Rog plinks

I Plink the cr mp with cr lk not cr lp. Lk does more stun, dmg and has more range. Pretty sure cr lk has the same range as cr mp.

Cr mp has got a bit more range than lk. You can plink it with whatever. I use jab because if you hit the plink too fast and get a whiffed lower priority input, jab has less start up and recovery than lk.

I started plinking the jab~c. mp about 6 months ago. I now use it exclusively with around 90% success rate. The only time I use c. lk is if I see my opponent not crouching in my block strings.

terrible terrible terrible terrible terrible advice

I plink my s. lp to sweep a lot…the only trouble i have is that when i try to plink cr. lp to cr. mp i usually get 2 cr. jabs instead of the cr. mp…i think i might be doing it too fast or something…but when i slow it down the the mp doesn’t combo…is it just that i need to practice it more or is there something im not doing? i get the input for plink each time i do it, its just it either doesnt come out, i get another jab, or the mp is blocked. Maybe once out of 15 tries ill get the mp to connect.

Yea I had the same problem. Slowing it down worked for me. Still isn’t at the rate I want, but it has improved a lot. I think I get it about 75% of the time now which is fine for training mode, but not good enough for matches.

Seems I replied back when this thread first got posted so I’ll give an up-to-date reply (Seeing as this thread is old) - I still don’t plink… I really should but as I use Keyboard it makes it more awkward and most attempts at plinking have failed.

Still, I don’t often stray from typical Jab BnBs during a match but after the BiWeekly Balrog video I was encouraged to hit the training room just to lol around for a while and practice.

It still takes some effort to consistantly get the CJab>CStrong or FSJ>CRH/FSRH but thats because I never really practiced them much - Even today once I got the rythm after repetition the success rate started to soar without plinking. Thats not to say I wouldn’t recommend plinking, especially if there is no reason why you shouldn’t.

Ok, so I never actually knew what plinking truly was. Sometimes when i play though people tell me “nice plink” or “I noticed that plink there” so maybe I do it on accident.

So is plinking when you tap the buttons an extra time to get 2 inputs? Like for example, to plink cr jabs into cr mp you’d press: jab, jab, jab-mp, mp (5 button presses total)? If not I’d appreciate a nice lil explanation or a direction to where it’s at.

I feel that I have plinked unintentionally though because like cr. jab xx cr. mp is normally pretty hard to do just by hit confirming but lately after stunning enemies, I did basic combos featuring jump ins to cr jab x 3, cr. mp, hb, and it has hit every time.

Similar concept yes - Basically when you want to plink a move (More inputs) you press the move you desire and another move with less priority which adds an extra input for the higher priority move - Common example, if you want a FSJab into Sweep you press FSJab>CRH & CMK.

At least thats my understanding of it anyways, I don’t use this method and am only going by word of mouth so if I’m incorrect no doubt someone will correct me.

Actually, plinking is done by hitting a button with less priority (than the desired button) one frame after the desired button (to be linked into). So, in jab jab strong, to plink the strong after the jab (a one framer), press strong, then jab exactly one frame after. The whole combo would be jab, jab, strong~jab. “~” means right after.

But strong~short also works because both jab and short have less priority than strong. Plinking is most of the time done with the button on the left of the desired button on the joystick, since that button always have less priority and it’s easier to do. (Imaging doing strong~jab and compare it to strong~short, you’ll get what I mean)
