Rose, GG's Thread!

…please don’t…

…man I can’t wait till DeeJay and Cody.

GGs to Saqs, got destroyed last night by an incredible pressure game. I’ve never played a Rose so heavily offense-oriented.

  • Good Games last night Krazy Bone. I need to work on my wakeup pressure in 4 some more. You have any advice you can give me based on the games we played?*

GG’s

As far as your wake up game, the best advice I can give you is the same one Saqs gave me a while back, “its better too just block sometimes.”

And something I noticed is that you are very defensive, and although that might not generally be a bad thing, you should really be more offensive, and like you said, work on your pressure game, as well as footsies. Rose can really pressure if you mix up those block strings right. Her slide is really good, learn to use it to your advantage, whether its to mix up after you knock down your opponent or for spacing.

I’ve got some alternative advice: Focus backdash.

Experiment.

GG’s krayzie_bone. We play very similarly, so playing you was very fun. Our reflect games were very fun, although I think you gotta get in the habit of baiting mine and ultra me on start up. You’ll get a fireball hit and a ultra. You let me reflect for free except for jumpin’s and slides.

Watch out for OST + OS Sweep. A deadly combo, makes rose HAVE to block, which I started getting you with at the end of our set. If you try and throw, I tech. If you back dash, I sweep. If you jump, my meaty c.lk lands and I can hit confirm a combo or go into throw mix up.

I gotta say. Sometimes its just best to block

Oh, and if you Focus attack back dash I believe you take both hits (from white damage).

I faced a guy today |-|av. If you need an able abel, play him, tell him Kail sent you. he taught me that I didn’t know how to block, which BMF_Krayzie_bone exploited by just killing me on frame traps. I was impressed with how frame perfect some of his traps were. Very nice.

Watch out for roses instant overhead. You probably could hit me on the way over as your hitstun is not that long, but you are ready to tech that throw, I could have exploited that in a big way.

Great corner pressure, however sometimes you should have thrown me towards a corner when I got out. I get very antsy in the corner and you exploited that big time.

Good shit man, keep it up!

No; Focus backdash is really safe against OS. It acts as if one is taking a hit which means the other player’s dominant input comes out; usually being c.lk/c.lp and is thus evaded. It’s definitely risky to try FABD safe jumps because all a person has to do is input a move that’ll hit you in your BD.

It works best against ground pressure.

*Thanks for the advice. I wasn’t really asking for advice on my wakeup (I usually block or backdash myself). I was referring to me applying pressure on my opponents wakeup. I stopped using slide as much seeing as I used to over use that move too much in my matches so with that it’s kicking a bad habit. I really liked your blockstrings and I should incorporate some different blockstrings into my game and just overall be more offensive. Maybe I need to lay off the third strike and start back up really practicing 4 for super.

As for the small advice I can give you is less backdashing on your wakeup. Also to try and mix up when you do at the start of the round. If you noticed during the middle towards the end of our set I was getting the early knockdown because you didn’t switch up your opening movements. That’s all about all I can say about your game besides maybe through in some more soul sparks at the end of your blockstring so people don’t focus your st. roundhouse or slide at the end of the majority of your blockstrings you used on me. *

Yeah, its a great idea to apply pressure. Her slide is a great way to apply wake up pressure because of the options you get from it. You can grab, lk, back dash, cross up, etc.

haha, thanks.

Its a great idea to learn her strings, you don’t really have an overhead with Rose, so applying pressure is crucial.

Oh, and if you are interested in applying pressure, you should watch Sanfords Rose videos. I picked up a lot from him, I love the way he uses her. As far as my wake up pressure goes, I have to admit, I stole some of those tricks from Saqs, but its all good. Were like a Rose family here, im sure Saqs don’t mind. lol

Cool man.

I feel awkward playing against another Rose. haha

I was going to tell you the same thing, we do play sort of the same. It was weird for me because I don’t usually mirror or play Rose myself.

Yeah man, good shit. I actually started to mimic you for a minute there and it really is a nice tool.

Thanks man, thats one of the most important aspects in Rose’s game, imo. You really have to work your ass off to punish.

I remember a couple of months ago, I was at my friday casuals and somebody pointed out how hard I worked to punish my opponent with block strings as opposed to the balrog I was playing who just punched, blocked, punched, blocked, etc.

I don’t know why, but I was messing up so much. I think its because I really don’t play other Rose players. Dark_General and you are probably the only two I have played in months, and I just played you guys in a period of two days.

It was fun playing you guys, and a great way to experience other Rose players other than myself. Hope we can do this again. Good Games to both of you.

*Yeah I’ve been really getting into 3rd strike recently (I main Elena) and focusing on that much more than 4, I liked the 3 series since 2nd Impact and just recently been really trying to “level up” in 3s. I usually find myself getting on 4 when one of my friends want to play me and I go on “auto pilot” mode.

I watched a few of sanfords Rose vid’s and I use some similar stuff (cr. jab x 2, st. short frame trap). When I usually watch fellow rose player vids it’s for the matchup stuff. Though it doesn’t hurt to Xcopy a setup or two (I copied your cr jab, cr. short, cr. strong xx soul spark fadc on block mixup from the first time we played). We definitely need to play some more though, those were some interesting games we played. Really close towards the end. *

I’d actually love to get in on some of this. I started playing SFIV about six weeks ago, and I roll with a crew of some pretty experienced cats, and I’m not really sure of what I’m doing. I get all the moves, quite a few of the combos, etc, and I’ve even read up on what you guys gotta to say about strategy, but I’d love to get a chance at some constructive criticism.

Very ggs to Daftjah5555 most of our matches were close but you pretty much won all of them

Anybody wanna have some rose mirrors? My Rose mirror game is horrible! Need all the help I can get.

Good games Saqs, you’re just keep getting better and better. I thought I had that Rose match up down pack, guess not. Also what was that reset you hit me with after that focus?

I’m always down for Rose mirrors. They’re fun, although I always felt that Rose vs Rose can be very frustrating when someone knows the match-up well, can space drills well, and can hit very frame tight punishes.

So if anyone wants a match, you know where to find me.

Is that true? a focus attack takes away OS subdominancy?

ggs as always Luffy, i cant perform any mistake against you or i get wiped out  playing with you forces me to trying to reach higher play levels!

daftah, last time we played there was a lot of lag, if im not wrong… ill try again another day, Rose mirrors are always the most intense ones.

yup ggs nacor, u are doing a lot of unsafe spiral/slide !

thanks for the advice! you caught me a lot of times, i think i have built a bad habit because people who dont know the match up dont punish unsafe spirals, and that made me too much confident…

i have to work that spacing/wake up EX Spirals! :stuck_out_tongue:

ggs Daftah, nice Reflect wars!

a few ugly lag spikes messed things up a bit, but very enjoyable matches anyways.

I main fei long, but rose is my second. If anyone wants to spar some tonite let me know. XBL: Patient Shadow
