RICO! El Fuerte Fundamentals (cleaned up 09/05/12)

Updated with pertinent AE stuff

Hope this is in the right spot. I have a two questions about RSF! Which is probably super obnoxious, but I’m going to ask anyway. When I try to do it I feel like I’m mashing end up doing HP xx run, splash grab. I get that I’m not stopping, but when I put input on it comes up LP, HP . So I did input stop but the game read HP.

Moral of my question why is the run, HP coming out n not stop?

Second question: Can any one break it down slow. Once again I feel like I’m just mashing and the vids of RSF are really fast. I get the wrist role, I get the who tapTAPTAP thing but in all reality its not sinking in.

I want to practice it slower so I can get it into muscle memory, how do I do that?

I noticed you don’t have much for the aerials in terms of use. Here’s what I’ve got.

Your best attacks for jump-ins are Salsa Chop (j.MP), Taco Knee (j.MK), Sopapilla Butt (j.HK), and whatever we named j.HP, but all have different uses.

The first three hit at different angles with Salsa Chop having the highest angle, and best reach, Taco Knee having the lowest angle and second best reach, and Sopapilla Butt having the middle with worst reach, but can crossup in the corner. Also, Sopapilla Butt can go into RSF, but an extremely deep Taco Knee can go into RSF as well. These are best used for offensive purposes.

Your j.LK and j.LP attacks are used for defensive purposes. You should use j.LP when someone is right above you and it may stuff some aerials as well. j.LK is for face-to-face in the aerial. Use it with right spacing and you can stop air grabbers, namely Guile.

Good info, but you forgot one thing…Salsa chop also leads into RSF, and it doesn’t have to be nearly as deep.

All jumping medium-heavy normals lead into RSF…some are more practical than others. I find Strong, and Fierce to be the easiest, with RH being very close behind them in terms of practicality.

Thanks for the input Kuma and Proto Added some frame data. Eventhubs claims cl lk and far lk has different frame data and damage. gonna confirm it, as I don’t buy it.

Added some Videos in the RSF section and for Tortilla. Thread cleaned up a bit, I’ll be adding parsed info on the RSF Post from the RSF Thread

Tips : If you catch Cammy doing a wakeup dp be prepared to RSF backwards. Cammy will land behind you 99% of the time. You can also punish both her blocked super and ultra with RSF as well. When practicing c.mk loops it’s not always a bad idea to get excessive. I find alot of times people jump out of the mix up and the most common messup for the is mk guac. ~execution error stylin~

I remember Spab uploaded a video of an OS to take care of Blanka’s corner escape.

Same as a lot of tickthrow/backdash punishing OS setups…C.short > C.Fierce to punish Blanka’s EX ball escape. I haven’t fought any real blanka players since AE dropped, so I am not sure if this is still worth learning. His C.RH has slow startup, so I doubt it’d be a good substitute for backdash punishing…Just thought it was worth bringing up again.

Also of note…This is incredibly random, but the LK corner reset can be crouched allowing for plinking, (I personally feel like it makes it easier, but this again might be a placebo affect.) That being said, Cr.LK reset doesn’t work on the twins…at least not nearly as fluidly as his St.LK does. (This info needs to be either ignored or reworded, sorry for the lack of organization.)

If your tortilla stuns an opponent in the corner, and they are “Lk reset” possible, you can still connect the reset without removing stun. Giving you more time to set up your prepared tool of punishment (RSF/Ultra…) That being said, the reset adds to damage scaling, so always take that in mind…they are stunned though, so use at your own discretion.

After baiting Blanka up-ball on wakeup best option is either Ultra 1/2 or c.mk loop x3-4. xx Super. Also the main part of my Fuerte vortex is that it works on mostly everyone and looks mostly the same until right before you wake up. It usually starts with tortilla and then I c.rh slide on landing into shower kick for corpse hop. After you corpse hop them you are able to do whichever mixup. This vortex is more fluid to me but by no means the best. I’ve noticed other fuertes just run stop corpse hop which is fine too. I think since it all looks the same though that it is easier to mixup the opponent. I’m at work so I can’t link videos of my vortex but i’m sure you can see me applying it on some of the matches I link on the vid thread.

Why can’t you just plink the standing version?

if u plink st. lk u will get grab. remember p-linking = priorty linking, lk>lp BUT lk+lp = grab and grab will come out over normals jus like focus and taunt if do the same strength while standing

Ah, of course. I suppose you could b-link it. :stuck_out_tongue:

or s-link, but i highly doubt that is tourney legal, not that i go to tourneys and i highly doubt that is worth it lol

After a tortilla, I set my vortex with a jump toward them, the same way you set up a safe tortilla. I haven’t been consistent with my safe tortillas for a while though…so I usually just corpse hop > mixup, but when I am Zen, the tortilla setup > forward jump allows for me to attempt a safe tortilla, or mix them up more.

I like how different fuerte is played among different users…That being said, I wasn’t able to get any matches with you at Ceo, but I heard sick things about your Elf…and witnessed your matches on the big screen, your vortex is definitely good.

Updated. Added links to first active frame of normals, Shower Kick, specials (except Qbomb 2-3-ex, target combo, wall jump airthrow/lp,mp,lk,mk,hk) and throws.

will begin messing with making GIFs

we need some more updates… ppl get in the lab and post some findings lol …
Gordita sobat as a reset after focus has a character specific safe jump and beats Ryus srk (except his ex version) … i will post more as i get the info all together

My bad. Once I get the specials videos up I’ll do so. I have some jumpins that were shared with me that I’ll also post up soon.

Updated. Added videos, safe jump setups

Com’n, man. I pretty much made these videos for this thread.
Profound sadness!!! :-(((((((((

My bad D:

I tested out a new combo thanks to the chain changes.

cr. LP > cr.LP > cr.lK > cr.MK (125 dmg, 210 stun)
It works on all but the following: Guile, Blanka, Dhalsim, Dee Jay, T. Hawk, Balrog, Gen, Rose, Adon, Guy, Seth, Juri, and Hakan.

The reason why it doesn’t work is because the cr.LK whiffs on them (hooray for short Mexicans!). Instead of this combo, just stick with the tried and true cr.LK x4. Word of warning, this combo has some very strict timings on certain characters. Akuma, Abel, Sakura, and Viper are a few that come to mind.
