Dibs on ratking
As a smash guy and a huge TMNT fan, this is probably the best gaming announcement of the year for me. Dibs on Leo.
Ya mean, Triceratons. And yeah, I agree. The Triceratons and their story arc was one of my fave arcs in the original comic, as well as the 2003 toon. :wgrin:
If one appears, he’ll be my main. If not, Leatherhead (ideally, the SMART version, not the Southern-fried version! ) is next in line.
Sorry, just one last question re: Sakurai. Is it definitely known that all the changes from Melee to Brawl are specifically his decisions and his decisions alone? Or are we just blaming him generically for everything that people dislike about Brawl? (I keep forgetting about the lack of hitstun because in the small time I got to play it with my old Smash crew, I didn’t notice, but perhaps that’s because we’re not good enough. All I know is that I prefer the feel of Brawl to Melee by far).
re: TMNT
Wiimote only? FAIL.
I got Dibs on Blackster Stockman, then.
I think the answer is a safe “no” to your first q. He may have been the director, and the largest name associated with Brawl, but I seriously doubt that EVERY single decision about the game was something of his design. He was working with a team of his own people at Sora, as well as the peeps at GameArts. I’d like to think that not everyone of those were simply “yes men” and “code monkeys”, that didn’t have creative any ideas of their own.
That said, though, as the director, he obviously DID have the final say in what flew and what didn’t. So therefore, he at least has to shoulder some of the “blame”, if you really are that picky.
Wut?
For right now, I say, they can throw in the friggin’ BALANCE BOARD as an option to play the game with too, PROVIDED that Classic Controller and GC Controller are options too.
Also, finally, a pic:

…Once again, it looks like Leo and Raph are ready to bump over something…
Hah, just like in the movie!
And… no pupils?! ALL RIGHT, THOSE ARE GOOD SIGNS!
That same link has more pictures of the mag article in question posted. Go take a look…
Hmm…looks actually interesting, even if it is early.
Hopefully it doesn’t become wasted potential.
It’s not Wiimote only.
why did they put an “old school” all red headband picture if they don’t look like that in the game itself?
Does it look like it’s going to be a serious, competitively viable, tournament-worthy game? LOLNO
Does it look like it’s going to be a ton of fun? Hellll yeaaaaaaa!
When has making a kid’s property DARK AND EDGY ever worked out?
I dunno I was just hoping it’d be more a throwback to the old cartoon and comics than look like the new cartoon and movie
I hope it looks good in motion. Games like these usually look good in still shots, but animate funky and hit weird in the actual product
I think the new movie looked pretty good, when compared to the cartoons. I loved the original comic, but the OG cartoon just bugged the hell out of me. Especially that Baxter Stockman BS. I haven’t seen much of the new cartoon stuff. I think the game looks good though.
On a side note, I’m working on collecting these things:

That depends. While TMNT did go on to become a “kid’s property” of sorts through the Archie and 80s toon, its origins, as Eastman and Laird intended, are indeed in the “DARK AND EDGY” sect.
So, technically, this would do more to be a “return to form”, much like the CG film and the comics that are out now.
How much people will respond, we’ll just have to wait and see. But if the game is fun (which is most important), that will go a long way.
Agreed, most definitely.
For one, the Turtles have been in need of a truly awesome title for a while now. Even when Konami had the franchise again a few years back, it didn’t generate any of the gold we had back in the 80s and 90s. That needs to change. I fully understand that this game is not going to be a follow-up to Tourney Fighters-SNES as much as it’s not going to be a follow-up to Turtles in Time. I can deal with that. But I really want to see a great Turtles game again, the franchise deserves it, especially with the anniversary milestone coming up next year.
Secondly, it could be very interesting. “Turtles beating Mario at his own game?!”
But seriously, it would be very intriguing to see if the dudes at GameArts, plus those Team Ninja personalities, would have what it takes to possibly out-do Smash Bros. Brawl, fair and square. Maybe finally having decent competition in this genre, will give Nintendo the incentive to make sure that the gameplay for their own series is truly up to snuff. After all, if they actually do get showed up by UBISOFT of all people, that would definitely make them look bad. :wgrin:
There’s too many brawl-fags. Won’t happen. As much as I wish it would, it won’t. Even if it is a better all around game balance and control wise, look what happened to Alpha 3 Upper. Don’t fix whats broken :-p
More like fighting game players might play TMNT though.
looks better starting out than I had thought! Not to mention this is an early build…for an early build this looks pretty good and i’m sure it will probably get better as time progresses.
Turtle combat
I didn’t necessarily mean in the notion of “having a bigger following” or something like that. I know THAT much is fundamentally unsound.
What I meant was, could these guys have it in them to make a game that plays better, and just basically does more to improve on the “Smash” genre, than even the original game series did. Or if not that, certainly give a nice twist on a game style that could use more variety in it.
Variety is the spice of life. If SNK didn’t come around to serve as Capcom’s most viable challenger, we wouldn’t have gotten the likes of Fatal Fury, KOF and Samurai Shodown, among others, all games that did more to expand on that which SF2 began.
As long as this “Smash” style of game is going to stay, I’d at least like to see more done with it. Perhaps the Turtles could stand to lead the way…assuming this game delivers.
