Rog Offensive or Rog Defensive?

My style in a nutshell: jJDPABoVMnA"]YouTube - StreetFighter IV - Keyboard Fun [Balrog

I’d be lying if I said it was all out aggressive, it’s mostly a point of figuring out just what a player will do in most situations. Example, if I believe I’ve done enough to disuade Shoto’s from mashing out wakeup SRK’s and the likes, I’ll get frisky with overheads and meaties on their wakeup, even jumpins. If this fails and they score a wakeup Shoryu, then bring on the empty jumps or wakeup bait attempts for a free punish. On the flipside, like the movie shows, there are points where I’ve disuaded Shoryu’s and done so much garbage that I expect them to return to wakeup Shoryu’s out of desperation, hence you see me jump over waking up players at times purely expecting that very thing, and a lot of people eat the bait.

Problem I have is I’ve absolutely no concept of spacing or footsies… Well, I sometimes try footsies but I ironically find I’m so poor at it that it tends to lead me to being worse off for trying. I primarily focus on mindgames and shinanigans, wreaking unexpected havok with typical garbage that only mid-level Balrogs (like myself) could ever get away with.

Still learning and practicing for the day I actually get a console and SSF4 but a long way to go yet. At the end of the day, I didn’t boot up SF4 to have long matches, I’m all about getting in there and trying to win as fast as possible - This can lead to embarassing losses at times, though.

When my typical scrubby mindgames and nonsense fails to work on experienced players, thats when I hang back and pick at people for as much as possible and try to hold onto the lead from there. Certain characters (Zangief, Abel, Rufus, Dictator) so far are the only ones where I will automatically play passive/defensive and save the aggression for when I’m super confident or when I know the opponent isn’t very experienced.

Well, I’ll answer it two ways.

 1. Well, generally, I like offensive. Most people don’t expect it, so a crazy rushdown Rog starts flustering people, causing them to do stupid shit which I can read and punish.

 2. It does depend on who you play. For example, if I’m playing a Gief, of course I’m going to tone it down. What I do in that match-up is constant footsies. Walk back and forth, cr fierce his jumpins, cr roundhouse from a distance to poke. But to the average character, someone who doesn’t complete fuck me up like Ryu, Akuma, Gouken, Cody, Guy, Fei Long, just characters like them, I like to rush the shit out of em.

I try to play Defensive footsies.

Good style imo.

I use footsies to frighten my opponent and offset their game. But I prefer a no holds barred trap-the-ever-living-shit out of you with Rog’s monstrous offense. When it comes time to, you have to play defensive as well.

I find that myself and Ice0age r play Balrog very similar.
