Rochester, New York -- "That is a white ass menu..."

LISTEN MAN IN THE HEAT OF THE MOMENT ALL OF THAT STUFF IS SUPER HARD.

Actually I was blocking the vast majority of them and ended up getting wrecked when I tried to punish or when I (incorrectly) guessed that he’d go for a low. I probably should have backdashed; I know that christie has a fantastic backdash and a miserable sidestep.

GG’s guys, it was fun in spite of the whole ass connection part.

I think I might try learning Steve fox, as a pet project

You son of a bitch, Pablo.

How much money did Troll Steve slip into your cleavage?

Have some self-respect!

I dunno, if I weren’t still trying to get solid with my Christie/Lili team I’d probably think about picking up Steve too. Christie/Steve or Eddie/Steve sounds like it might be a fun team.

If Carc was a fightman game. . .Steve Fox would be a cloister full of pigs and barrels, both stuffed with dead meeple.

Yes time to grind up some combos. Ducking with a jab would be your safest bet, and just ducking one would reset things. I wouldn’t throw cuz you’re still standing and can get jabbed first. Try those later when in our non-laggert room, all welcome besides meeple-stuffed pigs.

Oh man, I just watched some matches with Zafina. Oh my goodness those stances. It looks like Zafina is even more complicated and ridiculous than the capos when it comes to being effective. I’m so tempted, and I know it’s such a terrible idea.

 If you got the time, go for it. You should tackle Lei while you’re at it.

And punishing blocked jab is a no-no. Not enough disadvantage there. Generally (and there are exceptions), you can only punish moves that are -10 or more since 10 frame jabs are most characters’ fastest moves. Jabs are usually +1 on block, so…yeah, LOL.

You know, just in general…we should all probably pick up Steve. He’s really REALLY gay. Steve Foxchester. I like the sound of that.

I say we all pick up Law.

Steve fox doesn’t have a palette swap, right? Like Sebastian/Lili, Eddie/Christie/Tiger, Kuma/Panda, Roger/Alex, Violet/Lee, and probably others that I’m forgetting?

I keep on thinking “man the cast of this game is huge” and then I remember that essentially a quarter of the characters are almost exactly like another quarter of the characters.

Dubba Law, Xiaoyu and her hot friend, Bob/Slim Bob (my tourney team)

LOOOOOL at all of you. Judging by my phone getting blown up by Steve Fox q’s and the last few posts it looks like I’m going to actually have to learn to block Steve Fox, so I don’t get blown up in the inevitable mirror match.

Greg, you can’t punish jabs really. Gary’s right on with crouch jab. Side step left or right works after blocking a jab as well.
Like Yannick said: all standing jabs put the attacker at SLIGHT ADVANTAGE ON BLOCK(+1), so you cannot punish them. If you get hit by a standing jab you are at MEGA DISADVANTAGE (-8).

My flow chart for figuring out how to get out of disadvantageous situations is thus:
THIS IS WITH YOU ON THE LEFT, THEM ON THE RIGHT

  1. BLOCK
    2)Q: Can I back dash?
2a) If so, back dash and whiff punish their next attack ( they lose advantage when they whiff )
3)Q: I can’t back dash, so can I side step to my right (their left or their 3)?
3a) If so, step right and punish their whiff. ( This should work against standing jabs or 1’s)
4)Q: If I can’t side step to my right, can I SSL?
4a) If so, do it …
5)Q: If not, can I duck it / high crush it?
5a) If so, do it and then maybe crouch jab or crouch kick. Alternatively, you could do a while rising punish.
5a) If you can crush it, great but that’s character specific and crush moves are usually slower than just crouching.
  2. If all else fails, block and wait for your opponent to do something else. Remember you don’t take chip damage from blocking in
Tekken (except under very special circumstances), so blocking is always good.

I have started a revolution

tru, i didn’t wear sleeves today either

Greg, nope Steve doesn’t have a color swap character. He has way to much swag for that. BTW Steve/Capos is a sick team. Hella combo damage and one of the best players in the country plays that team (ATL Anakin).

Okay, I tried out Zafina a bit tonight and she’s way too weird for me. She might be fun to mess around with later on but I don’t think there’s enough time in the day to try and learn both Christie AND Zafina from scratch.

I spent about an hour in practice mode with Gary tonight (thanks for that, btw; it was really helpful) and I noticed something kinda weird. It seemed like Gary, playing Slim Bob, was able to counter some of my mids, stuff like crouching 1 or 2, with what seemed like the same animation that counters a low. The one where you input df right as the blow hits, and your character just swipes the limb out of the way and the opponent trips to the ground.

Are mids parryable like the lows are? Is that some special characteristic of Slim Bob? Or am I just totally out of touch with what hits low and what hits mid?

Crouch punches are considered ‘special mids’ meaning they are mid attacks that can be blocked while crouching. You can see this in training mode b/c the block spark is green but it says middle. Special mids can be low parried.

 Yeah, special mids count as both mid and low, so they can be parried and crushed just like regular lows.

Is there gonna be a session tonight? I desire battle.
