Rose USF4 change list discussion

lol super sf4 was her best version because her ultra 2 was a silly wakeup option. she is traditionally terrible on wakeup, with her backdash being good and no other real option. ex drill is not invin until active, ex soul throw obviously doesn’t work on grounded opponents, etc.

her strengths; matchups vs fireball heavy characters, her good footsie normals, good backdash
weaknesses: low damage, needing to use ex on ex drill for long range hits/confirms, wakeup, anti air is not terrific, weak fireball

Her needing to use ex to finish a tip range cr.mp is fine. Being required to use a bar to finish two of her bnb’s on most of the cast…especially when she doesnt have other options, shouldnt have taken 3~4 updates to fix.

Then topping it off with low damage and bad wake up things become harder then they need be. Her footies are okay but i feel like ppl over estimate them. So those strengths to
weaknesses become pretty unbalanced.

I’m really liking USFIV Rose. The overall Damage Buff on some Normals and Specials, the reduced (ok, only a coupe of frames at best, but still a buff) frames on various moves, plus Delayed Wake-up fit really well with her.

Kinda liking the idea of Using Double Ultra With her, it could lead to some interesting possibilities even with the 100% > 60% damage nerf.

Not really liking Red Focus though. I don’t thinks it may suit her well. She needs the EX Bars. Sure, she can hog free meter agains fireball characters, but, considering her Super is one of the most powerful assets she has, “wasting” 2 bars could be somewhat of a coin toss.

her cr.HP stops A LOT of characters jumpins. Actually a big portion of the cast. Rose also has a huge variety of Anti Airs for a lot of ranges:

  • cr.HP
  • Soul Piede
  • EX Soul Throw
  • Slide
  • Far st.HP
  • Far st.HK
  • U1
  • U2
    The less used: HP Reflect (a trade results in her being able to combo into soul throw) / Far st.MP

She might not have the 1 go for all button but at least she’s able to reach outstanding range with all of this

Hey guys, I’m in Japan right now and playing in the arcades almost every day. I have been playing rose since super, and I gotta say right now Rose feels pretty good.

Biggest changes for me was spark startup change and faster dash. Medium and hard sparks feel like you can actually use them more safely and play more of a long range footsie game. Faster dash makes the spark fadc into c.hp so much easier, I feel like I never drop it anymore. So with two meters, go for the cl.mk frametrap into c.mp xx spark FADC c.hp combos.

You can really see the damage boost too, bnbs actually hurt now.

I’m glad about the changes to EX spiral, it has never lost to a hit like it used to. I think making it throwable is totally fine.

Also, the Hugo matchup is pretty hilarious. Light sparks fat hitbox and slow speed is a little challenging to jump over for a huge character like him, so often they just get hit trying to jump over it. I don’t know if I’m playing against complete scrubs but I haven’t lost to a single hugo in here.

Your the first person I her mention anything about the buffed start up has effected her Zoning and FADC combos. That actually really good to hear those changes make aspects of her gameplay smoother.
If its possible can you see if:

you can link cr.lk to cr.hp
Cr.mk to cr.mp
Far.Hp, does it seem better in footsies?
Does her Soul Throw seem good in the Hugo match up?

How are Red Focus and UCD working for her? I did some number crunching about the UCD options and in some classic Rose combos, the damage reduction doesn’t seem to hurt her much.

I think i linked cr.mp to cr.mk on counterhit, not sure about the others, i will test them out as soon as I can.
Far.hp is okay-ish, but I think far hk and f.hk is still superior in terms of footies. The only thing I use it for still is a "fake fireball"
EX soul throw is really good in the grappler matchups. I usually try to save my meter and burn it just to get solid anti-airs. It also beats T-Hawks condor dive clean when timed correctly, so when they commit to a jump you pretty much got em. Normal soul throws feel the same for me. If it isn’t for a godlike jump-read or a combo finisher, stick with the EX one.

I have not been using red focus yet, still need some time getting used to it. I think Rose is a really meter-dependent character, and three meters is a lot. Drill knocks down so it obviously doesn’t work with it. Maybe bnb and cancel the c.mp into red focus to big damage u2 combo? I will try it out, definitely useful in a certain kill situation.

I use double ultra against grapplers and seems to work really good! Keep U1 for anti-air/whiff spd punish and keep U2 for… well, you always need U2 :wink:
If you use U2 with crossup setups, a lot of the damage comes from the c.hp xx drill combo anyways! Also the U1 against grapplers is more of a creating-space-tool,
so I don’t mind the damage reduction too much.

Well, pretty much what i thought, thanks. I’ll wait for even more info. If i had to guess, about what you said about the damage reduction on Double Ultra, i’d guess now, cr.mp xx drill xx super > U2 should be preferred against cr.hp xx drill xx super > U2, since cr.mp got that 10 Damage Buff, while cr.hp is the same as before. That with cr.mp xx drill being the first 2 hits (so, no scaling and a +20 damage total), kinda covers for the reduction caused by Double Ultra and Combo Scaling.

hey man, can you test if ex spiral works after hp reflect mid-screen ? i’m not sure if the arcade revision got that corner buff we’ve seen in the latest location tests but if you can try, great.

Thanks Sh0guni, I was hoping for some secret buffs but everything sounds the same on that front. I think Rose best use of red focus would be a punish. So something like cr.mpxxRFAxxU1 or Cr.HpxxRFAxxU1, possibly with a SSpark added in but with Scaling and Rose’s Poor range on her FA I think these would be her best options. U2 might have some good combos… if you can get both orbs to connect before a RFA lvl.3 with a follow up combo.

EX spiral after HP reflect? Wow that would be a nice one-meter punish, will test it out today along with the other stuff.

Oh yeah I was playing against a lot against Ryokke (#5 Rolento) and Ikego (#3 Elena, best Elena in third strike) so here’s my thoughts on those matchups:

Rolento:

This matchup seems like it’s a little bit on Rolento’s favor. He has a full screen wall jump and a roll that shuts down Rose’s fireball game pretty hard. If it ain’t fullscreen, you shouldn’t throw any, or you will get punished. His footies are scary good and I feel like he forces Rose to play more aggressively. Corner is complete hell with pogo mixups, fast overheads and EX knives (+million on block).

He has slide to punish backdash (OS). His U2 is five frames startup so he can punish pretty much anything with it, even whiff punish if his reactions are good. (Ryokke whiff punished my slide with it. Yeah… Japan is hard lol.)

Best way to approach is slowly with solid footies. Try to catch him with c.mp option select into EX drill to start your offense. Roll may seem really cheap because it’s safe on block (I think), but it has no invul frames, so with good reactions you can c.mp ex drill it or even throw it. Think of it as a Balrog ex dash punch!

I still want to try if you can EX soul throw in between the pogo mixup (in corner he goes to cornerside with pogo and comes with j.hp to back front)
I like to play double ultra on this matchup, just so I can catch rolls and knife throws with U1.

Seems pretty bad for Rose, but not impossible at all. All in all a really fun matchup!

Hugo is gonna suck.

Liking that she’s actually going to be able to do big damage now. She’s starting to sound like a pretty complete character. Might have to pick her up if I get back into this.

After seeing all the other character changes, I’m relieved as heck with the changes, and am actually amazed they all stuck without too many baffling compensation nerfs. Glad I stuck with the character through the series.
