Rose Player Died

Respect where it’s due, I never knew the guy but it’s always sad to see a guy who shares a passion in something you do go.

RIP SK. Life is too short…

R.I.P. SK, my heart and prayers go out to your friends and family. Good people live forever in the hearts of those lucky enough to have known them.

I don’t know the guy personally. But, judging by the comments in this thread, he seem like the type of guy anyone would like to have a beer with, yet his life got taken from us way too soon.

R.I.P. Sk. You are in good hands now with the folks from up above.

May you rest in peace, SK.

I’ve never had the opportunity of knowing you, no, but gauging from what amount, however small, I’ve taken away, you were a gentle soul, as well as quite talented, if an entire army of folks here and your personal YouTube videos are any indicators — and they’re great ones.

I’d become largely indifferent to the SFIV series. Whenever your skills were/are brought up, it’s your high-quality Rose in S/SFIVAE that’s at the forefront of the majority of our minds. By that time (summer of '10), I’d pretty much lost all interest in the IV series, as previously mentioned, so I never really had the pleasure of watching your Rose in action during my period of interest —and while you were still among the living— though I have read your posts from time to time, with the addition of browsing through videos on your YouTube channel. You were a bright spot in an Internet community (though you were very much a part of the offline scene, too) that I’d felt had been ‘lacking something,’ to express in the politest manner possible. Self-righteousness, arrogance, criticalness verging on malevolence, etc. were, and still are (what’s up, front page/stream monsters?), rampant; however, they’re not Shoryuken-only, or even FGC-exclusive, traits. That’s just the nature of the beast called anonymity;the Internet will be the Internet.

At any rate, using this thread as a PSA wasn’t my intention. You were simply a breath of fresh air. Your death has been a sobering experience for many.

Fellas, we’ve proven that when the time calls for it, the boys can graduate to men, and we have ourselves and Joshua’s influence to thank for it.

To a fellow New Yorker, Rose fan and all-around shining example, I’d like to say, ‘Don’t fret.’

Our resurgence is only getting started.

I knew Josh personally from CTF. A very genuine and nice guy. He was very shy and reserved, but when you played him, he was anything but. We all have many stories to share of him. I remember Justin was in town at CTF one night in 2010. There was a small line to play him. I asked Josh if he played him yet. He was a bit star struck and reluctant as he had never ever played him before. He was about to step out of the arcade but I prodded him. He shyly went up, I gave Josh my turn in line and he played Justin very well. It came down to the last read if i remember.

In a tourney in the east village, I played Josh in a match and his batteries emptied on him. I was a bit distracted as he always carried this plastic grocery bag everywhere he went. It contained his Xbox wireless and literally 16 AA Energizer batteries. Anyway, I lost and I joked with him that he intentionally put in trick batteries to distract me.

I probably saw him every week at CTF more or less. CTF closed though and he recently started an internship so his future was looking up. However, he had not been able to go to TNL as much. I did happen to see him the Friday before Thanksgiving at TNL. I was at the station next to him with another friend playing UMVC3 and Josh sat next to me. He went 30-1 against a resident beginner Gief/Thawk player. Josh told me he wanted to go eat after that set, but a top level NYC player then showed up and he played that player very well. I played 2-3 games with Josh after that, Rose vs Rog. I did not do very well but, like always, he offered some pointers.

Good to have known you Josh in the time that we all had with you.

That’s terrible. Despite his young age, he was one of the most mature members of this community, always very polite and helpful. RIP.

I picked up Rose recently and he was one of the players I would look up to and watch his videos on how to improve. I lurked this forum for about 5-6 months and he was always helpful and never got angry or belittled anyone else. He always calmly gave tips and just seemed like a really nice guy.

This impacted me more than I thought, I have never met him or played him but I can’t help but feel saddened by this.

I’m a few years younger than him and this made me realise how short life is and it’s too harsh and unforgiving when something like this happens.

I’m happy to see SRK coming together to leave their condolences for him.

RIP Joshua, let the spirits guide you.

Everyone please show your love at the new page. It’s open to everyone.
It’d be very appreciated. https://www.facebook.com/pages/In-Loving-Memory-of-Joshua-Colon/228038160602398

He uploaded a video just 3days ago.

It was sad to hear about his passing but he in a better place…R.I.P. PEACE

sksksksksk2222 … i don’t play ssf4 like that, but i would always trek up to the libary to wath the stream to see if he got on. i didn’t know him personaly, but he pushed me professionaly(like how his crazy win streak that one time persuaded me to try rose in sfa3 ). you will be missed. R.I.P.

I never met him. but i watch him on stream. a solid rose player

WTF, he passes away shortly after one of his close friends in the same exact manner? Something’s up…

RIP

Such a shame… so tragic…

I never actually met, or even played against SK, but I watched his videos on youtube, and I watched his entire 40 streak on PJS, rooting for him the entire time. His contributions to the community leveled up my Rose so much.

I’ll never be able to activate U2 again without shedding a tear. Let the spirits guide you SK :frowning:

I dont mean to be disrespectful, but does anyone know how he passed? Someone this young, so tragic, was it an accident or something along those lines?
I feel for the family and I hope they are able to stay strong through this difficult time. This is so sad and I hope he is in a better place.

RIP Joshua

This is so sad. RIP SK.

News like this tell us how fragile we are, and how little time we have to enjoy our lifes.

I just heard. Man…

Prayers are with his family.

It hurts me to even think about the pain that his family is going through.

They have to explain what happened to him to his 13 y/o little brother, and that can take an emotional toll on someone that age.

:/. Damn. He was such a good guy too.

EDIT: — His death will not be in vain.
He has all taught us a valuable lesson. We should appreciate everyone in our community, because we can lose them in a sudden moment.

It is extremely… sad is not what I’m looking for… ---- It is a SHAME that one has to die before we show public appreciation for them.

  • This should show us we should respect and appreciate what we have. We should show appreciation instead of treating them as just another person that is in our community.

You know each and every one of us in this community has people who care for them. If any of us dies, someone will be affected.

Tamashii gamashi michibiku mamani. — Let the spirits guide you.
Heaven, try this on for size, because you have just have gotten a valuable addition which I can speak for all of earth that we wish we could have kept because he’s a valuable addition to our community/

R.I.P. My condolences to his family and friends.

I posted on Youtube, but I feel that I should pay my respects here too. RIP. He’s on my subscriptions list.

What really got me the day the news broke was that he was still uploading the day before (“Last activity: 1 Day Ago”). Maybe even hours before.
