them, anyway diference is not gonna be that big, the good thing about rufus is he havent unwinnable match ups (3-7) so i think u cant get a pick for counterpick all of them, if u have problems for a specific match up then pick a counterpick for it.
