That’s what I thought. Since the recoil from the Blanka ball essentially pushes her a bit away from Blanka, it creates enough space between the two characters for the U1 to whiff mid-screen. It does work in the corner as you said, so it’s definitely position-based. I wonder in AE, if Rose has more options to punish a ball, outside of Super and U1 currently. Yeah, it’s not practical as it’s a waste of meter in my opinion. It sucks when you try to use U1, and an EX ball goes right through her :(.
you can punish ball w/ medium spiral and stand block now in AE (pretty certain don’t quote me though).
On a different note, Spirals to Ex Spiral baits are sooo awesome. I’ve been recently using it more and realized if you use it enough, you can use it cover your bad spirals. Of course you best be at most -2 after block. If you are -3, you better pray they try to punish with a slow move like cr. strong/forward/sweep. Very very good in a BO3 since that gives you time to train and reap rewards.
I haven’t looked into it but I think Blanka balls are easier to punish in AE since I think he lands closer, and the different versions have different landing ranges so some might be even easier to punish. Even a little bit closer might make EX spiral a viable punish on block.
FUCK I HATE THE STUPID SIM MATCHUP.
Rose vs. Dhalsim is frustrating to an extent, but once you get in, you need to stay in. You have to be aggressive against Dhalsim, because he has better zoning normals than Rose does. Both Ultras are good in this match-up. Personally, I like using U2 because it makes the Dhalsim player hesitant in using normals when it’s out, hence making it a bit easier to get in.
Can Rose focus through Dhalsim’s st. fierce and punish with U1?
I would test it but I don’t have access to my xbox right now.
Edit: Nope you can’t :\
I’m definitely liking U1 more and more in the Sim matchup. My friend plays Sim and he just destroys me all the time, so it’s definitely frustrating. And yeah, you need to get it on Sim. he has no wake up game until has super so you can just do meatie cl.forwards into combos, tick throws and frame traps all day until he has it. I’m not very good at using frame traps so I couldn’t tell you any good ones to use, and I would love to hear others. Usually when I’m in I mix it up with slides, cr.strongs, st.forward, and st.roundhouse. I think I’m going to start mixing in a little cr.forward to see if it gets me some counter hits against sims back cr.strong. Also some Sims like to push you out with st.shorts and you can blow those up with EX Spiral.
The reason I like U1 is if you slide under a Yoga snipe (jump fierce) it’s free ultra, and Sims normals are pretty slow, and they go far, so you’d be surprised at what you can catch sometimes. Plus you can U1 fireballs and flames that haven’t been spaced well or whiff.
cr.lk -> cr.hp into whatever.
st cl.mk then throw to condition Dhalsim to tech so when you go for st cl.mk again you can set up whatever counter hit trap you want.
I think the hardest part of the matchup is getting a good jump angle or focus through a limb. If your reactions are good enough you can sweep his fierce.

I like taking risks in this match up like a seriously random Spiral from full screen, hopefully tagging a limb, jabbing out of st. fierce range, and waiting for a teleport because ultra auto corrects
Does anyone know the Guile match up for Rose I’m having trouble with it and Ryu sometimes?
Guile is purely about the neutral game. If you can keep Guile out and absorb/reflect/focus backdash—>punish Guile’s sonic boom follow up pressure you win. Don’t be afraid to block. Most tend to forget that you don’t HAVE TO focus or absorb every boom. Remember not to let him gain too much of a lead. Either Ultra’s are good. Use Ultra 1 if you want to do meaty shit and bait out his flash kick and punish. Ultra 2 for the crossup setup. It’s pretty much guaranteed dmg after a backthrow/sweep dash. After you get in, just apply safe rose pressure with crossups and what have you.
Ryu matchup is definitely my forte. I can probably write a whole page on what rose can/can’t do. The real fight begins when you get within half screen.
Ranges go as followed from far to close:
‘Neutral’ range(little further than half screen apart?)
[]This is where you can react and absorb/reflect and STILL cr. fierce his jump in’s.
[]You can’t throw fireballs too loosely because his jump ins will punish.
[]Jumps ins by either are free cr. fierce or DP’s
‘Mid’ range(normals still don’t reach and throwing anything out leads to a punish)
[]This is where you can’t react and absorb/reflect. If you do, it’s probably a risky psychic reflect
[]Fireballs thrown here by ryu own you. All you can do is block or focus dash forward if you think you’re close enough to throw/jab him or dash back if its too far and he’ll recover.
[]This is outside his cr. forward and farther than your st. roundhouse
[]Expect jump in’s at this range.
[]Probably should back up to **neutral **or go forward to footsies. Don’t stand here too long. Ryu excels here.
[]If you are ballsy, a h. spiral will usually hit at the tip netting you +1 at this range. If you do whiff, throw out a ex. spiral if you see ryu throwing out any medium to heavy normals. The hard part usually ryu is doing something at this range whether it be normals or fireballs.
‘Footsies’ range(just barely outside his cr. forward)
[]No fireballs should be thrown by either at this range because any thrown **should be focus-dash punished
[]Even though this is your st. roundhouse range the button you should be pressing is st. forward
[]If you st. roundhouse and ryu cr. forward, both tend to whiff.
[]Towards the end of Mid and begining of Footsies is a range where your slide will hit at the later frames. At this range his fireballs get stuffed by your slide.
[]From far to close : Rose *st. forward *> Ryu cr. forward ; Ryu *cr. strong > Rose st. forward ; Rose st. roundhouse > Ryu cr. strong
[]Once you get past all those normals, you should be at the range where your cr. strong hits at the tip. Cr. strong >>> h.spiral for the frame trap.
Note: This would probably be a lot better if I had some way of showing you visually lol.
You can really just outlame Guile if you want. You kill him in the fireball war since LP sparks are also slow + you have reflects. You’ll gain meter much faster than him thanks to LP reflect. Don’t just reflect booms. Mix it up with sparks/Focus attacks/reflects/neutral jumping to throw off his boom timing and charge. Do not drill in this match unless you actually hitconfirm into it. Guile punishes blocked drills with a flash kick even if spaced to be safe. Just rely on your normals, reflect, and sparks. Notable normals are the usual:
-cr.MP
-Far s.MK
-Far s.FP
-s.MP
-cr.MK
-cr.HP (Most of Guile’s normals lose to her Anti Air)
Push him in the corner and abuse him with correct spacing (out of sweep distance.) keep it mid screen if you want and score a free crossup after a knockdown. (Guile’s wakeup game is ass.) No need to ever jump in this match unless you score a knockdown. Just stay on the ground, hold your ground, and force him to make mistakes (such as throwing out Booms for free meter or psychic punish.)
If you’re getting pressured, keep calm and just block and tech throws. Not much else to say on this part. Just wait for that opening to push him back with a punish and regain your ground. If you can keep Guile out, this match is fairly safe for Rose.
I personally like U2 (keeps him off you if they’re coming in, or just chip him out easy if it gets to that point.) Plus it also makes him not able to throw out Sonic booms recklessly until they’re out. Plus it’s also a nice way to push him in the corner, get out the corner.
I will also add that if you plan to use slide in this match-up, don’t use it too much. Guile can punish those as well. I’ve played Dieminion a couple of times, so I know the ins and outs of this match-up.
She should definitely learn the timing for the crossup w/ j. mk and non-crossup w/ j. lk after a techable knockdown if they quick getup. Both jump ins tend to stuff his flashkick if i remember correctly.
Since AE is coming out in two days, and every character has been changed, should I make the new match-up thread?
I would say so just to make it easier to know between super matchups and AE matchups.
Alright, I’ll go ahead and make the thread now.
Okay I know this might be weird, but I am a Cody player trying to learn how to play against Rose is there anyone on Xbox live that would like to help me out just message MrWigglysan. Thanks alot
