Regardless of what anyone says, marvel is still guaranteed to be the number 2 game right after sf. I still play, and everyone who played be fore still plays. The status of one tournament in nyc doesnt mean jack to the game, especially since the house of chaos marvel stuff is still going stronger than before which is the ACTUAL reason nlbx marvel fell off so hard. I mean, I got a friend who going to rit in the fall that just beat flux in tournament twice last weekend with deadpool. People are still playing and improving and innovating
Rochester and buffalo are just follower college cities. Which means hype for every game goes down the toilet during summer break. And also means that, especially in Roch. Ppl will just flock too and play whatever is the hottest and most popular at the time, and the scene is so small that everything will look dead in comparison.
In the future, marvel will move down to third when the new smash game drops, but it will always have more players in general than anything thats not sf or smash. Which is extra true here since the main guy that was pushing everyone so ridiculously hard to play anime is gone now.

There are still people working on new stuff. FizzyKups just found out a way to cram 9 hard tags in a combo today. TODAY. Not only that, the first 8 hard tag combos was created TODAY too. 8 and 9 hard tag in a day. We’re starting to understand the intricate mechanism behind Marvel and it’s allowing us to do more and more.
I mean Dante just bumped up a tier because people finally figured out a good infinite for him. Thor’s been bumped up a tier too! Spencer has his own infinite! A year ago, if I said either Dante or Spencer could have infinite, some would get to work finding that out but most people would just laugh, say that everything worth discovering has already been discovered! Marvel is a really impressive game in that it constantly evolves and characters moves up and down tiers based on the new techs that different match-ups have. It’s a broken game and funny enough, in that form, people are making a new game out of it, something fun and exciting. That game is full of discovery and discovery excite people, so I doubt Marvel will die anytime soon. It’ll go on for another two years most likely

Yannick, it sounds like we’ve gotta push together to get some momentum here. You handle the people who like anime, AKA the people who are in Neverland, and I’ll handle the people who managed to grow up, but still be interested in playing good games.
on the note of shitty anime games, I’m still down for throwing down in some Melty Blood. Yannick convinced me last summer to jump in, and, as stupid as that game is (90 match-ups? what the hell?), it’s also kind of beautiful in that way. In my brief play against people in that, I’ve never approached any two people in the same way, simply because there’s just that much SHIT going on. And it’s the only game where I feel comfortable playing two characters, which gets it SOME credit.

And Melty Blood is super fun. Still waiting for Melty Blood HD, LOL. Melty Blood is one of my favorites for sure and the insane number of matchups is only ECLIPSED (get it?!) by the over-the-top zaniness. So fun.
