Rolento General Discussion

i knew capcom would nerf rolento on release once everyone Complained about EX roll into Ultra but the problem with capcom is everytime people Complain about ONE thing they go overboard and throw a bunch of random nerfs in.

Pretty much this. It’s also how most of the Vega/Guy players online play, too.

I keep seeing a lot of Codys recently and it’s a frustrating matchup. Frame traps everywhere and Rolento’s stupid gimp legs don’t reach to punish a lot of Criminal Uppers.

Anyone have tips on the Viper match up? I feel like this is the match up that’s giving me the most problems.

Stay salty, my friends. It’s alphabetized by tier though, so don’t get completely salty. Just pretty salty.

Yeah, maybe if he had a better wake up Rolento would be much higher.

That, his stuff is unsafe on block (except normal air raid, but it’s slow so you can just anti air it during startup) and it’s difficult to punish things with his gimpy cr.mk. As much as I complain though I’m gonna stick with the character, he’s fun and his alts are goofy. A little part of me is hoping for buffs though.

Well one thing going for Rolento is that a lot of his match ups are even and all of them a very winnable. He is similar to Ryu in that respect except for the defensive drawbacks he has.

Rolento is not there with dee jay. That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve seen in a while.

Having awful defense and no wake-up is a death sentence in this game. Especially when a collection of the strongest characters can alter their jumps to avoid being AA’ed (which, by the way, was weakened in the case of Rolento). Rolento needed better footsies in this game more than he did in SFxT.

I just don’t see how he can even approach Akuma, E. Ryu, Juri, Rufus, Yang, Yun, Seth, Cammy, Rose, Guile, Adon, Chun-Li, Viper, Ibuki, Bison, Poison, or Vega. Aside from maybe Rose, I think all of those are bad matchups. Heck, even characters like Zangief are bad. I considered him a really good matchup in SFxT, but now with Rolento’s AA trading Zangief can just keep jumping. Once he gets in its literally game over.

-Cr.mk sucks
-Focus forward sucks
-One of the slowest jumps
-No invincible reversal
-No wake-up
-Worse AA

Even little things like his delta escape not triggering if a diagonal is pushed is just stupid. Though I’m sticking with the character because I love his design.

I personally feel he is on the level as dj… I just don’t think a lot of people who fight have learn correctly how to deal with some of his stuff. A lot of rolento moves are gimmicks. His pokes are his true strength and even then, he can’t really convert much dmg off whiff punishes to me

Even his pokes need work. I was playing a really strong Seth the other day, he was getting herp derp focus lvl 1 crumples because my st. fp wasn’t hitting twice. Then he’d get in and I’d spend the rest of the match tech’ing and hoping. At least Dee-Jay has wake-up options, shitty as they may be.

I think ex patriot circle nerf was the nail. Before even if Rolento only had 1 bar you had to respect him out of fear of ex patriot circle into ultra. If Capcom gave Rolento just enough strike invincible frames at least he would perform better.

I can live with a stubby mk and his current anti airs if he had this or some variation of this back. I like Rolento but every time I use ex Mekong Delta Escape I feel sad on multiple levels.

I think Capcom was afraid that the ability to spend 1 bar as a reversal on wakeup to get 400+ in damage was too powerful (regardless of the fact that even with an FADC backdash it’s unsafe on block). I’d rather them nerf U1’s damage slightly for an EXPC with at least a few frames of strike invincibility.

I think his shortcomings are obvious at this point (lack of wakeup options, gimped st.MP makes it hard to antiair in some matchups, hard to convert big damage outside of his terrible cr.MK range), but damn some of you are the most pessimistic people I’ve seen. Stop complaining about his weaknesses and acting that he’s somehow worse than DeeJay or Dan (he’s not), and instead concentrate on what he actually does that makes him unique and relevant in a matchup.

Not going to lie though, if the opponent knows how to punish an EX Delta Escape in the corner, you’re pretty screwed in some matchups if they get you knocked down in the corner.

I finally decided to try him out in Online… I just find him slow compared to how he was in CvS2 & Alpha 3 kinda like Vega who I also find him slower.

His lack of wake-up option really hurt him. I can do very well in the match, I dominate the round with pressure but as soon I as I get knocked down, I make one wrong guess, every thing goes wrong and the opponent catch me up in Vitality lead.

With the amount of Bugs and complaints this game is getting its almost guaranteed
capcom will patch this game and hopefully buff/nerf some characters

One thing my Rolento is doing well is attrition. I can spend the majority of matches poking with jab and stinger to the point that opponents feel compelled to make a move. Even if I lose the lead Rolento still has better comeback potential than a few cast members with tools like stinger to U2 or bnb to U1/super. I like playing Rolento like this, with an occasional mix up and punishment combo at the ready.

yeah thats why i was using U2 exclusively.

i’d just annoy the other player into doing something i can hit with U2. i think its fairly legit unless you fight someone willing to deal with you being lame. but then i looked at 75% for W. it’s most likely rolento’s best bet

I’m a scrub so I just use Ultra on wakeup. I pick U2 unless someone has a special/normal that can lift them off the ground (Tatsu, Rose/Cody/Evil Ryu uniques etc.). I also tend to have Super available a fair amount because I’m bad at using meters so when people do obvious thing on my wakeup or they try to jump in I do that and it works a fair amount.

I respect this. Given his options, wake up Ultra is sometimes warranted.

Right now my picking strategy for ultra combo is based on the following criteria:

  1. If they rely on an attack U2 can punish.
  2. If slide juggles after ex patriot circle.
  3. If I feel the opponent is susceptible to focus attacks.

It’s loose reasoning but I like having either slide or U1 after Ex Patriot Circle to make it more worthwhile, so quite a few of my matches use W Ultra. Focus attack is free ultra but it’s not as worthwhile when you’re using double.

Rolento Crouch tech with lk goes under guile upside down kick…So that fucking sucks for guile, lol.
