Oh god, I remember playing that. I kinda’ felt obligated because I think it was either an Xmas or Birthday present (among other games, I didn’t get just that game thank god).

I watched a guy speedrun it awhile back, final boss is brutal.
I made it all the way to the final boss and lost and got the old Game Over screen and had to restart. That’s when I said fuck it. Looking back, I had no idea how I endured the bad-ness that long.
If it’s still on sale I recommend FTL. I picked it up 5 days ago and I already have 29 hours on it. But be warned it is a game that embodies Murphy’s Law.

It’s a great game honestly. Makes me so pissed at times though. I had an engineer ship all set and fine. I got a full set of drones and burst laser mk2 within the first 4 sectors, then I run into an event where I get boarded by 4 mantises. And since engineers suck at combat, even fighting in the med bay was certain death. It literally was an unwinnable situation because even if you jump the boarders will still be fighting you :bluu:
Sounds to me like you didn’t upgrade your medbay. The mantis might (I honestly haven’t checked) be able to outdamage a level one medbay, but I’m positive they can’t outdamage a level 2; even engi would be able to beat them through attrition there.
Upgrading your medbay is actually super important; it opens up a bunch of blue options for some events, is required to unlock a couple ships, and it also means that the healing rate will outpace asphyxiation (as opposed to keeping even with it), so you can vent your ship, cluster three dudes in the med bay, and watch all the boarders suffocate helplessly.

Usually I don’t care for medbays that much, since they cost more than a reactor upgrade. I usually like to kite around and asphyxiate them with level 2 doors unless I have enough manpower to just fight them (sadly I only had 2 engis and sold my anti-personnel drone for more weps). Usually it isn’t a problem because you run into ship to ship combat with at most a crew teleporter of 2, but in this case it was just a random event that screwed me over. Mantis just curbstomp hardcore whenever they outnumber anyone, which is why I love those ships with 4 man crew teleporters.
