No. Just, no. If you want the multiple games with only one cord, go the RJ45 route. (One minor exception for the PS3+Xbox1 combo. That can be done.)
I KNOW THIS STICK (I think…kinda)! Weren’t you at aerial rave in June with the finished product? I distinctly remember a dual-modded Happ stick with an RJ-45, and was the guy playing on it in HDR when it started cutting out (due to a bad crimp in the RJ-45 side of the USB cable).
You’ve made me sooooooo tempted to build a Happ stick soon.
i’m using an imp board instead of a dpdt switch and i get how you route the usb data lines through the board/switch before it goes to the keystone but wouldnt that affect using the psx cable??
Yep, that was me. I’ve fixed that cable since then. If Springfield comes up to another Aerial Rave (I don’t see why we wouldn’t again), it should work much better now.
This thread answered any question I had left for me and my friend’s sticks. Thank you very much Acceptable Risk.
whats the part number from neutrik on the rj45 adapter you guys are using?
Can you use just about any RJ45 jack for mounting purposes? Would something like this be better than this? Or does it matter?
Same question in regards to actually making the cables with this vs this.
Also, will there be any noticeable performance difference between a cat5 and a cat5e?
That’s really a nice idea to use RJ45 on arcade sticks mods.
This really should be stickied, I think.
Just out of curiosity, would it be feasible to do this with a Wii connection, as in plugging the stick directly into the Wiimote?
If you hacked a classic controller and dual modded with the Cthulhu, yes.
Otherwise, just use a GC cable. Every fighting game on the Wii supports GC controllers.
Hoping this is the right place to put this. I have a MC Cthulhu waiting to be shipped and began to wonder. I only plan on getting a PS2 and GC connection out to the RJ45. Is there any way to use the unused holes to hook up a DC pcb into it? Has anyone done this? I really don’t want more than the USB wire hanging out of the case and this seems like the cleanest solution.
Samurai Shodown Anthology doesn’t support GC controllers.
I cant seem to find anywhere that has the black neutrik usb adapters in stock. All Ive seen are the nickel or whatever. And will it ABSOLUTELY not fit next to the Start Select buttons on the TE?
They will fit into a 24mm hole - the Start/Select buttons on the TE are 24mm.
Google: NAUSB
Edit: Misread what you asked. It’s possible to put it next to the Start/Select buttons on the TE - however you’d need to cut out a portion of the inner case to do so. Be easier to use one of the existing holes and move one of the buttons over instead.
Has no one tried this?
ordered mine from here…
Easy way to make these things without crimpers, or am I missing something?
Crimping without crimpers is a pain. especially since crimpers can be really cheap. This is the kind I use.
The little ‘3 step’ process they show looks like it uses a crimper.
Bookmark’d! Thanks for that.
Long as I don’t need to solder anything (I’m having the interior work outsourced to Bomberman when I get the money) making these cables should be relatively easy.
Oh, and can you use those kinds of cables with these kinds of jacks? Also, how hard are these to work with? It looks pretty difficult, given the type of shielding.
