Richmond Fighting Game Community: Next Tourny - CIVIL WAR

So I played some marvel against some londoners last night. They have ran bats every Thursday that are streamed on Justin tv.
After casuals last night, I’m pretty confident that if I play well, I stand a good chance of winning. They have almost no Phoenix players here, so I’m getting to 5 levels a majority of the time. Also, they still think running against her is a good strategy…
They have a couple of talented magnetos, but after attempting to block Moose… It’s pretty easy.
My main problem I think will be zero. I’m kinda bad at punishing the holes in zeros herp derp offense, since matt mostly lames and doesn’t do much unsafe shit. I get hit by crossup teleport plus Dante a lot.

Any tips?

I think the 3 best players here use dorm/sent/tron, haggar/task/doom, mag/zero/Dante.

mash crouch A? and if they arent as good as moose then there is no reason you cant win…oh and dont get drunk and try to win

Well I don’t wanna be mashy about it, besides most mashing loses t zero mashing. I’d love to see that fuckers hitbox data.

I’m talking about realistic counters to basic zero offense:

Crouch B into CC

Assist crossups with his teleports.

Whirlybird jump C of doom.

Genei jin bullshit.

Blasters (ESP lvl 3)

Now I’m aware that level 3 blasters are amazing… But all I can think of is to stay above the 45 degree angle he shoots it in the air.

That’s easy w/Phoenix… Not so easy w wesker… Impossible with tron.

Is there anything that charging blasters makes it harder to do? Tech throws? Push block? Call assists?

I’m asking as a player of hyper and st balrog and charging three kicks with my palm… So I know people can do a lot of things…

You should watch matts video it tells you how to counter zeros basic offense. Other than that i know that if they go into forward C you can push block and punish unless he has buster shot charged. Most Zero players either hold A or B when charging unless they are in a combo so teching isnt a problem a good zero wont have a problem with any of those things. Zero can be a bitch to fight so when you get a hit you should just kill him its probably worth using a meter most of the time.

Zero normals
Know what Zero’s crouch B range is. If it whiffs, it’s very easily punished.
Also if they do forward C, the red sword looking thing, push block and punish.
If they start teleporting after strings, try to notice where they are teleporting for patterns.
Most will teleport probably after the second hit of Stand C.

Jump C. I know you don’t want to use meter but Wesker counter is really good against it or back dash call Tron. Otherwise, just block it.
If he does ground C teleport in your face, prepare to block crossup.

Assist Gimmicks
If the rely on assist crossups, if they do a far teleport, you just have to block it.
If they do a close teleport, throw him out of it. It prevents Zero from getting momentum plus you don’t get hit by the assist.
I would say punish the assist but your team isn’t built for that.

Sougenmu
Genei Jin BS. Technically they should never activate unless they need to get people off you or it already comboed.
If they do it randomly and try to advance on you, Just Push-Block Everything. Don’t eat an unblockable or get counter-hit by the shadow.

Blasters
Blasters. I really can’t say much. It’s his best tool. It makes unsafe strings safe. If people randomly blaster in the air,
watch out for a lighting attack right after so don’t try to advance on him.
If he ever does a lighting attack and whiffs, punish the shit out of it. He can’t block until he hits the ground.

If a Zero is really good, they can still tech throw’s because they switch between holding A or C.
A bad Zero just holds A. If they just hold A, that means they can never teleport straight down (preventing high low mixups), do a short teleport on the ground or have a normal that comes
out in 4-5 frames. Exploit that

Also, if you can bait a push block, they will end up doing a crouch C randomly which is suicide.

If you really want to kill Zero fast, X-Factor Guard Cancel his Stand C or Stand B.
Otherwise, you just have to open him up the old fasioned way. Wesker air Zoning game gives Zero a problem because both Zero and Wesker are vying for the same 45 degree angle position but wesker movement is better.
Also, a good Zero can crouch B through Tron Assist but not many actually know that.

Hold up, isn’t t.C safe on block? It’s like +4 or something. If you’re Wesker, you could pushblock the s.C and then try to Rhino Charge the t.C ala whiff punish. In all honesty, you can probably build up most of that meter back with the following combo, so meter usage shouldn’t be too much of an issue. Wesker/Tron in general builds a lot of meter, so I personally think you can afford to be a little more liberal with the meter.

It’s safe if you block both hits of toward C. You should never let both hits connect though. You advance guard the first hit and let the second one whiff. I do think meter usage is important though to kill Zero.

Would it be possible to Alpha Counter with Tron? I feel like that would work and you could follow up with a TK drill for a combo.

Robin just hit zero he dies in one combo :). Or pick wolverine. Taskmaster or deadpool

Games @ Cary Street Cafe tonight!! Hope some of you can make it

I’ll mess with this. Lol @ at sf footsies in marvel. I’m pretty sure wesker low b or c outranges it.

Xfactor stand B or C huh? I didn’t know zeros tossed out S B given the godlike low B.

I was thinking just eyeing for and x factor guard cancel the low B. It’s negative on block so most zeros will chain into stand C and there hasn’t been enough time for a buster charge. Every move he can cancel into there has at least 10 frames startup…

I’ve tried xfactoring stand c before, but you have to do it on the 3rd hit, and you said most cancel the move on the 2nd hit.

My teams problem is that if I really want to kill a problem character (say a zero, wolverine, or magneto), I have to spend valuable resources like xfactor or multiple levels of meter. TAC ing into tron for her to start the DHC glitch is the best way to kill and not use many resources, but it requires a tac (inherently a risk), a ground bounce, and an open assist 1 (I.e can’t combo off tron)…

I’ll figure out something…

Not to mention work on anti Magnus stuff.

Just looking forward to civil war…its looking like we are gonna get a good turnout
If anyone is getting together the night before let me know

As far as civil war goes. I need some volunteers.

  1. Setup team. Guys there in the morning setting up stations, chairs and shit. Also help carry shit from my house.
  2. Registration team: my girlfriend is in charge of this, but if you know of volunteers, ill shoot her that. Not playing in the tourney helps.
  3. Judges: I need several people to report results to me or the other tourney operator. Preferably you are not in every tourney and/or don’t expect to go far in said tourneys.
  4. Directors: were running 5 tourneys, I can’t do them all. Plan on calling matches, running brackets, etc. Having a laptop may help.
  5. Equipment donations: if you live in Richmond and would like to donate equipment, if you could have it to my house or at strange matter by 11am at the latest, that would be great. Please label your shit with your name, a contact info, and what games it can play to current patch standards. For example, label if it has AE installed, bbcs characters, MK patches, or costumes if you have a lot. I recommend a sticky note with scotch tape. Only computer monitors and crts are ok. Don’t bring leggy shit please for the love of god. If you have or can only bring a system, please do. I have 5 tvs, plus strange matters 3, and 2 systems.

Please pm, email, or text me what you can do.

It will be a clusterfuck.

Only organization and resources will save the day!

if you plan on running this at strange matter you have lost your fucking mind.

I should be able to help run brackets and setup for the event as well as bring a setup with AE/MvC3/BB. I’ll probably be in only 1 game and 1 side game so I can run AE or whatever. I think what Moose said is true though about using the Comfort inn. SM is too small for how many people are said to come. We might want to go back to the hotel venue.

edit: Damn, dsinnie beat me to it.

I’ll be available in the morning to help out with the setup. Just let me know if you need anything else from me during the tourney.

ill be more than happy to help…I can bring a setup and I can make damn sure that people are where they need to be for matces, report results…you name it ill do it to help out…but lets get this thing started right…if the tournament starts at noon…LETS ALL FUCKING BE THERE ON TIME!..its people not being where they need to be that causes these things to be a cluster fuck…

Requesting AE starts first and Marvel later since I get off work at 12:30 and AE takes longer anyway.

I know SM isnt the hugest space, but we haven’t ever exactly optimized it either.

I Am usually more skeptic about number forecast, especially via RSVP s on Facebook.

That being said, I’m taking measures and steps to plan for 100 people.

Our past tourneys haven’t exactly been champions of organization, because they’ve had no need to be. This one needs to be.

I’ll probably divide mvc3 and sf4 in half. I.e.

Well do sf4 a pool
Mvc3 a pool
Sf4 b pool
Mvc3 b pool

I’ll take Collins suggestion and start AE promptly at 1pm or even earlier if we can hack it.

(although to get a top 8, it’s essentially 4 pools, but that’s semantics. No need for huge confusion.)

This allows schedule for people to see and take breaks as needed, not to mention allows us to start sooner.

excellent…i agree with you when you say this has to have a strong degree of organization…and everyone should do their parts to make sure that happens
